I would suggest checking Ebay often The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson

I agree with ALL of you about getting a mentor, unfortunately, everytime I have asked on dz.com and the base boards about a local mentor in my area, no one seems to respond and I am pretty sure there has to be someone around, but no one has answered my call. I have asked around my DZ and no ones knows because there are no base jumpers at my home dz. I have been wanting to do some ground work but since I cant find any locals, I am shit out of luck. So if anyone can help me find a local mentor in my area, I would greatly appreciate it. I dont want any flaming, and i understand your concerns, but I am not going to go jump as soon as I get a canopy. I am also saving up for a first jump course. I understand that this is a dangerous sport, but please dont criticize me for asking how my gear works, I am just curious and was asking a simple question. I just received an almost new (30 jumps) GS Vision. Can someone post the closing instructions for the container? I have not made any BASE jumps, but I am compiling gear (dont have a canopy yet) and want to know as much as possible about how to assemble it and how it functions. Also, on the shrivel flap, the bottom part, I assume is where the bridle is attatched to the pilot chute, but I cannot figure out what the top part attaches to. I remember seeing the clip on Real TV. The narrator was saying as they were falling that the video guy was filming the other headdown dude doing "death defying freefall maneuvers" which is whuffo talk for he was attempting to do headdown and was flailing like a mofo. There is a Vision for sale in the classifieds, and I need to make an offer to the seller. He is only selling it with the risers and toggles, and I need to know a good price I can offer him for the h/c. In the review section of blinc, it states that the base price for the Vision is $450. The container that is for sale has approximately 25 jumps. What would be a fair asking price for this container? Canopies make alot of noice regardless of no slider or with slider. First time I ever heard canopies opening was at WFFC 2002. I never realized how much noise they make on opening. I am going to put blackberry on the center cell and stabilizers. The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson

Probably a good idea to get it then. I am also contemplating an all black canopy with a dark colored center cell such as dark blue, gray, purple. The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson

I weigh 130, with approx. 20 pounds of gear under an Ace 240 would give me a wingloading of .625. Ive read that bigger is better in base, so ill go with the advice from the experts. I am looking at an Ace, because that is what I have heard to be one of the best all around base canopies out there. On the order form for the Ace, one of the options is black dacron suspension lines ($75), what is the purpose of this option and is it worth the money to get it? Thanks guys, for the replies. I was trying to figure which canopy size to get the correct wingloading for my first set of gear. Looks like im a getting a 220 sq ft canopy. How much does a regular base rig with canopy weigh? The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson
-
I am 5'6 so I know about how uncomfortable those big rigs were. I would suggest a Mirage, because they make rigs for people that are 5'8 and shorter. They end up making the rig thicker, but shorter so it doesnt hang over your butt. I once had a Javelin and it was very uncomfortable (and it was made custom for me) under canopy and on the ground and would hand over my butt making it very discomforting.Unfortunately if you want a 190, the smallest "S" size that Mirage makes is for a 150. This is something that I have wondered about as well, because I live in Miami, and since Miami is not your ordinary southern city since it is predominantly hispanic, most jumpers at Skydive Miami are white Americans, and most live in Broward County (north of Miami-Dade County). Only a few of us regulars are Cuban or hispanic which bothered me since more than half of Miami is of Latin descent.. There have been two blacks who I have seen graduate from AFF, one comes around every now and then but i barely see him. Other than that, lots of latins and blacks have done tandems but few seem to be interested in staying in the sport. Maybe the reason us Cubans dont jump is because most thinking that crossing the Strait of Florida on an inner tube is dangerous enough and dont want to push their luck. sorry i couldnt resist The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. My first cutaway happened on my old Stiletto 135 which had approximately 1000 jumps(I had put 200 on it), and on opening 1 and a half cells on the left hand side blew out. Amazingly it wasnt diving or turning just floating there and realizing that i wasnt even going to attempt a controlability check i chopped it. I am of the opinion of not going cheap when buying a reserve, because it is your last chance. Spend the extra and get a Techno, PD , Tempo reserve. The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson

Esclava, i live in miami. me and my ex of 2 years broke up mainly because of skydiving, so i know its tough to find that special someone who enjoys the same sport as you do. I was only planning on going that year for a few days, but when i heard the jet was confirmed i asked for a few more days off from work, just to jump the jet. Regardless, wffc2002 was a shitload of fun, and i wish i could go back this year, but hopefully i will be able to go in 2004. If they say that the jet will be there dont believe them until it shows up. Last year, on the website the jet was "confirmed", and durng the convention leading up to the day the jet was supposed to show up, they said it was going to be there, but the day it was supposed to show up, some "insurance problems" came up.
