  1. I went through multiple SL and AFF courses and found there to be more PLF training on the SL ones. Probably because the instructors had more time to spend on that portion of the jump. There's so much to pack into a single 7-8 hour first jump course for AFF that it's hard to cover everything with as much attention as it should get. PLF practice might be something that could be added to safety day. You could even rent some matts for the day.
  2. So long as they're not calling you "mam" in real life, I wouldn't worry about it
  3. Which part of the advice of the 39 jump guy do you disagree with? Him describing his experience going from a nav to a saber? Him saying he downsized too quickly between the 220 and 210? Him recommending that the other guy read the sim and talk to his instructors?
  4. A 15 jump skydiver likely won't get canopy advice on this site.
  5. Homestead is about an hour, hour 20 from Fort Lauderdale if you take the toll road down. Clewiston is about 1hr 40mins, Sebastian is 2 hours. You'll have to call to find out about the AAD requirements. I don't think Clewiston has them and I know Sebastian doesn't. Each of the DZs has a bit of a different scene and I'd recommend you check out all 3. Miami has a lot of RW guys, but there's a pretty laid back group of FF'ers that go there from time to time. Haven't been to Clewiston in awhile, but there should be some FF'ers there too. Seb I know always has a pretty good FF crowd, especially during the winter when people are down from Cross Keys. I go to Seb on Sundays and you're welcome to carpool some time if you want to be introduced to people there.
  6. Just carry a throw down piece. If the cops show up, you can claim self defense.
  7. "Real" Absinthe never caused stuff like that. http://www.absinthe.se/default.asp?load=http://www.absinthe.se/facts/index.html Aside from maybe the stuff the lower class got to drink which contained all sorts of nasty chemicals used to cheaply create the green coloring.
  8. Yeah. It was the very early 90's, big hair bands still ruled the world, and I had long hair that was perm'd into a slight curl. Happened once then that I can remember.
  9. Did you ask if you could at least work ground crew for them?
  10. I haven't, but there was one time I should've. I basically was in a session, just holding myself back for a long time and in the end just wore myself out, was done but didn't cum. She pretty much freaked out, "But you have to cum." and kept asking if there was something wrong with her. Shit, it was a long night of drinking, it was 5am, I was tired and she had worn me out. And of course she felt there was something wrong with her
  11. Wow dude, some very nice shots. The colors on some of the sunset shots is amazing.
  12. Just for shell scripting. For web stuff, well...
  13. Try this: #!/usr/bin/perl @file_list = ('/tmp/fileone.txt', '/tmp/filetwo.txt', '/tmp/file3.txt'); $LOG = "/tmp/file_deletions.log"; $date = `date`; chomp $date; foreach $file (@file_list) { if(-e $file) { `rm $file`; open(FILE, ">> $LOG") or die "Cannot open $LOG.\n"; print FILE "$date - Deleted $file\n"; close(FILE); } } Change file_list and LOG to be what you want, chmod 700 the script and set cron to run it.
  14. These files in a specific dir with any sort of name?
  15. My first jump ever I was so scared of chickening out, I really wasn't afraid of anything else going on. My second jump a month later I distinctly remember sitting in the plane thinking, "Why am I doing this? I don't have to do this." on the ride up to altitude. I thought that a few more times during student training too, actually a lot of times.
  16. What about Tampa, is that nearby? I'd also like to see the night life somewhere close to the DZ. I want to get familiar with that area.
  17. My Neptune logs my jumps. Every now and then I just toss them into my paper log book so I'll have a decent number count if my Neptune dies. Plus anytime you go to a new DZ they usually want paper logs. If my computer had an IR port, I'd probably just use logbook software and do away with a log book altogether.
  18. Just browse through the site classifieds on this site. Since you don't have to get off the 190 right away, you can take your time looking through the classifieds, get some ideas of canopies, find a really nice deal then buy it. Then once you have that and like it, you can sell the Tri. Just keep an eye on Tri prices while you look for the 170. Also you don't have to limit yourself to the spectre. It's an awesome canopy, but if you find a good deal on a semi-elip 170 you could snatch it up to play around with it for awhile. If you don't like it, keep your 190, sell the 170 and get your spectre.
  19. Buy a used 170, put a couple hundred jumps on it and you can sell it for not too much less than what you paid for it. Canopies are easy to buy and sell.
  20. I think the schools stopped doing it after one or two kids had reactions from the soap and died. It's kind of a stupid punishment anyway. If you want want to punish a kid, take away their Playstation or TV viewing rights.
  21. I'd spend the summer jumping different DZs to see where I'd want to live then either start a business or get a job near that area. But it's not like you have to plan out your life all at once.
  22. Or launching pumpkins out the plane door at 1k trying to bomb cows. Ahh, the good old days of dz.com...
  23. There are two personality extremes of that type in the sport: those who are into skydiving for the personal challenge and those that are into it for the total freedom from that aspect of life, a refuge from all the responsibility and crap they have to deal with every other day of the week. When you try to bring "serious stuff" into their playground it completely kills why they're into the sport, just like how they like to goof off is no fun to you. I think it's just two incompatible personality types. Your best bet would be to find a new group to play with.
  24. You have not been around long enough but there was definitely a time when Sebastian did Beach Jumps every Friday or Saturday Night. The place still is awesome, Wendy has events going on all the time at Sebastian. They were doing sunset jumps onto a golf course every Friday quite recently.
