Saving their pride, by parading in front of cameras while looting, ummm, OK, sure... I'll buy that for a dollar. The looting started before the storm even cleared... although I find myself softening, only because of the utter incompetence of the relief effort... Why do you think it is the federal government's responsibility to build a levee? How about them shooting at evacuation helicopters? The evacuation of the Superdome has been suspended because shots have been fired at the helicopters moving people out of the dome to buses... nice All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I guess you are getting at the fact that the 1st photo calls the subjects, who are black, looters and in the 2nd, where the subjects are white, they are called residents, and they found the bread and soda... At face value, I could see where someone might see that as some sort of racial bias... and I' not saying that its not, but... I'm not sure what the editorial practices are for photo captions, but they are from two different services, and two different photographers, (not sure if they came of the same websites) which could account for the difference in perspective and caption. You can also not account for what the photograhper saw before taking the picture... they may have seen the looting actually happen, or seen the others pick the stuff up off the street... Not saying that any of that has anything to do with the captions, but there is an alternative to the racism card... Well, they are moving many of the 25K from the Superdome to the Astrodome... Since there were only 9K in the Superdome during the storm itself, I'd venture to guess some that have gone there after the storm participated in the looting... hopefully they got the looting out of their system becasue the cops here aren't nearly as distracted, and the corner store still has the guy with the gun behind the counter... What I find funny (not really) is that the insurance companies are looking to the government too... Just this morning, I heard a guy from AIG (one of the largest, if not he largest insurance companies) saying that this storm was going to stress the industry, and that if there was another disaster (say a major quake in CA) it could crush them... How did I blame a minority? All I said is my rep. is a POS who was elected based on race not ability. How do you know what race that is, or if it is a minority in this state? I could care less if my rep. is black, white, asian, hispanic, or purple, so long as they have the constituency's interests, not their own, at the forefront of their agenda, and that they have the ability to articulate and advocate for those interests... My current rep. can't even form complete sentences using proper english (ignoring any accents) Moreover, you are assuming I am a republican... Man, talk about taking a quote out of context... since I was the person whom you quoted, I know that that statement was in relation to the government spending money they way I would prefer, and that -my voice- in particular is not heard... it really had nothing to do with Sheehan... I don't know, rose colored glasses, poor counsel, too much second guessing and armchair quarterbacking, too many politicians who whish they were generals (and maybe visa versa)... cashing in on too much of the socalled "Peace Dividend" in the '90s is part of it... not sure...
