  1. Whether or not he outed Plame, he did not commit "Treason" by the legal definition. I've heard the rumors about him being the source, but I have my doubts... if he were the one, I think it would have gotten out before the election... a Sr. Whitehouse advisor being outed as the guy who criminally leaked a CIA agent's name would have been sure to have some negative effects on the President's campaign... I doubt Time or NYT would have passed on the opportunity to launch the torpedo. Edit to add... If he did leak it, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Patriot Act

Therein lies the problem... many schools do not see the military as on par with other employers... they see the military as a choice for dead-enders or a distraction from college... remember, many schools are "graded" on how many of their grads go on to college... My experience is that rarely do school GC's actually have the student's interests/situation in mind. The release of information is not the big deal, that is relatively easy to overcome... campus access is the bigger challenge. I have seen some schools exclude the military from career fairs. Patriot Act

That has been a string attached to federal education funds since long before the PA. Deny access, no funds.... although that stick was rarely used, at least while I was recruiting... it was easier to create a list through other means than to actually get funding cut off... 4. That would be a neat factoid, if it were true... but it is not. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  5. In that case, what would be the valid points in favor of closing the boarders altogether? I personally see no reason to close the boarders to legal immigration... we are a nation of immigrants, ya know, the melting pot (not a stew)... Illegal immigration, on the other had, is a threat to our national security, and a drain on our economy... and should be stopped by all means necessary up to and including putting the military on the border. 7. Blah, blah, blah... the only thing you can say across the board for the general ed. requirement for any undergrad degree, and therefor and grad degree is that the holder has been exposed to the information, not that they know it, unless their degree is in that specific material... So to infer that highly educated liberals have a better grasp of history than anyone else is quite a leap. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  8. Well, that's not always true... there are several 5-year programs that skip the BS (no pun intended)... Architecture is a prime example... and you left out all the folks that get BA's too... Besides, like you mentioned, how many remember anything after the last final... I come across lots of folks that are educated beyond there intelligence. 9. I can agree with that... Having a graduate degree in say engineering does not guarantee any knowledge of history or any other topic other than engineering (and given some of the engineers that I have worked with, it is not a guarantee of that either) J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  10. I understand the implications of the ruling, and the underlying issue... Still, as a mater of practicality local governments are not going to get involved until 1) they are on board with the project, and 2) an offer to buy the property in question has been made by the person/group desiring the property and rejected by the person/group that owns the property... why get involved in an ED issue if the parties can reach terms... Prior to the ruling, depending on what state you live in, the taking of private property need to meet a pretty high standard, of public use that could not be accomodated on other available propery... now the SC has said it only needs to meet a standard of public good for the government to be OK with it (again depending on your state)... Yes, its about money... developers want the property for a lower cost because it makes the projects more fiscally viable... if the property costs too much the project does not get done... local politicians want to see the project done so they can have more money to waste, so they will try to take it, and pay "just compensation" as the 5th calls for which is not necessarily the same as market value, and in no way accounts for sentimental value... If your state allows this, don't bitch about it here, take action to change your state's laws on the issue... and / or tell your Congressman and Senators to do something about it at the national level... I'm sure there is plenty of public support out there, and in the end if the voters don't vote for the guy that is in the developer's pocket, he does not get reelected, no matter how much money they have. 11. I'm not suggesting that they would not consider condemnation because he is on the SC... My point is that in most cases an offer needs to be made and rejected before any ED action will be pursued, unless it is actually the government taking it for government use... the offer might be low, but there at least needs to be an offer... Further, I don't think the government can be compelled to condemn the property either... if the government decision maker(s) says no, then its likely no... although that could set a basis for future decisions for that municipality. 12. Clements will probably need to make Souter an offer to buy the land first. Absent that, I doubt anyone would even consider condemnation, and taking under eminent domain... If Souter is smart, he sells, and the story goes nowhere... It would be poetic justice though... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

    Patriotism

Not really... once all the costs of outsourceing (off-shoring really) are taken in to account many companies that do it don't save anything, and in some cases go the other direction. Even the few that do end up saving money don't save it at the level they thought they would. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

  16. Um, that was kinda the point... I think my nation is the greatest... A Russian thinks Russa is the greatest, yada yada yada... but to call someone an asshole for voicing their opinion of which the greatest is, is silly. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  17. Just out of curiosity... which nation do you think is the greatest? My guess is you'll say Spain... although I could be wrong because I've never met you... I think most people tend to think their nation is the greatest, other wise they would try to move to the one that they think is... 18. Perhaps so, but hey, I have a job that does not afford me time to read all 310 posts to this point... and if there are a few, it was far from a "large amount" J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  19. In more than 12 pages of posts, I have not read one post in this thread where anyone said they wanted or intended to "burn the flag". Just because someone says it should be considered protected speech, does not mean that they intend to partake in that type of speech, or even condone it. Just because you don't like it, or find it offensive, does not mean someone else does not have the right to do it. I have served my country in uniform, so my opinion counts just as much as yours, which is equal to every other citizen's opinion when it comes to the ratification process, which depends entirely on how much influence they have at their statehouse. (should it get that far). Personally, I'd rather see the Congress and State legislatures spending their time on more important things. 20. And that is why the DCI and NID need to be appointed for a set term, similar to members of the Federal Reserve Board, rather than serving at the pleasure of the President... The executive branch should always be able to drive the priorities, but should not be able to influence the analysis. 21. And neither is the "misshandling" of the quran... I have a simple way to prevent any future incidents of "misshandling" of the quran at Gitmo, or any other detention facility... take the book away, remove it from the facility entirely... if it is not there, it cannot be misshandled... and if they are truly believers they should not need the book to pray, or otherwise commune with God. And, Bill, if you cannot see they hypocrisy of an islamic government protesting the misshandling of the quran on the one hand, and as a matter of policy destroying bibles on the other... well, glasses may be in order. 24. Where have you been? This happened like 4 or 5 years ago... And yes, it is ridiculous... You would think that someone would step up and at least show them how to wear it "properly"... most of them look like they still have the lining in them... I'm glad I was out when it happend. 25. I'm a little bummed out this morning... There is a pair of red tailed hawks that nest on the office campus that I manage, and every year they have a few chicks, and generally one of them makes it... Yesterday afternoon, the one surviving chick for this year fell from the nest (about 40 feet)... at first it looked like it might be OK, and we called the wildlife rescue folks... they could not be out until morning, and said the parents might get the chick back up to the nest themselves, so keep folks away from it and wait and see what happens... When I got to work this morning the chick was dead Red Tails are great birds, and we love seeing them soar around the buildings (and keeping the pigeon population in check)... it sucks to lose one this way.
