No shit. I think it would make an interesting thread topic to discuss why so many right wing posters on these boards have such a flagrant disregard for correct spelling. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

You're right. What we need are more sports with countless time outs and commercial breaks while men in tights slap each other on the ass during their respite. Those are the games that real men play. By the way, haven't you made that same post at least a couple times before? Y'all postwhores are way too predictable. Try this entertaining video on for size, perhaps this may be your inroad to liking the game. You're right. I was disgusted with how they played in this tourney. Italy are world champs but they're in the wilderness, and they ain't gonna do squat in the WC next year with a coach that has become stubborn and arrogant, insisting on very lame call-ups, " aging veterans & no new blood, and a 4-3-3 formation that doesn't suit Italy's style of play. I can just imagine the smile on your face. @Erroll: If we beat the best team in the world, we can beat the second best team in the world! Our defense played out of its mind yesterday -- it was a pleasure to watch. If we can keep that up, we can win. Go USA! Okay, I know many here think soccer sucks, that's fairly well established... ...but today the USA beat record-holding, European Champions Spain today in the Confederations Cup and will be in the final this weekend. That's no small feat. A few days ago, the USA was all but out of the tournament after a 3-1 loss to Italy and a 3-0 loss to Brazil in the group stages. Then, with some help from Brazil winning 3-0 on Sunday and the USA beating Egypt 3-0, they made it through to the semifinals. Today they faced 35-games in-a-row undefeated, on a 15-game winning streak (this is a record), 2008 European champions Spain, and beat them handily 2-0. Not by luck, but by playing a very solid game from beginning to end. I call this a 500-lb gorilla because I'm surprised to see no mention of it here. It's huge news because USA pretty much never makes it to the final of an intercontinental soccer tournament. Even for those not that interested in the sport, you may want to have a look at USA play (likely Brazil again) in the final, because they're playing very well. And you might actually get turned on to the game. Not to mention this bodes well for the team in next year's world cup. Viva el futbol! -

Law Would Ban Gun Sales Near Day Care Centers
masterblaster72 replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
In light of the all the schoolyard shootings that have occurred over the years, the last thing we want to do is restrict toddlers and youngins from purchasing firearms to protect themselves from future shootings. Children should be able to buy a pack of lemonheads during recess and a revolver if they so wish. Anything less is shitting on the second amendment and therefore on our American way of life. So I voted that this is a bad law. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. -

So now waterboarding has become "some water in the face". Redefining words doesn't work on this forum. Ok. I don't consider waterboarding torture. Waterboarding is water in the face, btw. See the Jesse Ventura interview upthread. Personally I take the word of someone (and a non-partisan someone at that) who has been waterboarded (he said in no unclear terms that it is in fact torture) over the word of someone like yourself (a guy who hasn't been waterboarded, who clearly has bias). I think it's a weakness when a law violates common sense logic. For example, if I'm driving at 2am and a light is red for a ridiculously long time and there's no one around for blocks, I should not get a ticket if I run that red because my violation of the law harmed no one, nor did it even have the potential to harm anyone. I think logic, reason and common sense should be above the laws written in some township's books in many situations. I have a skydiving friend from Israel who told me that often people get away with speeding in that country because officers allow offenders to reason and talk with them. I like that, and wish it were more like that here (sorry, I just can't let go of your other thread relating to driving). I think we're much too strict with the laws for even the most minor things in this country. edited to add: forgive me if I completely misunderstood the question, I just interpreted 'rule of law' as I saw it and not by a more formal legal definition, if there is one. Here's a crazy idea. Don't make the punishment a monetary fine. Make the punishment time in jail. That way, someone's wealth is irrelevant. The drunk-driving millionaire can sit in jail side-by-side with the drunk-driving vagabond. That's equal punishment for equal crimes. You said it better than I did. Nice one. You heard wrong. Quotas for any sort of citations or arrests are illegal and have been for some time. That is true for all 50 states. What departments will look at are overall law enforcement activities (or stats). Many times they are looking at an officer's total law enforcement actions, which include calls for service (dispatched calls), self iniated activities (checking on suspicious persons, traffic stops, etc), hours worked, traffic stops conducted (not just citations issued) and hours worked for the given amount of time. Departments aren't looking for a specific number of citations. Sometimes departments want Y number of documented contacts with the public. That can be welfare concerns, traffic stops, or any number of many different things. If a department states an officer has to generate X number of citations or arrests, then that department is violating federal law. That also opens the department up to a large amount of civil liability in terms of civil rights violation lawsuits. What do you think, do you think a department will still issue a quota? Did departments used to have quotas? Sure, officers also used to carry leather saps in some areas, but times have changed significantly. Thank you for your insight, and I'm glad I'm wrong on the quota thing. Could you explain the purpose of a monetary fine on traffic violations and how they function as a deterrent to speeding etc in a way that the points system does not? As stated earlier, I think that eventually losing privilege to drive is enough of a deterrent to committing traffic violations. @metalslug: Agreed. Here in the USA I think there are speed limits in non-residential areas of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York that serve only one purpose: to bring in revenue for the state via speeding tickets. @nerdgirl: IMHO, I don't think anything could be more effective than taking away one's privilege to drive. Maybe I'm a bit hard-headed, but I just don't see any deterrent value in a fine. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Interesting thread topic. I think this is unfair, and justice should be applied equally for anyone who drives drunk. Expanding on that, I don't think any kind of fine is justified for this kind of offense. I see a traffic fine as a type of government-sanctioned extortion. I'm of the opinion that anyone caught speeding should accumulate points on his/her license, and done enough times that person should have his/her license suspended (as is the case already in addition to the fines) -- no fine needed. Any attempt by the government to get money out of the offender to me doesn't make much sense considering that citizens already pay taxes to put police on the road and pay their salaries. I heard that state troopers have a monthly quota to meet as far as speeding tickets go. It is hard for me to see this as anything other than a legal equivalent of a mafia street thug shakedown. Anyhow, I don't think the $109,000 fine is fair. It's outrageous. Instead, that person should have his/her license revoked or do time in a cell for a while -- that's enough of a deterrent. I voted "Less fair." Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Skydivers Annoy neighbors - Press clipping
masterblaster72 replied to PhreeZone's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm sorry to see this news. If I recall correctly, Sky's the Limit had to move out of Sussex, NJ (where I did my first tandem and started my AFF) because of very irritable neighbors. So the owners made an even better dz at East Stroudsburg (it really is a fantastic dz). I hope STL wins this dispute. I'd hate to see them forced to close shop again. Personally, I find your galactocentricity to be quite distasteful. One day we might need to move to a planet in Andromeda if we find no other habitable ones in our galaxy once our sun eats up our solar system. It's attitudes like yours that cause disharmony and chaos in the cosmos. I might, however, buy into some form of quadrantocentricity if gorphons from parallel universes were to warp themselves into our galaxy via the unseen higher dimensions and take jobs and siphon welfare benefits to their alternate brane of reality. Fortunately that hasn't happened...yet. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. -
Here's what I'm doing, for example: - canceled a week's vacation, with no refund or credit (tix were only $377 r/t). I'd rather not fly twice in one week with something like this going around since I often catch a cold/flu after long flights. - walking to and from work rather than taking public transportation. - washing my hands frequently and using hand sanitizer at my desk when at work - blowing my nose after walking in public places - washing my nasal passages with saline solution when I get home from work. - opening doors with the top of the sleeve of my shirt rather than using my bare hands - avoiding use of public bathrooms Might seem neurotic/hypochondriac to many but taking these steps gives me peace of mind. I don't think anyone is suggesting we just brush it aside...but let's tone down the 'sky is falling' media hype. On another board for travel agents I read that somewhere in Washington state a client's kids were banned from returning to school for 7 days because they just returned from Mexico. Please. So in the name of not buying into some "sky is falling" hype, do you think it is worth the risk for those kids to go to school and risk contaminating other kids? Personally, I don't think it is. Better safe than sorry. *** I think it would be interesting to discuss why this most basic element of common courtesy is lost on so many people. Nothing irks me more than seeing someone spray their germs in a closed and crowded space. Since I don't watch television news, I don't know how sensational coverage of this sickness has become. From what I've seen on the internet, it doesn't seem to me that we're overreacting. Better safe than sorry -- peoples' lives are possibly at stake here, and there is a large number of people with no concept of manners or consideration (not covering their mouths when coughing in public places especially on buses/trains/planes, etc), which makes them a threat to the health of others.
