  1. Yep, a few new members (including me)... not all have team jumpsuits and rigs yet... the judges hate the jumpsuits, but they make nicer pictures, IMO. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  2. Since its time to come out of hibernation, I figured I would go ahead and put some new pictures up on my site... here... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  3. Both of mine look fine... the rigger that did the mod did have to re-close them a few time to get them to look right, ususally involving changing the length of the closing loop... one the right length was figured out, they looked and continue to look fine. 5. Seeing as it will be the oil companies that will be spending the bulk of money... with mostly US firms, who employ mostly US citizens... the economic impact goes beyond just the oil... on top of that, those companies will have to pay the government for the access... With oil prices where they are now, and the likelihood of them staying well above $30, you will also see companies moving resources in to shale oil exploration and extraction... again this is the oil companies' money and they are likely to spend it on producing oil, not looking at alternative sources... that's what they do. As far as the government's (our) money and policy goes, it should be put toward researching alternatives, clean renewable energy sources, and higher efficiency vehicles... I don't think allowing drilling in ANWR and alternate sources are mutually exclusive. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  6. I agree, [sarcasim]there are so many important issues to be discussed and acted on by Congress, but steroids in baseball, and Scotish Tartan day are by far the most pressing[/sarcasim]. I can think of soooo many other things our government needs to focus on, its beyond my why this is even on the radar screen... I'm sorry for the guy whos 16 year old committed suicide after using steroids, but who was in a better position to prevent it, MLB or the parent? 7. Wouldn't that then be grounds for convict #1 to appeal, at least his sentance? And if the trials are running concurrently, and the witness is recalled in one or both after testifying in the other, doesn't he run the risk of a purgery charge? 8. In my scenario, the witness was the lead investigator, and the line of questioning was to his investigation, and his testimony in the parallel case... not anyone elses... with the intent of showing a jury that the prosecution was putting forward a different case in another trial for the same crime... that does not seem to be hearsay to me. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  9. Even if it is by the same witness, related to the same investigation? That seems backwards. I could see where someone else's testimony would be hearsay, but not the same witness It seems ones own testimony should be able to be introduced, or be a legitimate line of questioning. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  10. But it would also be a matter of public record, in the court transcript of the other trial... he (the lead investigator) would be testifying, in court, to his own actions... How about, what other theroy of the fatal blow was investigated? Why was it discounted? If the investigator answers one way in one trial, and another way in another trial, he will have purgered himself in at least one of them... it does not seem that those would be hearsay becasue they go to the conduct of the investigation, again his own actions and thinking. 11. So you couldn't ask say the lead investigator (who is probably going to be called in both trials) "was there someone else involved in this event? Were they also tried for this crime? What was the outcome of that trial? Did you testify at that trial? What did you testify to as to who struck the fatal blow in that trial? It does not seem that would be hearsay. 12. Can defense #1 not introduce the fact of defendent #2's (or visa versa) trial? It would seem that even a public defender could raise enough doubt as to who struck the fatal blow that neither would get the DP. 13. I once fried a CCD in a video camera while tracking an AC on jumprun with a 2x zoom lense on... I tracked the AC right into the sun, and it was freid in less than a second. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  14. $40 for a UV filter? That seems a bit pricey. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

  16. Well, in Houston, 6% seems to be the norm. And that assumes you use an agent at all... in some markets you can get the buyer to pay those too... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  17. Oil just needs to stay at $30/barrel or above for shale extaction to be profitable... which it likely will... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  18. That is overstated... if we are talking about his house @ $435K RE commission and title insurance is only about $27K... if we are talking about you hypothetical house it is only about $19K J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  19. You left out the tax benefit... you get to deduct the interest portion of your payment from your federal taxes, as well as the property taxes... Your opportunity cost of money assumes that the money is invested, not spent... which is not a given. And your selling price is not out of the question... it all depends on the market... 21. Make sure you take a look at the Texas Veterans Land Board Loan programs... if you qualify it can save some $$$. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  22. I didn't see anything about retaining business, only that they would no be restricted from pursuing business with those agencies... it may not mean those agencies can do business with them. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  23. I've only seen two good reasons for mixing rounds... 1. With an entry shotgun, the first round or two are "dust shot" to remove a lock or hinge(s), the rest are your combat load (#4 Buck is my pref). 2. With a rifle or SMG, particularly one without a last round hold open (HK), the second to last round (rifle) or last three (SMG) is/are a tracer(s) so you know when you're about empty. I've never really seen a reason to mix in a handgun. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  24. Check to see if your state has any vetran's programs that will lower the interest rate... TX has one that can save up to a full point off market rates. With the VA loan, the first $36K of the loan is secured by the VA, which means that if you don't need more than that to avoid PMI you are covered (which is usually up to $180K purchase price) When you are shopping loans, make sure you get all the fees disclosed from the get go (there is a "funding fee" for VA loans) I would not recommend touching your 401k for a DP. Look at the payments with or without a DP, and look at what else you can do with the money... pay bills, furniture, etc... T&I Escrow is also something to consider.
