I assume you got it from here.

Probably won't jump sunday - just chill at home, as I'll probably jump at Byron on Sat. I have 10 jump tix leftover from both a prior visit and the boogie, so just need to drive there and use them. If I didn't have those tix on me and knew you were going to be at Cloverdale, I'd go on up there and meet you - we could jump together. Let me know if you get up there again.

I know this is besides the point, but 8-10/day sounds really pushing it unless you have a dedicated packer - especially due to the low # of hours of daylight that time of year.
-
Depends on how much money you have...
-
Yes, wine tasting afterwards makes it a good excursion. I might even hang with you as well. You can brag afterwards that you jumped out of this ancient airplane (a 1959 C-182).
-
I don't think it was, but thanks for trying.
-
Yes. Jump it.

Ha ha! You have a Dolphin! ...why I don't want one.

You live in Wisconsin of all places...how expensive can it be?

I'm perfectly happy remaining an intermediate skier than switching over to boarding. Btw, does anyone here know a skydiver who works (or worked a couple of seasons ago) at Sugar Bowl? I was there a couple of years ago and was wearing my alti that I just bought. The lift operator noticed it and said he was a skydiver.

Only local ones - don't have lots of cash or vacation. American Boogie and Byron Boogie.

Dude, go on with your bad self.

I wonder how many unmodded Sabre1s are out there? I'm guessing that mine is not. My slider is probably right for my canopy. I will continue to respect the experience told me first hand by those such as Doug (formerly of Hollister and Santa Rosa) and Garreth at Byron who I know have several thousand Sabre1 jumps between them. The hard openings are no secret, but I will treat the paranoia that I'm hearing from those such as matt as those previous paranoid rantings I heard about my short riser cable....inconsequential compared to the first hand advice from my master rigger.

The Glidepath Nova was in production for a number of years, too, as was the Ford Pinto. What's your point? My point is that it has an established reputation amongst experienced skydivers as a good canopy. I will continue to believe the stories by those experienced skydivers that have put thousands of jumps on Sabre1's over a 240 jump, 1 year overly paranoid skydiver. Furthermore, since the canopy in question has been out of production for 4 years now, it will become less and less of an issue as the remaining canopies are "used up".

What can we do about Skyride?

sunman, Sorry, but this isn't a busybody created soap opera, but a legitimate complaint against business owners with really bad business ethics. I live on the west coast and am about as removed as anyone from the topic and I completely agree with the complaints against Skyride/ASC. Furthermore, we really do have a hard time trying to figure out what you are saying when you use poor grammar. Please make a better effort if you want us to actually understand what you are writing. -
Thank you for sharing. I'm still not impressed. It wasn't in production for 12 years for nothing.

I own a condo in Racquet Club circle and have lived there for arond 2.5 years now - lived in Rincon Valley in SR for two years before that. I bought the condo around the same time as I started AFF, which was rather unfortunate $$$-wise for my skydiving of course (hence my low jump #'s). If I don't feel like driving or have only a few hours, I'll go to Cloverdale now that SR is closed. Otherwise, I will drive to Byron or Davis usually (maybe even Lodi - only been there once so far). I plan to be in Byron either Saturday from around 11-3 or Sunday from around 1-sunset. Gary, I'll eventually visit Hollister and try to take advantage of one of those 18K King Air loads, but it is so far away from me. Has a recent A-License guy named Dan Bruckner been there? He has curly blond hair and looks lilke the actor from The Greatest American Hero show.

AFAIK, PD is the market (share) leader, and have been for sometime. It is not unreasonable why PD fans have the opinions that they have. You haven't proved your case yet.

Cost: Someone is only able/willing to spend $xxx on a new (new to them or used) rig. Options are limited. Recommendations: Their local skydiving community is small and distant and they trust where they jump. The instructors are experienced and qualified and their advice is trustworthy. Availability: They have certain items in stock. It is harder to trust equipment from a distance and w/o looking at it. Canopy Type: Preference for a 9 vs a 7 Cell. Manufactuer: ABC Co. has a good reputation. Bottom line, the Sabre wouldn't have endured so long if it was such a risky item.

Does that mean you will be in the North Bay area soon? kcskydiver, I'd like to know that as well. I heard that they moved to Mizzou to be near his daughter and future son-in-law among other COL reasons, but that's about it.

Yup, this is the word.

In college, some 18 yr old girl I was tutoring in algebra thought I was old at 23. -
Actually, I DON'T believe the WL difference is .2. dekac99 stated that the WL with a Sabre 190 was 1.0. Well, if they jumped a 170, their out-the-door weight would still be about the same (ok, maybe subtract a few ounces for the smaller canopy), but the WL for the 170 should be 190/170 or 1.1176, which is much closer to 1.1 than 1.2.

Disclaimer: I'm a "100 jump wonder", so what do I know. I think this thread needs some context. I think matt is unduly paranoid, but at the same time makes great points. The Sabre revolutionized the sport parachuting industry so to speak when it came out. It is a fine canopy that flies great, but as any canopy, it isn't perfect. PD redesigned it for a reason, and as of 2001, you can no longer buy a first generation Sabre new (well, I think someone said that PD keeps the pattern if you really wanted one, but that's another topic). People buy canopies for the following reasons among others: familiarity, $$$, availability, recommendations, canopy type and others. Since the Sabre was so popular for so long, there are still plenty out there that are air worthy and available in the used market. So, depending on an individual's situation, it isn't unreasonable to jump a Sabre. Granted, there are better choices out there, but because of the previously mentioned reasons, it might be appropriate for an individual. It was probably the best choice for me at the time, but in hindsight I may have chosen something differently (but see the reasons I mentioned). To make some blanket statement like mattjw916 is making, is well, just naive.

OMG I hope you don't mean this one. That is Libby and she isn't an old lady White hair doesn't make us old! Sorry - I was being somewhat facetious. Plus, the term "old lady/man/etc." is all relative.
