Yes, the elastic lumbar support is easily removed and can be replaced in the field as well as the fancy pants. As to the life span of it, I have no clue and it would depend on how often you jump. I just got the G4 and it is extremely comfortable. The g3 is comfortable as well but the G4 is superior in every aspect. the elastic supports really conforms to your body allowing for alot of flexibility and without digging in to the side of your body. I have not bothered taking them off, because I dont see a reason to, but you can take them off if need be. I have attatched another pic. Under canopy, it would constrict my legs to the point that it was almost unbearable. I got to demo a regular G3 a while ago and loved it. I tried on the G4 at the WFFC this year and was hooked ever since. So I sold my rig excluding cypres and bought a used stiletto and pd-r and bought the G4. She has arrived and 3 weeks ahead of schedule. Kudos to Mirage Systems for creating such a sweeet h/c system. It was soo much more confortable than my Javelin. Because it seems they connect the transmitter to the risers, can it impede in cutting away from your main, like getting caught in the 3 ring release system? Well it doesnot look like it is going to happen, I just got the call back from the FSDO office and he said it is over Miami which is congested airspace. FIU is right over the approach to Miami International Airport, Also without the PRO rating it would be very difficult to get approval for such a jump. I know a friend of a friend who owns a C182, also whatever plane I get if I get to jump will be paid by the school.
