But if you would have never been able to record that information, you wouldn't even know this. You wouldn't be able to send targeted information to those people at risk if it turns out that an ethnic group is at risk due to a genetic issue. You talk about treatment, but doesn't prevention work better than treatment. How will prevention work under this scenario? How would you be able to send targeted, prevention information regarding sickle cell anemia? Women suffer the far majority of breast cancer cases. How would you be able to run prevention programs if you cannot identify who is male and who is female? It still makes no sense to me.

Then comes the difficult part: finding a solution. Racial and/or ethnic and/or gender information is needed to effectively design solutions. I really don't see what the problem is with that. I completely agree with you Anvil. The decision to give or not give assistance should be based on perfomance and not on race. However, now we have to think of the next step, what type of assistance to give. Not every perfomance issue can be solved with the same typical solution. Race or gender related information can help design a workable solution for a problem. Canada made this mistake quite some years ago in a different form by not allowing Metro Toronto police officers to indicate race on incident and arrest forms. Never thought I'd see the day where the US is following Canada's lead

Right and with a world population of 6 billion people and growing, we really need to worry about that. Plus, if we do not allow gay people to get married, they will become straight and start having babies I really do not understand the issue. If gay people want to get married, gay people should be able to get married. We allow civil weddings, so the christians really should not have an issue with it, since not all weddings are performed in church as it is. For non-christian-anti-same-sex-marriage people , what do you care? How does it effect you? A gay couple is married, they ahve made a strong commitment to eachother....how does that affect your life?

Actually no I don't. As far as I can remember Indonesia was never under British control. It was however under Dutch control. I think with Malaya you might be refering to the current Malaysia, which was first under Portugese, then udner Dutcha nd finally under British control. Indonesia became independent after Dutch rule. If my memory serves me well, that happened after a 4 year struggle right after the end of WWII. And the Dutch are not known for their understatements
