  1. That's not what he said. Many do catch up, just look at those finishing university and those going on. Also interesting to note is that many European universities do not have the three degree structure, but a two degree structure. with the first degree falling somewhere between a Bachelor's and a Masters and the final degree probably on par with a PhD. For Holland, also interesting to note, there are several different levels of High School. One must attain the highest level of High School to be eligable for university. Those graduating from that highest level of high school are certainly better educated than most graduates from the North American high school system. In the end it levels out depending on when during an academic career you compare. You may want to really read before you attack.
  2. ahhh yes, but even if it is true......
  3. Well, other than calling kallend an old fucker.
  4. As part of their training yes. Military is ingrained in their cilvilian life much more. You still haven't answered the question as to wether or not you have actually been there and spent some time there. On top of that, the basic concept is comepletely different. Theirs is top defend themselves against outside forces. Yours is to defend yourself against your own government.
  5. Having been to high school in Europe and niversity in both Canada and Europe, I concur. And it extends in to more than just science and math.
  6. yeah, but that doesn't prove anything. Like, any other variables at play?
  7. fair enough, but is it your claim that the opposite is true though? That there is correlation or even causation between gun freedom and reduction in crime?
  8. Never said you did, though I have read many a comment like that on these forums. No need to be all defensive. That might be true. But the gist of the story is that before America tries to become the policeman of the world, they may want to look at themselves. That statement will sound true to many outside of the US. If you want to simply label that America Bashing, feel free to do so, but at some point perception does become reality.
  9. Couldn't the same argument be made for religion though? Only difference is we won't find out until after we die. edited for spelling
  10. you would be surprised to find out how many people outside of the US hold opinions similar to those expressed by the Chinese. Now I know most of the american population could care less, because you are baddest, sickest, strongest, best people out there and could kick everybody ass. However, it would seem that many of the stats are correct. Sometimes it does behoove one to deal with perception. As America's superpower status starts slipping in the future, that will become even more important.
  11. I can't say I care if people believe me.
  12. okay, anybody care to enlighten people and refute their supposed facts?
  13. okay cool, moved here about 6 months ago.
  14. Nope, but you have often claimed that from the opposing side. Take England for instance and their increase in crime after their gun control efforts. let's say the different way of collecting statistics has nothing to do with it. Are you now finally willing to concede that those gun control laws may have nothing to do with it and that there are many other variables ta play? Or, do you want your cake and eat it to?
  15. Only those accepted into mandatory military service. They are subsequently trained on it. It is to be used in military action against outside forces. Not allowed to carry outside the house. Storage requirements for ammo and rifle. I could go on and on and on. Like I said, sounds like you haven't been there. Ever seen one of those rifles? Or for that matter, any of the hollowed out mountains used by their military? On the second note, since your seem to agree that your culture and guns aren't a great mix together, as a matter of fact, they seem to be a problem together, then why is the answer increased gun ownership?
  16. Being Canadian I am certainly no expert, but are there any factual issues with the piece?
  17. ahhh yes, selective quotes. You may want to include the question that your selected quote was the answer to. If some one asks you to explain how you would go about killing some one and you answer the question, that does not make one a killer, well at least not to vast majority of people.
  18. The point was that those who responded Switzerland to my earlier querry have obviously never been to switzerland, or they would have known it wasn't a very good answer.
  19. add an "s" and see if you can figure it out. I get tired (or maybe i am just lazy) of adding in smily figures to indicate amusement. So, when something makes me laugh, I'll type lol. Many of the posts on here do make me laugh.
  20. Okay, I get some of your answer, so basically the statistic really doesn't mean that much, since there are a fair bit of assumptions made. I am not trying to draw any analogies or similarities, just wondered how they get those numbers.
  21. actually if you read on, there was a question there, one you failed to answer. I am left to assume you ahve neevr been to Switzerland then, which certainly does not give a lot of credibility to your answer. Hence, I laughed, out loud even.
  22. never said they should be banned, though societies generally agree that dangerous things should be regulated for the greater good of that society. With the reference to the pointy stick, many forms of knives are regulated as well.
