Many would disagree... I don't think there was a 30 day stretch from the signing of the armistice in '91 to the invasion that there was not an incident of some sort in the no-fly zone. I believe there was... There have been a lot of people that have expressed displeasure with the war, but its hard to put all of them in one box... some are just anti-war, others think we are fighting the war too PC... so when you see 60% of a poll are displeased with the way Bush is managing the war, you have to look at how those numbers actually break out among the doves and the hawks... I would venture to guess that more than 10 of the 60% are upset not because we are there, but because it appears to them that we are not fighting hard enough. You have heard of the "War Powers Act of 1973" right? Congress ackowledged that the President has the power to execute the foreign policy of the US, and in doing so, may need to use the military absent a declaration of war... so pan's original statement that under our system of laws the President gets to decide is correct, at least for 60 days... then the congress has to pipe in (which in the case of Iraq and Afganistan they have through authorizing the use of force and contiuing appropriations) J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

My guess is it is hard to assign someone without ratings... although it should be on them to find him a unit... prepheckt - after you failed to qualify as a controller, did they reclass you to another specialty? You'd think that they would not cut loose an Acedemy grad so easily... You could always try to switch to another branch... What happens if no units will take you on? I'll have to disagree here... one does not have to have served to understand the whys and wherefores of armed conflict... wars are fought by soldiers in the interest and name of the people, so the people should have a voice in if and why the war should be fought... I would agree that critisism and protest of and about specific actions of soldiers should be reserved to those who have walked in those boots, but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. You should work for the media... the article you linked does not say one word about cutting benifits. If fact it said there is an increase in funding, just not in the amount the VFW would like to see... I agree that it is not as large an increase as it should be, because vnetrans healthcare sucks and has for a long long time, but a $500MM increase is not a cut... It's not impossible, you just have to understand that its about end strength, not recruiting or retention individually. If they are missing their end strenght numbers there could be an issue, but I do not believe that is the case... and its certainly not the chicken little cry of "the draft is coming" that rhino keeps singing. Does the mother have the right to engage in ILLEGAL behavior? Its illegal to use cocaine, and at least in the county in question, it is illegal to endanger the child even before birth... The mother had no right to use coke, and now she is faced with the consequences of endangering the child, who because of her endangerment will in all likelyhood, with or without this legal action, be a burden on society. It's not really about your ability, its more about the vairiables you can't control once you are in the air, i.e. the other guy... raft dives, bigways, freefly... hell doing a solo, and not knowing the guy behind you... all of those have some element of the other guy casuing you to get knocked out through no action or inaction of you own... Rush and several other conservative talk show hosts have commented that this guy's actions were not appropriate... I do find it interesting though that while the media's attention is on this one mother, there are other parents of fallen servicemen right down the street from her camp who do not share her views, but they get little to no airtime. Funny, I didn't see that in the Consitution... she has a right to protest, sure... but others have the right to insult her too... I don't see anyone abusing her, a least not in a phyiscal sense... I do see some of the anti-Bush crowd taking advantage of her though... It is sad that she lost her son to the war, and now she is losing her husband to these theatrics... will the anti-Bush bunch be around to comfort her when it is all said and done?
