Happy Birthday

For someone who professes to "not care", you sure spend a lot of time arguing against guns. And I've never seen you protest an anti-gun argument. Your actions speak louder than your words. We know where you stand, despite your quote above to the contrary. *** I have no love for guns, that is quite obvious. Doesn't take away from the fact that I could care less if you get to carry them in the US. It doesn't affect me in the least. Hence, I find comments like "stop trying to take my freedom away" quite funny. Since I also stated I liek playing devil's advocate, it should be somewhat obvious that my personal opinions and those brought forward in a discussion are not necessarily identical.

Not completely true. I don't live in the US and have stated many times before that I really could care less if you carry guns or not. I really get a kick out of people telling me I should stop trying to take their freedom away. I don't live in the US, I don't get to vote in the US and I do not make laws in the US. How the hell am i going to take your freedom away. I do enjoy playing the devil's advocate from time to time. I find that specially with an issue like gun control people get highly emotional and make some pretty strong arguments. I love how many put me immediately into a pigeon hole just because my argument doesn't match their opinions, or think that life is made up of a series of black and white options/choices.

Actually I am a conservative, but nobody on these forums will ever believe that

My Ontario, Canada plate reads: SKYDEKR Wonderful 30th birthday present from my beautiful wife.
-
That is awesome, congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!
-
dealers would be protected by this new law as well.
-
I don't really know enough about guns or the current technology surrounding them. But, maybe find a way so that only the rightful owner of the gun can shoot it?
-
A war was never declared. Major operations we were told were over (I remember it well, GWB flying onto the carrier, claiming voctory, the banner, etc.). So, now we are in the rebuilding stage. we are creating a democracy. Since according to you guns are so important to ensure that a state remains a democracy and no tyrannical ruler will come to power, I would assume the US would want the Iraqi citizens to carry guns, since that would help their cause.
-
yeah ok Forced to design safer weapons, bear different type of arms etc.
-
I thought it was the right to bear arms not the right to manufacture arms
-
Yes and it took lawsuits and the research that went into them to find that out. What if there had been a law that protected them?
-
But you have already given this particular freedom to the people. Just think of the tobacco companies and all the suits they face(d). Many companies and people face frivolous lawsuits on a daily basis, it is one of the jokes aften made about the US. Why would you now all of a sudden need to protect the gun industry if you do not offer this protection to the other industries?
-
Right, there are no environmental groups and Ford and GE barely spend any time in courtrooms
-
I didn't know they had credibility to begin with.
-
Well, then I guess you are the better man, because I can't. I can't make a generalized statement like that about the US.
-
Or ask the NRA for some of their money back
-
Then I am sure a jury of 12 of your peers will make a similar decision. If not, maybe it is not such lunacy?
-
That's pretty damn weak. RevJim, I am the kind of neutral where I really dislike what the US is currently doing with their foreign policy, nor am I a particular fan of the current president. I do like most people I have met from the US. I like the fact that the US does try to help and put some of their might and wealth to good use. I like what the US stands for in free and open markets and capitalism. The list goes on and on. So tell me, am I now anti or pro american?
-
I thought you guys were so high on freedom. Why would you want to restrict someone the freedom to sue those companies if he/she so wishes. It is then up to the judge and jury to try the case. That is how the system is supposed to work. It is a little rediculous to start whining about freedoms in one thread and then squashing some elses freedom because it doesn't fit with your views. One or the other gentlemen. (By the way, I think that the law suit is rediculous, as I think of many such lawsuits in the US, but that is besides the point) I thought people here thought that the federal government has restricted freedom too much as it is? edited for spelling
-
Not at all. Though they certainly don't seem to be as happy as the US thought they would be. But if something is a fundamental right in your country and you then invade a country and try and shape it to your likeness. I would think it appropriate to give its citizens the same freedoms.
-
And that same fear holds true today. It is one of many things that prevents Bush from invading or bombing North Korea.
-
So, you are saying that Iraqis should not have the same rights as Americans?
-
Yes, but m point was that those exemptions are not being made in Iraq, now are they?
-
You didn't read the whole article or did a little bit of research for yourself did you? Outside of giving them away, they were widely for sale in both legal and illegal markets. I don't think there is much of an equal distribution of guns in the US either. You still need the money to buy them, same in Iraq.
