  1. many get well vibes to Michele. get well soon girl!!!!!!!!!
  2. Mark, that is a great little story. You are just missing one little point. Who did the US declare war on? Hence, what uniform could they have been wearing? I'll make it easy for you, even though I know it is not necessary for you. They declared war on terrorism. A terrorists' uniform is generally civillian clothing. Hence, your little story about the execution under the geneva convention doesn't hold true. I am truly sorry to see that you have joined the ranks of the people who have to resort to these terms. I really did have more respect for you.
  3. Best titee bar in North America is without a doubt the Sundowner in Niagara Falls, Ontario. YMMV, but it is always many miles
  4. And my question back was: What laws are you going to change or add to avoid this from happening? Are you going to make a law that says the US is goingt o abide by the Geneva Convention? Or a law that states that the US shall not make up its own term to avoid having to abide by the Geneva Convention? You do not see the stupidity in this? Re: concentration camps. It was never implied or stated that the camps served the same purpose. The implication was made that the reasoning behind the PLACEMENT of the camps might be the same. What part of that do you not understand?
  5. read what I wrote Non of the extermination camps were built in Germany or France or The Netherlands, but they were in Poland and the Ukraine. The other camps were forced labour and holding camps. Those were in Germany, France and The Netherlands to name a few. It is all on the list you posted. Did you even read it before you posted it? Zlew, my apologies, it was juansky who came up with the braindead idea to try and change the laws that are already not being followed.
  6. Ohh no the file is true. But did you read it? Did you actually look at it? Because all the concentration camps in Germany or Austria or France or The Netherlands were transit points or forced labour camps. None of those camps were extermination camps. Hence, your little file means nothing. Next time maybe read what you post.
  7. I love it when they keep saying that to a professor Ohh and Zlew, to go back to an earlier post where you suggested people talk to their government reps and get the laws changed. Now which laws would this be? The ones the US is skirting with fancy terms or the ones they are just ignoring? The whole issue is that the US is not following International conventions. So what are you going to change? Adding wording that the US is not allowed to not follow the convention?
  8. Thank you Remi, I was going to post that, but I thought that was blatently obvikous. I wonder why Juansky cannot see that.

    Holy war

Without any shadow of a doubt, but that wasn't the point. You claimed that the war in Iraq had not deminished US activity in Afghanistan. I am pointing out that I don't think that is correct and said why.
  10. I think it is a little naive to think it is only the rest of the world who thinks that way. Outside of the humane aspects of smart bombs, it is pretty clear that it is easier to gain and keep sujpport of the war, in the US itself, when as little collateral damage as possible occurs. If in the process of warfare the US kills many innocent bystanders for whatever reason, homeland support will decrease pretty quickly. It would be naive to think that developement and use of smart weapons is not done with partly that in mind.
  11. I am not quite sure which Bill you are replying too. Remi is many things, mostly ugly, but certainly not a Bill
  12. Turtlespeed, you were the one stating a claim, hence you should be the one providing proof for that claim. You have to prove it valid, not have other prove it invalid. Maybe in your research it will open your eyes to things outside of the US. The cleanest, most civilised jails in the world. You make me laugh. I'll even point you in the direction of the country you could look to. The Netherlands.

I am not sure where that comes from, but you are rarely able to post more than a derogatory one liner aimed at the left without any substantiating claims. So to keep in your style: You keep saying that to yourself while the big people talk about real issues, okay.
  14. No, respect is something that is earned. I have a hard time blaming that on teachers and the "system" whatever that is. In my days, discipline meant having your parents spoken to. Then the parents would further deal out discipline if they saw fit. Teachers aren't always right. I find that these issues occur do to a lack of a family life or family interaction. I tend to believe that children interact with parents far less these days than they did say 10 or 20 years ago. Allowing teachers to hit their pupils wouldn't solve anything, it would just further generate an environment of violence.

I agree, which once again shows that free speech does not apply here. When in uniform a person is not free to state his or her opinions without it potentially having some very serious ramifications.

Right, so we have settled the whole free speech bullshit argument.

Off course not. Why would he? His commander in chief hears God at night in his head. To me, what he said, when he said it, was a stupid thing to do, specially in uniform. I don't see how this has anything to do with freedom of speech. I really call that a bullshit argument. I wonder how many generals would survive standing on a podium in full dress uniform explaining to people how he thinks Bush is a complete moron. Free speech my ass.
  18. I am with you Dove. Yeah my fantasies aren't really of the romantic type. I think they would look out of place in this thread BTW, welcome back in the air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I think many people in different way challenge themselves. Some take it to a more extreme level than others. I thought that a group of skydivers would definitely understand that.

Actually, Canadian troops among others have relieved US troops in Afghanistan so they could be redirected to Iraq. I am sure you don't really get to hear that in the US media, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening.
  21. Funny, I was thinking the same thing. Happy Birthday Willem. Vermeulen, there has to be a Dutch or African side to Rene

But John, you have this completely wrong. When it comes to defense spending we look at % of GDP. But when it comes to aid for the poor we look at absolute dollars. Now quit being silly and try and compare apples to apples.

Ahh but your like-minded friends have. So do you disagree with them? When you look at US defense spending in absolute dollars, it is an astronomical number. When you look at it as a percentage of GDP it really isn't that far out of line with many other countries. So, how should we look at this? As an absolute number or as a percentage of GDP?
