Memorial Day Boogie (cross posted from the BASE Board)
ojf1982 replied to JohnnyUtah's topic in Archive
Yup, I was there when Russel did it. That guy has alot of heart. It is just a reminder that the limitations one has are the those that one places. The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson -

I would like to give a BIG thanks to Zennie, Brittany, and Todd for letting me do GC for them. This was my first hands on experience with BASE and I cant wait until I take my FJC at Perrine. 14 days and counting..... Maybe the manual is stating the size in cubic inches not square footage of the canopy since different manufacturers using different methods of measuring. The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson

I will be traveling to Houston on Monday for some business, and will be staying there until Saturday afternoon and am looking for locals to tag along so I can do some GC. I will be taking the JU's FJC at the bridge in Idaho in late May. I would like to get some hands on experience, before I head out to Idaho. I will be staying in Alvin TX (about 30 mins away) with some relatives. If a local can PM me, I would greatly appreciate it. I will be arriving at Twin Falls on Sunday, May 23 @ 2:50 pm. Is there anyone arriving at the same time or willing to pick me up at the airport? I will help pay for the gas. I am also taking the FJC with Johnny Utah. If anyone wants to split the cost of a hotel room let me know. The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson

Dumbest thing you did skydiving

I havent admitted it until now, but here it goes. The ones who were at the PST Beach boogie in Panama City in 2003 will remember. On my brand new Stiletto 120, I wanted to show off to the whuffo spectators, so I whipped a 180 front riser turn too low, and when I realized I was too low, I tried to stab out of it , but couldnt and hit the water painfully hard while the canopy was still in the dive and flipped through my lines. People started running towards me, but I got up before they got to me, and to their amazement I was unhurt (except for a bruised ego). They had thought I had either broken something or should have died. I was so embarrased about the incident, then I packed up and drove back home 2 days early. I learned my lesson and from then on, I have been alot more careful about what I do under canopy. I just booked my flight into twin falls, and just got off the phone with Johnny to confirm that I will be attending the course. If any one wants to split the cost of a hotel/motel shoot me an email or PM. I hope to see everyone else over there. There right. SM is not in Miami but in Homestead. Depending on what day and time, it is about 30 to 45 mins drive from Miami intl airport to Skydive Miami. Do the route that Stacy suggested, you ll be able to hit most of the big and little DZs in Florida. Maybe I gave out the wrong impression, but I am contemplating his course because it is the most cost-effective because it includes a lot more than most other courses I have read up on. JU's course is a week compared to the rest who are only 3 days. I have received alot of replies about JU and nothing but praised has been said about him. So far, it looks like I am going to go with JU. The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson

Can someone tell me what is the closest hotel/motel to the bridge in TF? I am planning on going there to do a FJC during Memorial day week. I am thinking of doing the Johnny Utah course since it is the least expensive. Does anyone have any experience with his course? If youre right on the description I might know who you are talking about and if it is, then it was him. He stole another packers guitar and it was probably to support his illegal habits. If he has started packing there then I would suggest everyone keep their eyes out for him. I didnt think of that. He might be talking about San Jose, CA ? The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson

I travel alot of Costa Rica, and there is only one dropzone in San Jose and its a small club, who call each other up once a month to jump. They call an airport and hire a pilot for a few hours a day. If you want to learn how to skydive which is ESSENTIAL for base, then the closest dropzone which runs every week is in Panama. It probably does rotate. It was an advertisement for some kind of software company that showed a guy tracking away from a big wall and opening. The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson

This article has nothing to do with BASE, but play the McData advertisement in the article and it shows someone tracking away from a big wall. http://www.aol.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/dec2003/nf2003123_0465_db061.htm edit: clicky ~ TA The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S.
