I received an email from a potential buyer that she was intered in buying my rig that I have for sale on dz.com She told me that if I could calculate shipping to the Republic of Benin. To me this sounded fishy, so I looked up sangiro's posts about the several scams that have already taken place. And one of the emails that sangiro has listed ends with the same domain name of @fastermail.com that this person is sending me emails from. I told her that I will only accept paypal because of her location, which she then replied that she can send it via Western Union. Which I replied back, that that was unacceptable. I saw video which was made by Iro and Jeb about a jump they did off a hotel. They were going to be charged with tresspassing but once it was known that they had a room in that hotel they couldnt press those charges. Then they tried to stick reckless endangerment on them, but Jeb pointed out to his video that showed no one was below them when he jumped and no one was in the landing area. They were released because the cops couldnt pin any charges on them. I saw it on the ride up to the Espace Boogie. We had to take a detour because of all the construction, but that bridge is massive even from the distance I saw it at. I had my rig in the car, but decided that getting arrested in France, especially since Im a US citizen with an Arab sounding name, was not in my best interest. I went into this 300' building that I had previously been in because my friend has a friend that lives in there. So I went back Saturday to check things out more. I passed by the front desk without the rent a cop saying anything, then went to the top floor then to the stairwell to find out the door to the roof is left unlock and with no alarms or cameras. The landing are was good, albeit it was the street, but the winds that night were not favorable. I go back the next day with a friend, who follows me to the top, but since he has alot less canopy experience he decides not to jump, so he goes back downstairs and calls me when he is in position. So I had to hop down to a balcony below me, fortunately no one was living there, and then to my disbelief I realized that there was another balcony that stuck out even more, so I jumped to that one, and even though the curtains were closed, I could tell that people were living there, fortunately they werent home. Over the railing, 3-2-1- CYA...I pitched as soon as I sprung out, opening on heading, in between two light post, turn 90 right to see an SUV coming straight at me, I veered slight right, landed on the sidewalk, then my canopy fell on a tree. My friend rushes to pull the canopy from the tree, we then run to the car then I threw myself in the back and we headed to a bar 2 blocks away to have some beers. I could barely fall asleep that night as the adrenaline was still pumping through me. Finally after a 2 month hiatus Im back. See you all at BD! Can you post a link here? The DZ I mentioned is the only one I know about. I visit CR regularly, and my friend lives there (who travels every few weeks to Miami to jump) and that is the only one I know about, and he would have told me if there was anything new going on over there. Leave your rig at home as the only thing resembling a DZ there is a small club which only organizes itself once a month, sometimes 2 months, that rents a cessna and pilot for a day. I just came back from a trip to Europe where I stopped at the dropzone in Empuriabrava where I actually saw a 7 year old little girl doing a tandem and also kids that were 10 and 12 year olds doing tandems. I was to say the least very suprised to see kids that young doing tandems. Alot different mentality than is here in the states. I also took JU's course with Mike (donkeyboy) and all I have to say that it was all worth it and I came out with more knowledge than I thought I would have, albeit, I still have lots to learn. If anyone is contemplating taking Johnny's course, it is definately worth it and you will not be dissapointed.
