New gun laws in chicago working amazingly well already
regulator replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
The term 'new' might be misused. But its obvious they arent doing that good of a job enforcing the laws they already have on the books regarding firearms. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/30/us/strict-chicago-gun-laws-cant-stem-fatal-shots.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 -
New gun laws in chicago working amazingly well already
regulator replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
CHICAGO—An attack in which a 6-month-old girl was fatally shot and her father was wounded was apparently gang-related, and authorities said Tuesday that they are searching for the gunman and the driver of the getaway van. Jonylah Watkins was shot five times during the Monday afternoon attack in the South Side neighborhood of Woodlawn. She died Tuesday morning at Comer Children’s Hospital, police said. Her father, Jonathan Watkins, was in serious but stable condition, recovering at Northwestern Memorial Hospital from wounds to his side, buttocks and face, which was only grazed, police said. Witnesses said the attacker approached Jonathan Watkins around 1 p.m. while he was standing beside his minivan and changing his daughter’s diaper. She was on the front seat. Her family said Jonylah was shot in the thigh, shoulder, lung, liver and bowels. Jonathan Watkins belongs to a gang and has a long criminal history, and Monday’s attack appears to have been gang-related, Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said at a Tuesday news conference. He said police weren’t sure yet whether Watkins will decide to cooperate in the investigation. “No child, certainly not an infant, should be a victim of gang violence,” McCarthy said. Authorities found surveillance video of the blue van in which they believe the attacker fled. They believe a driver waited in the van during the shooting. McCarthy said police flooded the neighborhood Monday night to prevent a retaliatory attack over the infant girl’s shooting. “He was obviously targeted,” McCarthy said of Jonathan Watkins. Police were trying to determine whether a reported Facebook post threatening Watkins actually exists, McCarthy said. It wasn’t the family’s first brush with Chicago’s gun violence. The girl’s mother, Judy Watkins, was shot in the knee while she was pregnant with Jonylah, according to the woman’s mother, Mary Young. “There’s too much shooting over there,” Young told reporters Monday. Speaking of her granddaughter, she added, “She’s nothing but 6 months old. How could anybody—what kind of heart?” Chicago has seen a rise in gun violence—much of it gang-related—and registered at least 500 homicides last year for the first time since 2008. In 2011, there were 435 homicides. McCarthy had told reporters Monday that homicides were down 26 percent this year, compared with the same period a year earlier. On Tuesday, he said: “It’s hard to see the progress.” http://www.khou.com/news/national/Gang-member-opens-fire-on-dad-changing-babys-diaper-infant-dies-after-shot-5-times--197481451.html -
(sports) Criteria for "Blacked Out in Your Area"??
regulator replied to dropdeded's topic in The Bonfire
As a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers I have known about blackouts for some time now. The only saving grace per se is that I am not local and had to result to NFL Sunday Ticket by DirecTV. But those charges got old and I got tired of pressing buttons on the remote only to have my channel pressed 30 seconds later in the wrong order so I cancelled satellite TV two months ago and I have Uverse instead. Now when I press 1002 on my remote it actually inputs that on my tv in close to real time. Unless you suck it up and get the hockey pass you will be subjected to blackouts if your team doesnt sell out. Although I dont know the rules for the NHL in comparison for the NFL. -
So if a guy were to take this [ahem] 'lady' on a date when she got released does this mean you'll have an easier chance of getting anal?

I just got the blu-ray rip of the 2012 version of Red Dawn. The first one was fantastic. The second? Close but not as good IMO. It might have something to do with the fact that when the original was released there was more of a chance of conflict between the USA and the USSR than the USA and NK. But I wont dispute the idea either. -

You probably already know that North Korea has a long history of firing long-range missiles into the air, with mixed success. The country first showed off its aeronautical prowess—as much as a secretive authoritarian regime can—in 1998 with a Taepodong-1 rocket. Neither the rocket nor its satellite payload reached orbit. The country's second attempt in 2006 ended 40 seconds after liftoff when the Taepodong-2 rocket exploded. For its third attempt in 2009, North Korean engineers created a more advanced version of the Taepodong-2, known as the Unha-2 ("Galaxie-2"), but its third-stage engine failed to ignite and the entire assembly crashed into the Pacific Ocean. And in April of last year, North Korea's latest rocket iteration, the Unha-3, also "failed to reach orbit". http://gizmodo.com/5989194/could-north-korea-really-hit-us-with-a-nuke -

Did 'Red Dawn' really piss off North Korea this bad?

North Korea amplified its threatening rhetoric hours before a U.N. vote on new sweeping sanctions, vowing to launch a first-strike nuclear attack against the United States and threatening to engulf Washington in a "sea of fire." An unidentified spokesman for Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry said the North will exercise its right for "a preemptive nuclear attack to destroy the strongholds of the aggressors" because Washington is pushing to start a nuclear war against the North. At a mass rally in Pyongyang on Thursday, Army Gen. Kang Pyo Yong told the crowd that North Korea is ready to fire long-range nuclear-armed missiles at Washington. "Intercontinental ballistic missiles and various other missiles, which have already set their striking targets, are now armed with lighter, smaller and diversified nuclear warheads and are placed on a standby status," Kang said. "When we shell (the missiles), Washington, which is the stronghold of evils, .... will be engulfed in a sea of fire." Such inflammatory rhetoric is common from North Korea, and especially so in recent days. North Korea is angry over the possible sanctions and over upcoming U.S.-South Korean military drills. At a mass rally in Pyongyang on Thursday, tens of thousands of North Koreans protested the U.S.-South Korean war drills and sanctions. The U.N. Security Council is set to impose a fourth round of sanctions against Pyongyang in a fresh attempt to rein in its nuclear and ballistic missile programs. Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, the current council president, said the council would vote on the draft sanctions resolution Thursday morning. The resolution was drafted by the United States and China, North Korea's closest ally. The council's agreement to put the resolution to a vote just 48 hours later signaled that it would almost certainly have the support of all 15 council members. The statement by the North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman was carried by the North's official Korean Central News Agency. It accused the U.S. of leading efforts to slap sanctions on North Korea. The statement said the new sanctions would only advance the timing for North Korea to fulfill previous vows to take "powerful second and third countermeasures" against its enemies. It hasn't elaborated on those measures. The statement said North Korea "strongly warns the U.N. Security Council not to make another big blunder like the one in the past when it earned the inveterate grudge of the Korean nation by acting as a war servant for the U.S. in 1950." North Korea demanded the U.N. Security Council immediately dismantle the American-led U.N. Command that's based in Seoul and move to end the state of war that exists on the Korean Peninsula, which continues six decades after fighting stopped because an armistice, not a peace treaty, ended the war. In anticipation of the resolution's adoption, North Korea earlier in the week threatened to cancel the 1953 cease-fire that ended the Korean War. North Korean threats have become more common as tensions have escalated following a rocket launch by Pyongyang in December and its third nuclear test on Feb. 12. Both acts defied three Security Council resolutions that bar North Korea from testing or using nuclear or ballistic missile technology and from importing or exporting material for these programs. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice said the proposed resolution, to be voted on at 10 a.m. EST (1500 GMT), would impose some of the strongest sanctions ever ordered by the United Nations. The final version of the draft resolution, released Wednesday, identified three individuals, one corporation and one organization that would be added to the U.N. sanctions list if the measure is approved. The targets include top officials at a company that is the country's primary arms dealer and main exporter of ballistic missile-related equipment, and a national organization responsible for research and development of missiles and probably nuclear weapons. The success of a new round of sanctions could depend on enforcement by China, where most of the companies and banks that North Korea is believed to work with are based. The United States and other nations worry that North Korea's third nuclear test pushed it closer to its goal of gaining nuclear missiles that can reach the U.S. The international community has condemned the regime's nuclear and missile efforts as threats to regional security and a drain on the resources that could go to North Korea's largely destitute people. The draft resolution condemns the latest nuclear test "in the strongest terms" for violating and flagrantly disregarding council resolutions, bans further ballistic missile launches, nuclear tests "or any other provocation," and demands that North Korea return to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. It also condemns all of North Korea's ongoing nuclear activities, including its uranium enrichment. But the proposed resolution stresses the council's commitment "to a peaceful, diplomatic and political solution" and urged a resumption of six-party talks with the aim of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula "in a peaceful manner." The proposed resolution would make it significantly harder for North Korea to move around the funds it needs to carry out its illicit programs and strengthen existing sanctions and the inspection of suspect cargo bound to and from the country. It would also ban countries from exporting specific luxury goods to the North, including yachts, luxury automobiles, racing cars, and jewelry with semi-precious and precious stones and precious metals. According to the draft, all countries would now be required to freeze financial transactions or services that could contribute to North Korea's nuclear or missile programs. To get around financial sanctions, North Koreans have been carrying around large suitcases filled with cash to move illicit funds. The draft resolution expresses concern that these bulk cash transfers may be used to evade sanctions. It clarifies that the freeze on financial transactions and services that could violate sanctions applies to all cash transfers as well as the cash couriers. The proposed resolution also bans all countries from providing public financial support for trade deals, such as granting export credits, guarantees or insurance, if the assistance could contribute to the North's nuclear or missile programs. It includes what a senior diplomat called unprecedented new travel sanctions that would require countries to expel agents working for sanctioned North Korean companies. The draft also requires states to inspect suspect cargo on their territory and prevent any vessel that refuses an inspection from entering their ports. And a new aviation measure calls on states to deny aircraft permission to take off, land or fly over their territory if illicit cargo is suspected to be aboard. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/03/07/north-korea-vows-nuclear-attack-on-us-ahead-un-sanctions-vote/ -

The majority of people on food stamps would rather be off them, they would Much rather earn a livable wage. But when it comes to the GOP tossing out red meat to the ditto heads, there's no meat redder than the dark-skinned welfare recipient. ---------------------------------------------- So it seems now all we need is a system that will weed out the recipients and for the half that would like to be self sufficient give them first dibs as jobs in their area. The rest will be given a 60 day notice to find a job or their entitlements will get cut off. Sounds good to me. -

Saying that people 'add no value' demonstrates nothing other than ignorant bias. Is everyone supposed to 'add value' to society? I thought the country was about individual rights, not adding value..... Perhaps you could show me where that is in the Constitution. your opinion nothing more and just as worthless as my posts I expect. -------------------------------------------- I was just trying to get you to admit your posts are worthless. SUCCESS!!!

-------------------------------------------------------- The empitus of my post is that there are vastly more people in this current soceity that are living off the system that have no value to the population. Just like your posts.
