  1. You go in to see your boss, tell her you are giving your notice and that date X will be your last day. You tell her that you will follow it up with a written notice. Same day, or next day at the latest, you hand her a written notice stating the same thing.
  2. Very true, but there certainly are situations where renting is more adventageous than owning. But only in relatively defined scenarios, with very structured people. Owning a home is a built in, forced investment plan, it is not easy to get your money out, and when you do it is expensive. If you are single and okay with living in a cheaper 1 bedroom apartment it will always be cheaper to rent, specially if you can find a place with utilities included. If your family circumstances require you to have a 4 bedroom house, this scenario doesn't work anymore. The further assumption is that when you rent, you are able to save all the money you would otherwise spend on the house. If you are not as good with saving, the scenario doesn't work anymore.... There are a few other scenarios in which renting is better than owning, but they are all relatively defined and specific. In Canada less so because here interest paid on a mortgage is NOT deductable, increasing the cost of home ownership. I think this discussion just proves that most times blanket statements are not valid.
  3. Not too many Mounties in Toronto. It has been a bad week for Mounties, my thoughts are with all law enforcement officers, but specially our finest in red.
  4. One of the other manufacturer's gets into that when discussing whether or not it would work against body armour. Anyways, i'll just stick with the word of the guy who deals with it almost on a daily basis. And, sometimes it even gets cold here in Canada. GM, I think it is a bike rack, not a parking meter, and not a scratch
  5. Okay I have a quote from a company FAQ, plus the verbal testimony of an ETF sergeant who has used the taser more than 40 times last year, which includes a 6 month winter in Canada. What do you have?
  6. from taser.com: Bolding mine for emphasis.
  7. absolutely, killing people is much better than killing animals.
  8. One of my consultants is an active sargeant on the Toronto ETF. Accoring to him heavy winter coats are not an issue for tazers. Remember, the needles do not even have to hit skin. The "" are just because it is such a cheesy term.
  9. I have said it before, better start learning Cantonese and Mandarin. When you guys are still trying to figure out how to pay off your massive ( and fastly growing) debt, they will be the next superpower and there is nothing you can do to stop it now.
  10. I am assuming you are against hunting as well?
  11. And I am sure Moore used some real footage as well. You are refering to a video series that only has one purpose, to shock people. Do you really think it paints a true picture of the seal hunt?
  12. Funny enough city council on the day this happened approved more widespread use of tasers. Currently only ETF (Toronto's version of SWAT) officers carry them. There is always a ETF team on the road in Toronto, they however did not make it to this one in time. Apparently the "bad guy" only suffered a broken wrist. I am actually surprised the guy didn't get shot, the officers showed some amazing restraint. Some may find the video graphic. http://www.pulse24.com/In_The_Raw/Raw_Video/20050308-001/Video-5-2.asx
  13. LOL, if you call that a documentary, then anything Moore does is equivalent to gospel.
  14. I agree it is not logical. All I would have had to do was put up a sign saying that it is not allowed. Would have cost him $50. Going to cost him a lot more now. Edited to add: I deal with major payouts to customers who slip and fall in my parking lot on almost a monthly basis. My property is in Canada, we get snow and ice sometimes.....still people expect a non-slippery surface to walk on. Logical...no, but not doing it costs a lot more. Logic has nothing to do with this.
  15. It is completely different. They knew this was happening. It appears they did nothing to stop the continued bahaviour on their property. The case you brought up, I agree is stupid and I hate it when they win cases like that. In this case, the property owner has not been very diligent in the operation of his property, that will come at a price.
  16. This is the important part in the article. So, the property owner was aware that this was going on. He was also aware that somebody had already gotten hurt doing it. Yeah, in that case he is negligable. You cannot allow unsafe practices to continue on your property. When you are aware, yet you do nothing about it, it is the same as actively condoning. Yeah the kid is being stupid, but the property owner never told him no to do it.
  17. Good for you, fact remains, crime is still rampant in the US. Do you think that if guns were free, or maybe subsidized, crime rates would go down even further? I am okay with it, because the need isn't there. and by the way, guns are not illegal in Canada. I know many people with guns in their house right here in Canada. So, if people feel the need to arm themselves to protect themselves in their house, they are free to do so.
  18. Now, now, no need to get all hot under the collar, we wouldn't want you to go postal, or columbine, or anything on us..... When you are done with your deep breathing exercises, read the post I replied to. It was specific to protection of life and property.
  19. Yup, there were, but no where near the numbers you guys have. On top of that not everybody thinks the answers is everybody having a gun.
  20. so what....you still allow people from other states to drive in any other state. State specifics can still be relayed with the document.
  21. Life is more important than property, I could not agree with you more. That is why I am so happy that eventhough I work in one of the biggest cities of North America and live in the suburbs of that city, I belong to a society which does not feel the need to arm itself for defence purposes. Don't you find it odd that so many people are proud of living in a country where apparently a firearm is needed to protect one's life?
  22. Just an interesting choice of words. The spin on this forum is more entertaining to watch than flipping between CNN and Fox News.
  23. MAY have gotten from the US? Come on indeed.
  24. I am a former smoker and strongly oppose the idea of banning smoking or any otherwise legal activity on or in private property. Canada is discussing the idea of banning smoking in cars with minors present. Though I think that a parent smoking with their kid in the car is an absolute a-hole, I am not in favour of making laws to ban it.
