  1. To answer just the question in the title: It depends on the violation. With regards to the story, I can't think of a situation I can justify fighting with a cop to try and save a friend from getting arrested. At least in this part of the world.
  2. Let's talk about McCain. Individually qualified? Very probably so. BUT. One of the hallmarks of a capable manager is capable personnel [email]decisions, especially when it comes to hiring key personnel. More on this in a sec. Lincoln's death gave us Andrew Johnson. McKinley's death gave us Teddy Roosevelt. So as you can see, sometimes sudden mid-term succession works out pretty well, while other times the result is pretty awful. Brings me back to the first part. Had McCain become president he would have been age 72 yrs 5 mos upon inauguration. Plus 4 to 8 years after that. Plus, his body has probably been prematurely aged by the ravages of incarceration and torture; Plus he was, by then, already a cancer survivor. Doesn't take an actuary to see where I'm going with this. I like the guy, and I'm glad he's still alive and ornery. But I have my doubts that he'd have survived 2 full terms of the stress of the presidency. And we know what that woulda meant. Remember what I said about capable managers and hiring key personnel? You tell me how warm and fuzzy a feeling the prospect of Sarah Palin as President of the United States gave most fence-sitters in the US. Try horrified. That was a really incompetent key personnel decision McCain made. Lost him a huge number of votes that would otherwise gone for him (like my fairly conservative Marine vet Dad's vote, for example), and he has to own it. As for Romney? Yeah, equally bright as Obama, maybe better credentialed than him, good track record as a manager and a governor. BUT. He came across like a Big Fat Douche. And he sat on his hands too much during the campaign, presuming he was The Anointed One to unseat the incumbent. Well... that's how Tom Dewey lost his election, that's how John Kerry lost his election, and that's how Mitt lost his. And deservedly so. There will be a 10-point quiz on Friday. The Palin decision showed he was either incredibly stupid, or unable to stand up against "party pressure". Both options aren't really presidential material. He really just disqualified himself.
  3. Really isn't much of a joke if you have to. Yes I forget to "play to the crowd"
  4. If given the option, id prefer to use my abilities combined with my weapon to defend myself over not having it. I hope each day that I never have to use it. You said the police attempted multiple times to peacefully resolve the situation, but in the end violence ensued anyway. Which is exactly why these restrictive laws don't work. Yes it is much better to allow heroes with drinking problems to have guns, so they can murder their ex-wife and her family. She was too stupid to have a gun too I guess.
  5. Pffff, we know where he is. He is somewhere north, south, west, east of the north pole. Pretty sure a person can ONLY be south of the north pole, so that ought to narrow it down. Yeah it was a play on a statement made regarding where WMDs were in Iraq...since it was a joke regarding water boarding an elf. Really isn't much fun when you have to explain it. But yes quade, most of us understand where the north pole is.
  6. Pffff, we know where he is. He is somewhere north, south, west, east of the north pole.
  7. Considering this truck is from Texas, I just want to know if the gun was installed before or after it was stolen.
  8. Probably more so because it is a very low probability shot. http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a283575.pdf
  9. I am indeed not adequate enough to hide in the mountains with my tail between my legs, while trying to attack other people's livelihoods from behind a keyboard. Why? You do a fantastic job of attacking rons beliefs on a daily basis. There is a difference between disagreeing on beliefs on the internet and trying to attack someone's lifelihood in the real world (because you don't agree with his beliefs on the internet)
  10. Except they are now the largest economy in the world. The US is slowly bankrupting itself, but keep on pooring buckets of money into "defence" while complaining about welfare and healthcare. The US will soon lose it's influence. Soft power is gone, or soon will be, hard power will follow in the next decade or two.

  12. Cheny gets my vote any day It doesn't surprise me you would vote for somebody, who would use violence and torture to get false information, to justify going to war, so more people could get killed.
  13. I think you may just find that the conversation gets derailed cause nobody wants to deal with the crazy uncle at the Christmas Party.
  14. Up to them, until they hold a lot of wealth and employ a lot of people. All of a sudden they are "too large to fail" without dragging the entire economy with it.
  15. There has to be some regulation for long term stability. People/organization have shown over and over again that they will chose short term profitability over long term sustainability time and time again.
  16. You can call me woman all you want Ron. From you that is a compliment. If you think of yourself as the Man everybody should be, then being a man in your eyes is the last thing I would possibly want. I hope my son grows up to be everything you are not.
  17. Filter out some of the religious angle, and he's absolutely right. It's not necessarily a 'loss of religion' angle as a 'loss of cojones.' Yes, because as a country, playing bully and big shot around the globe has done wonders.... Really, the answer is grow balls? How about grow brains?
  18. So basically while the police tends to tell us that profiling is very effective, you are telling us not to profile the police?
  19. Yes, because being a Marine means you can break all the local laws in countries around the world and not have to go to jail. So much for personal responsibility. Somebody gets killed while being arrested for selling single cigarettes. The response to that, well he shouldn't have broken the law. But, a Marine goes to jail for breaking the law...and you get your panties in a wad.
  20. No it's the stupid focus and complete resource redirection to a leaf on fire in concrete parking lot while the entire forest is burning down around your town. I am assuming that is not considered fear mongering?
  21. I said: I bolded it this time. Maybe that makes it easier to read?
  22. So none of them got shot for getting their DL after the officer asked for it then? Canada certainly isn't perfect. No country is perfect. But not wanting to fix issues because another country isn't perfect is kind of....well stupid.
  23. I am happy my common sense doesn't include having to worry about getting shot by the police, because I am getting my driver's license. That's some great freedom you guys have.
  24. So let's try and quantify the problem then. How many police shootings were there in the US in 2013? How many ended in severe injuries or death? How many shootings were investigated by the same police department the subject officer belonged to? You keep saying, or at least implying this isn't a problem. So, you must have some numbers?
