Poll is a little limiting. I am right on certain issues and left on other issues and decidedly centrist in others. I also find that different times ask for different measures. Times change and so do measures. So, I may be right on one issue today but left on the same issue a year later. If only people could be simply put in a pigeon hole.

I still don't think that is a democrat vs republican issue either. I think most media usually will pick a negative story over a positive story. You always hear more about things gone wrong than things done well. I think overall the invasion of Iraq and ensueing problems is not really a positive story though. It really hasn't been in any media outlet around the world. Not only the left leaning US media is running negative reports about that campaign. Most media outlets around the world are doing that.

I am assuming you are talking about the WMD issue. Nothing I have said on this thread has anything to do with that issue, so I am not sure what your little anecdote has to do with anything related to this thread and the issues discussed in it.

I think it would be wise to look beyond just partisan use of the media and ask the following question: How was the media used in priming the US population for war? Why is it a large majority of Americans believe that Iraq had something to do with 9/11? I am not talking about which side of the political spectrum is doing it more or has more outlets. They all use the media, very successfully I might add, to manipulate the masses. And I don't think Fox could be considered centrist, but that is just my own opinion.

I don't think that was Kallend's point. You mentioed that Iraq was in violation of UN resolutions and therefor people should not complain about the US invading them. My point and I think Kallends point as well is that otehr countries, most notable Israel, have been in violation of more UN resolutions over a longer timespan than Iraq. Hence your point isn't really valid in the argument. You could conclude that obviously the US had other motives than just enforcing UN resolutions when they invaded Iraq. The question and debate has always been about what those other motives were.

That is not my point. You mentioned that in other countries state owned and operated media is used as an only source of information and that the leadership of those countries (ab)uses that. My point back was thet eventhough the media in the US is not state owned, it is still being (ab)used by the government to make poeple think certain things and to gain support.

I have heard children in kindergarden agrue and debate better than that I mean be honest, Arnold doesn't come accross as even a halfway intelligent guy. Do you really wonder why the whole world is chuckling at this situation?

I understand your point. But the same happens in the US constantly. Why else would a large majority of Americans think Al Qaeda and Iraq were connected and that Iraq had something to do with 9/11? Do you think they just thought of that themselves or were they influenced by reports they read and heard through American media?

Yeah the media has a pretty powerfull effect on things. It is one of the reasons I am happy I speak more than one language and am able to get multiple news sources from different countries. The editorial spin works both ways and I presonally do not think it is fair to generally state that only left leaning media is guilty of doing this. As far as Bush and Iraq. I don't think that is a valid argument. There are other countries who have blatently been disregarding UN resolutions for many years and the US is doing nothing about that. That is just not a valid comparison. I think this is a media issue and to me really has nothing to do with left vs right or Republican vs Democrat. To me the right elaning media is just as guilty of editorial spin as the left leaning press.

See, I am not sure what to say about the first one. I never understood what the issue was with his statement and I knew that he had not said he admired Hitler for what he did. I think it was wrong of the Times to write that and good of them to print a rectification. To me Arnold is not a Republican/Democrat issue. I have heard him speak a couple of times now and I simply cannot understand how anybody can think this guy is even halfway intelligent enough to run the 5th largest economy of the world.
