It was on Fox News last night around 7:30PM EST being told as the highest bridge jump in the world about 700'. Got me thinking about the one day legal span in the eastern US which is much higher than that. Goes to show that some reporters need to do a bit more research. Me and my friend (not a BASE jumper) are flying into Barcelona to drive up to Vichy, France to go to the Espace Boogie from August 8 to 15. If anyone knows of any sites (I am thinking of S's) please send me a PM. But I am sure there will be a few BASE jumpers at the boogie. I weigh 145 (lost 5 and and working on losing 5 more), so I am in the reccommended wing loading for the canopy BUT I have decided to err on the safe side, so my next rig will be at least a 240. THe problem with the area i live in is heavily populated and most A are in residential or commecial area and for the most part are 300 and less, usually freestanding with lots of rods and other stuff sticking off of it, so for now I am not comfortable doing those types of objects until I get more experienced and consistent with my spring launches. There is one other jumper who lives 5 mins away from me but he is as inexperienced as I am (has 10 more jumps than me) and most from the potato state bridge. Until he gets more time away from work to check out some sites, it will be me on my own. Yes, I did. I have already jumped with him once, but Im trying to find something closer within the tri county area. The contact lives 2 hours away. Oh, and thanks again for getting me in contact with him. The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. If anyone knows of any local objects in the area to please send me a PM. I have searched endlessly and I cannot find anything near me that is not high risk (I am talking about As not Bs since I am not ready for those yet but the 411 would be appreciated so when Im ready). The closest experienced jumper is more than 2 hours away. So if anyone has ever been to the area please send me a PM. Thanks Brit. I have a group pic of me with the houston crew and a pic of you and Tim's linked exit. Does anyone know a website that will allow me to post a bunch of pics up? DZ.com wont let me because the files are too big. The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson

I have a GS Vision in which soon i will need to replace the shrivel flap because the velcro is wearing out fast. As far as I know Dennis McGlynn is longer making Visions so who can I go to, to make me a new shrivel flap? Dude, if I didnt leave with as many jumps as I got in, I would not have had the confidence I had last night to jump an A. It wouldnt be as easy for me to travel to TF since I live in the opposite end of the country. Johnny totally rocked (well, except for that one moment at Chili's where he didnt let me drink my margarita right before we went to jump).

Also, Johnny Utah found a camera on Saturday where we were packing which is right by where we had the BBQ. If anyone thinks the camera is theirs email : johnny@johnnyutah.com The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. He was making a reference to my packing, not about a particular jump. He told me I needed to be a little neater on my packjob, which has improved tremendously since. I think the ratio was a good learning tool, because if one of the other students did something wrong we would all learn from it and correct ourselves not to do what the other did. Johnny paid alot of inidividual attention to each and every one of us. Johnny pulled me to the side away from the others and told me I had to correct a certain problem which I had and which I have corrected. I dont know if he did that with anyone else, but it sure made me feel like he was watching out for his students. At the end of each day we would sit down and watch videos of the days jump and critique us on it. I think 5 to 1 should be the max, but Johnny handled the 6 of us very well, and I have no complaints about the way he taught and instructed us. In fact, if someone approaches me about BASE and I believe they would be qualified for it, I would refer them to Johnny Utah's course. Well, Ive had less than 2 hours of sleep with no thanks to State Troopers who shut down about 80 miles of a very major highway. I had to go around the detour which extended my trip by 3 hours. But "Bob" (I dont know if he wants his name in the forum so we will call him "Bob") waited very patiently for me which I graciously thanked him for it. We were planning on making a minimum of 2 jumps but since the detour ate up much of that time if was cut short to one. Bob took me to my very first A as well as my first night BASE jump. He took me up to 400' which is my lowest so far since my previous 17 were off the legal span in the NW. I was planning on taking a 2 sec delay but I wussed out and only did 1 sec (I need to count slower). The winds were going straight down the wire, but were very calm on the ground like 2-3 knots and at 400' they were around 8. Opening was right on heading so I set up my approach and slid in for a landing. Bob went up to 800' and did about a 5 sec Birdman flight. For the record, Bob, if you are reading this I owe you 2 cases of beer. Now this is becoming a problem, I made a 300+ mile, 6 hour roundtrip drive to do one jump, but I was smiling the whole way back feeling very alive. Is this normal or should I seek counseling for my new addiction? Should I sell my skydiving rig and get another BASE rig? Have Fun and Don't Die - Johnny Utah

Mike, you posted the review I was going to give. Much props to Johnny Utah whos course is top notch. His course is a week compared to most manufacturers whos courses are only 3 days. Since it was very windy, I dont think 3 days is enough for BASE. I am not trying to bash any other courses, but realisticly 3 days is way too little time to learn how to BASE. Mike, where's my margerita? It was fun hanging with you. Hope to see you at an exit point at some other time in the future. I arrived last night back home after spending a week at the legal span in Idaho, and tonight I am hooking with a jumper tonight to go to my first A. I am really psyched even though I have to drive for 2 hours I knew this was going to be addicting but its all i can think about now. I have had a grin on my face ever since I got back knowing of the new challenges that are waiting for me. I will later post my review of Johnny Utah's FJC for others who would be interested in his course. It is definately worth it. I will post more pictures as soon as I get them developed.
