  3. ***Didn't you almost hurt yourself making a low turn not too long ago? I thought you posted something about that recently. __________________________________________________ Yes, I did make a hook turn on my second SL jump back in August. I'm not sure about "almost" hurting myself. I didn't get hurt at all (under a 195). Your concern is understandable and very much appreciated. I do have downsizing concerns and promise I will be jumping a 170 for a while before making any decisions. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

***He needs to get laid! (Was that "among other things"?) __________________________________________________ BINGO! I can help him get laid Hawiaii style. I'll just bring my "lays" next time I see him and put one around his neck. It will serve a dual purpose....He will have gotten "laid", and he'll finally have something that matches his tie dye shirts (sorry Walt, I could not resist) Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

  8. ***Low Self-Esteem - After being in an abusive relationship there is a feeling that they can do no better than their current relationship. Being Alone - To end the relationship could mean a loss of mutual friends, relatives and others associated with the relationship. Financial - Money, children and no place to go also hold women in these relationships. __________________________________________________ Boy, does this hit home. My mom never came out and said it, but I know these are the main reasons she never left my dad. After growing up watching her take his crap...and taking a great deal of it myself...it makes me cringe to think that anyone would CHOOSE an abusive partner. I made a pact with myself a long time ago that I would take better care of myself than that....and I've kept that pact. I was pretty young and innocent when I met my husband 13 years ago, but I had seen enough to know that he was a MAJOR catch. While we were dating, he said something that baffled me. I had mentioned that I could not understand why someone had not snatched him up... he said it was because he was "boring". The "jerks" were more appealing. Man - I had seen enough excitement in my short life that "boring" looked pretty awesome to me. I am thankful that those girls felt that way, because my husband and I will celebrate 11 years of marriage next month. P.S. Thanks, RL, for the information/links Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

  14. I appreciate your advice. I am wondering if you can shed some light on something else I've been wondering about. Right now I'm paying only $25 a day to reant gear. I can jump my butt off and it's still just $25. In the near future I will be moving to a new city and bigger dz. I will be paying $25 per JUMP. Do you feel it makes more sense to be investing that dough in my own gear instead of renting? I will do more research and ask questions before I decide on anything, but I don't want to be throwing good money away on rental gear. 15. Man, on my first five SL jumps, it's amazing I could even hang onto the strut at all because I shook so bad. That "crippling" fear vanished once I got off of the static line. I still experience climb/door fear, but I too am okay once I'm outside the plane. I really think the fear is your mind's way of telling you "this is your last chance to back out". Once you are out the door, your mind knows there is no turning back. I believe it's a survival skill, and it is actually part of the fun! Every experienced jumper has told me that some fear is normal....and that if there ever comes a day when there is NO fear or anxiety, it's time to quit! 16. You will be in my prayers for sure. You are in the best hands. First of all, GOD'S...and second, you're in Houston...with some of the best facilities for cancer treatment/surgeries. You'll be back in the skies before you know it! Oh...and read my sig line. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  17. switched from AFF to SL. First AFF jump: never arched, instructor pulled @ 7 grand, lost a shoe during freefall (if you can call it freefall), sprained ankle on landing, left the dz in an ambulance due to sheer panic! SL jump #2...made a hook turn Was lucky to be alive for instructor to chew on my butt! On my first 4 SL jumps, my hands were shaking so bad as I climbed out on the strut it's amazing I could hang on at all. Somewhere between jump #s 5 and 6 I just got it! No more shaking! I was never unstable during my short delays and on my very first long delay I hit my nose on the step and still did everything right on the skydive part. This was also my first jump without radio and I still landed on target, bleeding all over the place! But I was so ecstatic I did not care. It's only gotten better since! (Praise God). Now I dive head first off that step
  18. ***you should buy gear as soon as you can afford too. __________________________________________________ My question had nothing to do with affording gear...what it had to do with is weather or not the price was fair. I know you all can't help with that until I get more info. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  19. ***some people in here are trying to assist you in making a good decision but you should post the information about all of the gear as requested from several people. you are turning your wheels continuing to talk about just a canopy. __________________________________________________ If I had all the info., I would have included it in my first post. Even without the info., I've alread gotten some great advice and suggestions. As I stated in a previous post, I will provide the info. as soon as I get it. I also stated in a previous post that I was unaware the canopy, container, etc. could all be sold separately...kinda new here
  20. ***Anytime I sell anything, my motivation is to get money for it. I think that's true for anyone else that sells something. If he's not trying to get money, what is he trying to get? Reading your post, I have 'red flags' going off. You need to talk with people that know the prices and used gear market. You need to see if that canopy is ok for your experience level. Reread and answer all the other questions asked so far. __________________________________________________ It is clear to me I write what I'm thinking but need to go back and see if it makes sense.... Rocke could have probably asked for a whole lot more than $1200 as the rig is not that old. That is what I meant by money not being the main issue. I do need to find out more details on it, but I don't get the feeling he is looking to make a profit off of it. That is what I meant. He acted like letting it go for that price was really a favor to me. I understand this is a classic selling technique and wanted to make sure $1200 was reasonable. I wasn't even considering buying gear just yet so this sort of caught me off guard. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  21. I've only jumped student gear so far (195)...I'm a little nervous about downsizing to a 150. Rocke was going to let me try his 170 and get used to that, and then try the 150, but I'm not sure that's a good idea this soon. HE seems to not have a problem with it, but it's my life right? I would almost rather just find a good deal on a 170 and stick with that. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  22. I've written down all of the questions you guys posted and I'm going to ask my instructor! As I mentioned in my previous posts, I did not know you could buy parts of the rig separately...that's why I only said canopy. It makes more sense now. When I get all the details...I'll post them to this thread. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  23. I'm very glad I posted this here. I said 1200 for a used canopy without understanding that you could buy the stuff separately. I assumed everything came together. My instructor is selling a FULL rig for 1200. I guess the way I worded it in my first post...some of you thought I meant just the parachute. I am talking about a complete rig. I have written down all the questions you all have asked and will give them to my instructor before I make a decision. I wasn't planning on buying gear this early in the game, but it makes more sense to do that then spend so much money renting gear every time. Please keep your thoughts and advice coming...I really appreciate it. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  24. Guys! Thank you so much. I really wasn't sure if $1200 dollars was a steal or not. Let me clarify something....are we all talking about a full rig hear. Container, main, reserve, etc.? Because that's what I'm talking about. If $1200 is too much for used gear then I will definately keep looking. I didn't want to just take the first thing that came along, but I also didn't want to pass it up if it was a "once in a lifetime" deal. From what you are all saying, sounds to me like I need to keep looking. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
