  1. Then Americans must be mighty stupid, cause even with all those guns, you guys keep shooting eachother. Nobody gets shot in Canada? Sounds like the perfect place. The title of this is: "Grief and few solutions in wake of mass Toronto shooting" http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/grief-and-few-solutions-in-wake-of-mass-toronto-shooting/article4424591/ Anecdote != data Firearm homicide rate Canada: 0.5 per 100,000 population Firearm homicide rate U.S.A. : 3.6 per 100,000 population Clearly those numbers are impossible. We don't have any guns to defend ourselves.
  2. Considering they are station on "US soil" and not around the airport on Ukranian soil, I would call this an apples and oranges comparison.
  3. Then Americans must be mighty stupid, cause even with all those guns, you guys keep shooting eachother. Nobody gets shot in Canada? Sounds like the perfect place. Yeah people get shot in Canada. But you would think that without guns to defend ourselves this would be an incredibly violent place. We don't have free speech, don't have a right to carry firearms and we have socialized health care. Pfff, it is almost Somalia.
  4. Only if you are a communist homosexual. "not that there's anything wrong with that" Obviously there is, or you would be getting your gun-rights-cake
  5. There are many things the authors of the Bill of Rights could not foresee. You are deciding which rights belong to which people based on race or religion. Maybe you should get all Muslims to wear a distinguishing mark?
  6. I read on my iPad all the time, except in bright light (outdoors), at which point the Kindle is much, much better. (Never mind that I download my books through tuebl or e-reading mobile, none of which are compatible with kindle)
  7. In all fairness, pain management in pallative care is different from other pain management. Don't really care about addicition issues for the terminally ill.
  8. Regardless of your stance on gun control, more people would have been dead if this guy had used firearms. Or, someone in the crowd would have stopped it cold. Every coin has two sides. Predicting what might have been is a very tricky business. What if it was a suicide bomber? Nerve gas? Train derailment (intentional)? Pressure cooker bomb? Evil people will do evil. Exactly....which is why I always chuckle at people saying that an outcome is inevitable regardless of the availability of tools.
  9. If we were all one generic household, perhaps. We're not. I'm white, do not engage in drug trade, and did not purchase my weapons in response to a direct threat. My probability of being murdered is pretty minute as a result. No one in my household has a history of mental health issues or takes psychiatric drugs (or other mind fucking ones), and the guns were purchased long ago, so the risk of suicide is also far lower than any average would imply. Oh how cute. We are talking about general statistics, and you design one specific scenario just to disagree with me. You also sound like the young skygod explaining why the risks of a pocket rocket do not apply to him.

  12. Yeah... They've been super strong in skating for the longest time.
  13. The Dutch amazed me the most. Incredible how absolutely dominant they are in a single sport.
  14. Congrats Mark & Andrea. Looks like a beautiful day!
  15. It's not about permission. You have the right, feel free to use it. Don't need anybody's permission! Like jumping a much smaller canopy. Feel free to do it, just increases your risk of a rather violent death. People warn you and provide the data, proceed at your own risk. Some people are just very talented hotshot skygod pilots who make all the right decisions. Some aren't. Same situation here. Data shows that adding a gun to your household increases the risk of a household member dying a violent death. You know the risks, you take your chances.
  16. Agreed, better education is the key there.
  17. When you used that as a reply in a thread titled: Does having a gun in the home make you safer?
  18. While I disagree with your view I can at least understand it. What I don't understand are the people who think everyone needs a university education. I agree that not everybody needs a university education. We need our tradespeople, we need cops and garbagemen etc. But society benefits from a good base education. I find that North America absolutely fails at that.
  19. And how exactly do you police that? Incarcerate those who are seen with their biliological children but have waived their parental rights? If parental rights have been waived and there is no legal relationship, does that mean they could marry in the future? What is the default in this marriage contract? Does every marriage now require a contract? What if both partners used birth control, yet the woman got pregnant. The man still gets to walk away? So basically the man has a get out of jail free card, and the woman is left to deal with the physical, emotional and financial aspect of child birth or abortion. And you somehow call this equal? As you said before, I do think the 50's is calling...
  20. You mean: using a gun for self defence, right? Cause I am perfectly free to defend myself, just not free to use a gun. And I don't agree that using a gun for self-defence IS the first human right.
  21. ok - admit it. who did a google search? (I think the fact that she's trying to pay her own way is a lot more moral than trying of forcing taxpayers to do it. I'm also shocked that the usual suspects aren't all over this demanding that higher education should be "free"..((disclaimer - "free" being their normal twisted version of the word which has no relationship to the real meaning of the word)) ) Better education builds a better society and reduces poverty. I believe government should be in the business of providing affordable education, ie a more European model. Yes I understand that makes me a red commie bastard in the eyes of many Americans. Ironically, that proves my point.
  22. But forcing the mother into an abortion because the father can absolve himself from any responsibility is fair? And when 25 years later the father decides that he now wants to have a relationship with his child, does he have to pay up, with interest? Or does the father just get to disappear for the expensive and tough years and then come back? What about a married couple? Can the father waive his parental rights, but not force a divorce? I mean, why should he have to bare any of those costs for her decision to keep the baby? The whole idea is that it wouldn't cost him anything.
