OMG, I love it! Thanks for sharing this. I just ordered myself a copy from Amazon. -
What makes a dropzone a good dropzone?
lauraliscious replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
+1 It's the people. You could have the fastest, biggest, & quickest plane, best weather, great landing area, great amenities, but it all means nothing if you don't have great people to share the sky with. -
We watched the opening scene of the show last night, I was really impressed by the dive plan, it's one of my favorites! Round, back flip, round, 360, round.

RW Bigway Skills Camp:Americus,Ga.:May 1st-3rd
lauraliscious replied to CSpenceFLY's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Sounds like a good starting point to me! So will there be any "camp" stuff going on Friday during the day? Would it benefit me to drive the whole 7 hours Thursday night after work or should I just plan to be there bright & early Saturday morning?? So is there any word on who will be organizing the jumps yet?? Curious minds want to know! -
I think Gary said it very well, and I agree with what he said 100%. Maybe that's because he was my instructor for my coach rating. I got my coach rating when i felt ready for it, after 2 of my skydiving mentors died at Dublin. I felt that both of them were not only great skydivers, they were fantastic instructors, paying it forward. I felt like the coach rating is the 1st step to becoming a decent instructor, and I wanted to pay it forward. I also wanted to work on my teaching skills and further my own knowledge. I wanted to be able to jump with students when the opportunity arose. That being said, there is a marked difference between taking a student up on a fun jump when they are just off AFF and going on a "working dive" - where you do an involved brief/debrief, and sign off stuff on their A check card. To me, a working coach jump doesn't just involve the jump, it involves going over the SIM, doing the Category test, and a variety of other factors. If I'm going to spend that much time and energy with a student, and it helps them progress that much more quickly to getting their license then I do like to have my slot covered. I don't charge or expect anything extra besides the slot. I usually wear my video camera on these jumps too, to help with the debrief, and will give them a copy of the video or post it on YouTube. When I was a student I had 2 vastly different experiences with the coach program. One guy, he was a 100 jump wonder coach and I never saw him in freefall due fall rate issues. No briefing or debriefing. I didn't learn anything, and I felt ripped off by paying the DZ $60 or whatever it was for a "coach jump". Another girl, she took the time to go over the SIM with me before the jump, did a very nice brief/debrief, and told me to just go put her on the load and cover her slot, and if I felt like she did a good job I could give her extra but she usually got $10 from the DZ if I went through them. I had no problem paying her slot, and I think I even gave her $20 because i was so happy with her teaching. So I voted, it depends on the situation. I will jump with students for free. But if they want me to sign off a bunch of stuff I like to have my slot covered. Don, are you a coach? How do you feel about it? Awwww, I'm so sorry Don & Jean. I was talking to Jean about her at Fitzgerald and it got me crying! We've only had Delilah 8 months and I love her so much I can't imagine losing her. Hope it gets less painful with time. Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091

Tell me about it. Most of your stuff in the next few weeks is my stuff too. But somehow I can never turn down a Roaming DZ boogie, especially when there are big way skillz to be learned! Damnit Spence, I just can't say no to you! Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091

I'm in. -
Glad to hear she's feeling better! Maybe she was just tired from the busy weekend? Delilah slept most of the day Monday too, she is always lethargic after spending so much time playing with her friends. Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091

Delilah eats grass all the time, but she has never been sick from it, AFAIK. She seems to enjoy it, feeling well or not. Maybe she just spits it out though. Hope Suki gets to feeling better! Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091

Yeah, I heard. I heard April was looking for me all night too to show me that she was wearing her shirt. I saw it on Sunday though. Way to represent!!!

I'm jealous. Wish we could have been on the load with you. I WAS on that load with her - she was so excited, it made me really happy too!!!! What a super fun weekend. I finally have some numbers! :8:0 2 AWESOME balloon jumps!!! I think I did 6 regular old belly jumps, 5 ways and smaller. Did a really fun hog flop with BillyVance and Thanatos340. And some of them skipped the party and went to bed early so they could get up at 6:30am and make a balloon jump on both Saturday AND Sunday morning. Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091

I'm planning on being there too! I have that Friday off work, and I think this would be a good weekend to use my t-shirt that I won at Skyfest last year. -
You do know that there's a Six Flags in Atlanta right? OMG, Six Flags over Georgia does not even BEGIN to compare to Cedar Point. Trust me, I've lived in both Ohio and Georgia and have been to both. Maybe we can take a roaming DZ trip to Delmarva someday too. I'd like to jump in as many states as possible, and haven't jumped up north at all yet! Sounds like you have a great program too. -
