Another response could be that individual actions *can* and *have* affected other people. There are other people in the sky with you who could be hurt by your actions. I know it's rare, but collisions do happen. I can't help but think of Danny Page and Bob Holler. Danny wasn't by any means an idiot low time jumper, but he still did something stupid under a canopy and took out someone else in the process. I absolutely think everyone should take resposibililty for their actions and try to talk to ANYONE else that they see doing something dangerous. If you are not comfortable talking to the individual yourself, get the S&TA or DZO or another respected jumper at the DZ involved. Maybe Bolas will be on your team. But that would mean you'd probably have to let him touch you. I have a team, even had a dream about it last night, how we were kicking so much ass in the GSL meet. Except the meet was in water and was more like a synchronized swimming event with sequined suits and everything. Something about the responses to the end of this report...1-800-SKYDIVE is a legitimate number around the nation but now in the Atlanta area, it too is directed to Skyride. Your websites and various phone numbers are INTENTIONALLY DECEPTIVE. Not cool. I also have never been to ANY other dropzone where they ask you for payment over the phone, before you ever show up to the DZ. I've jumped at over 17 dropzones, including 3 different ones for tandems before going through AFF. Are you claiming that websites like "SkydiveNashville" and numerous others (for a dropzone that is located near Atlanta), use an 800 number and don't have directions or an address for the dropzone on the website are not intentionally deceptive? Is intentionally deceiving the customer a good way to do business? Every reference on that website indicates the DZ it is advertising is located in TN. How about advertising $129 tandem jumps and then tacking on a $50 non-refunded deposit on top of that? And I haven't even mentioned stealing a dead DZO's phone number and taking the money people were calling in to donate to his widow and child. Defend them all you want. Yes, I'm special...just like everyone else. They are basic MINIMUMS for a reason. Part of the problem, IMO, is more experienced jumpers pushing newer jumpers beyond their abilities/limits. I know you have to push your abilities to get better and it is good to try new things but there is a very fine line of pushing your abilities in this sport because mistakes can kill. I think there is a lot of peer pressure to make jumps people are not ready for. Not saying that was the case in this incident, but I do see it happen a lot, whether it be freeflying, downsizing, bigger way jumps, wingsuits, CRW, whatever. Hey everyone, If you still want to do something about Skyride I found something today. I use this service called Kudzu.com to find businesses in Atlanta. It's a pretty good service, I like it a lot. I noticed this morning that there was an article for learning more about skydiving in the middle of the page. So I checked it out and they have some good information. But then, they have a link to skydiving businesses in the ATL area, which are "reviewed" by the site users. Or you could just search by keyword "skydive". Most of these appear to be Skyride sites. So it might deter a few people if some of us logged on and gave reviews. Just a thought. I've done a few already. Here's the link.
