1. I wouldn't care as long as; 1) They met zoning and building codes. 2) Noise pollution restrictions were firmly enforced. The absolute last thing I'd want is a 100 foot speaker tower built next to my house blasting calls to prayers every morning at fucking dawn and four more times throughout the day. And yes, that is the real purpose of a minaret. They way it looks and the religion it stands for is the least of my issues. Not to mention that in some towns in Italy and Holland for example, Muslim immigrant communities build mosques, conduct their daily tower calls, and then later complain about the church bells and religious statues in town as an offense to their religion. When my parents were immigrants in Switzerland and Germany in the 60's, they respectfully followed the customs of their host countries that were kind enough to give them the opportunity to earn a living away from their abject poverty in Italy. If the host country of a Muslim immigrant does not want minarets built, there are other countries in Europe that do allow them. They should feel free to move to those countries. And for those complaining about religious intolerance, please do the same in regard to Saudi Arabia, where Christians cannot go to church -- because none are allowed to be built there. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
2. I see the signs here in Zurich "ja zum minaret verboten"...if that's what the majority of the country wants, then they absolutely should be banned. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
3. Thank you -- that's precisely the point of my first post in this thread -- and you stated it far more tactfully than I did. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
4. Just finished listening to their first release in over ten years. It's terrific from start to finish, and stays true to their old sound, even vocally without Layne Staley. Jerry Cantrell is brilliant and if you haven't heard this album or his solo work I highly recommend giving them a listen.
5. I agree 100%. This is why I don't vote Republican or Democrat. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
6. The diff is that I define mine in detail, you just, "wow" yours, as if you're at a deficit as for what to say. Not even close. The difference is in your world insults are beneficial. In mine they're detrimental. Yeah, like telling someone he seems happy that 12 soldiers are dead. But in the spirit of this thread, I won't call you a hypocrite. Taking such a horrific event (within minutes of the event unfolding I might add) and using it in such a way to push a political agenda while also utilizing sarcasm... I calls it like I sees it my friend. I didn't PA anyone in that post, and you did. That's the point, plain and simple. Well I don't consider it a pa but I empathize that you do. It was an observation and the more you continue on, the more I feel like I called it right. At least one other member agreed so in the future you might want to consider how your posts will be perceived before clicking the submit button. Furthermore, I never claimed I don't use pa's so your accusation of hypocrisy is ridiculous. I simply followed warpedskydiver's lead. Meanwhile you continue to shit all over it. One thing I can claim is I have never been given a warning nor have been banned by a moderator here. I am generally a nice and respectful person but I also will be the first to stand up and call bullshit and the way you started that thread was complete and utter bullshit. Own it. Well how about that, I've never been banned either, and when I came close to it, I was man enough to retract my statement. And I have no problem to "shit all over" a bullshit "let's all be happy" thread of someone who sends me a subtle death threat the day before. Last word is all yours pal; I have a day to enjoy away from my computer. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
7. Wow -- that was one very disturbing interview with that priest. Talk about "deafening slience" -- where are the priests denouncing this one (let alone the pope himself)? Antisemitism is older than the catholic church itself and rotten to the core. If the holocaust didn't teach people to leave it behind, I don't think anything will. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

10. Says the fellow who sent me a subtle death threat by private message less than 24 hours ago. I've found that even the most neutral and well-meaning comments on this forum draw venom from all kinds who don't agree with others' posts. And not to my credit, I've let that make me a rather cynical poster here as of late. Forgive me for saying this, but I don't think you're exactly one to lead by example. Though it's never too late to start. I'm game. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
11. Just die? Are you sure they shouldn't first be waterboarded with battery acid, impaled on a telephone pole, then hung by their own intestines and stabbed ad infinitum with an icepick and made to eat raw sausage McGriddles for the rest of their lives if they live through it? I think you're being way too soft on crime. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
12. Oh yeah? Well why don't you walk that talk -- I'm ready to take it offline. That's right, I'm calling you out. C'mon tuff guy let's go. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
13. ... I'm sure you've all heard the news so I'm posting the big story in hope of scoring my first thread to catch fire. 18. That looks like a great read, thanks for the link. The general I thought of after reading the last sentence... ...was Hannibal. Along these lines, I think he would be triumphant today as well since he was a master at transcending limitations. 19. I give you Guy Gabaldon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Gabaldon From what I read so far on the subject, my favorite tactician of this kind is Fabius Maximus. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
20. Been reading a lot of history these days and I thought this would make for an interesting discussion. I know it's not a simple question since being a great commander involves a lot of different aspects of leadership and each leader's circumstances vary. The choices are suggestions, and I'm sure there are plenty that deserve to be on the list. Who do you choose and why? 21. That would be called "working to make a living." Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
