  1. I do all 3, I'd say skydiving is by far the best for the "rush" feeling. Scuba is awesome for the "exploration" side (you get to see such awesome stuff and go crazy places at times), and climbing is definitely the best for accomplishment (at least over the day-to-day skydiving). Now doing a world record like bill was talking about, that's completely different. I'd just say day-to-day jumps don't compare w/ the stuff you can do in just a "normal" climb. However, when it comes down to it, I choose skydiving!
  2. That's great...hope it works out well and catches on.
  3. Kerry and Edwards are taking a stroll around Capitol Hill when he meets a little girl carrying a small basket with a blanket over it. Curiously, Kerry asks the girl, "What's in the basket?" She replies, "New baby kittens," and she opens the basket to show him. "How nice" says Kerry. "What kind are they?" The little girl says, "Democrats." Kerry smiles and pats the little girl on the head, and they continue on. About three weeks later, Kerry, walking around Capitol Hill with another Congressional colleague, sees the same little girl again with the same basket. Kerry says to his colleague, "Watch this; it's very cute". As they approach the little girl. Kerry asks the girl, "How are the kittens?" She says, "Fine." He then asks, "Again, what kind of kittens are they?" This time she replies, "Republicans." Somewhat abashed, Kerry says, "Three weeks ago you said they were Democrats!" "I know," she says, "But now their eyes are open."
  4. Well, sounds like it helped her, but sorry it tore you guys apart. You did all you could. I think it's kind of a crock though, because I'm fairly religious, and on the coservative side. And I'll just come out and say that I don't necessarily agree w/ how you choose to live your life, but I sure as hell don't have the right to judge you or anyone else for being different from me. Personally, I have a good friend who's gay. Despite my disagreement w/ him on this issue and my conservative, religious nature, we're still friends and I see no problem with that. We never fight about it, we never get in arguments over it...we just leave it alone an don't dwell on it. He's a great guy and always will be in my book. We shouldn't care what everyone else does, we should care what we do.
  5. The guy's a figurehead and nothing more. Just like the statement above says, his ideology will continue no matter what his status. In fact, I could see those jihadist using his capture or death as a reason for rallying and trying to do something even greater "for him" or some shit like that. They're all sacks of shit and all need to be killed, even if it's one by one and out of order. Don't care what # they are, just care if they're 6 ft under.
  6. The kid says they were all off at work, but yet knows what happened as if he was there? The story's word ouf mouth from a kid. You think they're going to actually say, "yeah, my mom rushed the soldier, he felt threatened and shot." Of course he's going to say how the soldier ruthlessly murdered her. Point being, no one knows the truth behind it and an American soldier does not just shoot an unarmed woman b/c she spit at him. She probably made a move, maybe reached inside her clothing, or maybe just made a "violent" move at him...either way, when you're in Iraq in a small house and some person in long clohthing (who could easily be hiding something) comes at you...you shoot.
  7. In a self defense situation, that's exactly what I'm saying.
  8. Well, you may be right on that. It would make sense to not publicly say, "we teach to kill!" However, you know all those CCW instructors are thinking the same thing...they'll kill a guy in an alley before they'll shoot him in the knee and run. And yeah, it's the perp's fault if he dies from my .40 HP rounds.
  9. For some missions, not all. That's what I think. Ah, touche!
  10. This is the first and probably only time I'll agree w/ Eagle...but he's right. If you're pointing a gun at someone or something, you'd better be planning on shooting that someone or something.
  11. Ha, good one on the ejection seats...you sayin' it wouldn't make a cool story? Hey, we're not a bunch of suicidal nutjobs. Of course I don't want to die, and would rather a plane get destroyed, me get out, and go on with my job/life. However, I would rather do my job for real and not behind a desk. That's just my mentality. I want to get out and do it, not be 1000 mi away. I can do my job better at the location then I can 1000 mi away. If it means more risk, well I don't care. Sure I want to live, but not if it means sitting in a trailer for the rest of my career. This sentiment is not isolated.
  12. Diver's post proves 100% what bullshit our justice system is. Jury's are just filled with idiots a lot of the time...as seen in his relative's case. I've read several stories of people killing someone in their own home, and then getting at least sued by the family, if not given prison time. Shame...
  13. Yeah that would be nice, but thanks to the bs justice system, we can't have that luxury. Because yes, crippling the guy for the rest of his life would be a good lesson, but you'll be sitting in jail while he learns it.
  14. Any wounding of a person will certainly get you sued and could very well get you put in prison. You have much less of a chance going to prison when it's your word against a dead guy's. Change "Any reputable firearms training course" to "Any IDEALISTIC reputable firearms training course" and you got yourself a deal. Truth is, if you shoot someone, wound them...guaranteed you will be sued and lose. And, a very good chance you go to jail. Dead men can't sue and can't put you in prison (sure there are exceptions, but far less chance of either happening when you're the only giving a side of the story). I'm not saying you can just get away with popping anyone you want, but when it comes to someone rushing you behind a movie theatre or something like that...it's better to kill him.
  15. So it's the govt's fault then? Don't know if you're saying that bill, but that's certainly what eagle and others are saying. And I call bullshit on that one. If he's born "not as smart" and makes bad decisions, it's sure as hell not society's or the govt's fault. He had an equal chance, he just fucked it up by making poor decisions. Maybe he didn't have as high of an IQ, but you don't have to go to MIT to be a success. He could have made good choices and maybe he wouldn't make it past middle managment, but that would be considered a success for him. However, he made bad choices. He had the chance to do something good, he screwed the pooch.
  16. Here's a nice story for all you kids...one of my friends was born in Haiti, no richer than the poorest, homeless person in America. He and his mother had jack shit. Well, long story short, he grew up, worked his ass off and made enough money to come to America. He then worked his ass off to afford college. He now is a computer engineer who makes well over 100k a year. This guy went from shit to prosperous with no help. If he can do it, anyone can do it. So yes, if a person has a shitty life, it's their fault. I realize bad stuff can happen that you don't have control over, but overall, it's your fault for not fighting through it and making something of yourself. It's not the govt's fault. P.S. He never took a cent from Uncle Sam...no welfare, no nothing. I really look up to him; people who complain about how they got screwed could really learn a thing or two from this guy.
  17. Well seeing as we're moving out of Saudi, I don't think they'll be getting raptors anytime soon, and by that I mean never (yes I know never say never, but this one's pretty much in the bag unless they do a 180). Of course it does. But does that mean the USAF will be replaced by robots soon? Nope. If the mil saw a need for UAVs for that role in the "near" future, we wouldn't be just starting to put out billlions worth of raptors.
  18. We signed up, so we know what the risk is, and so do our families. Some people just choose to make sacrificies...it's their choice to do so.
  19. Rookie, this is an easy fix. You shoot TO KILL. Never never wound the guy. It's better he's dead then alive. We can all think bullshit self defense laws for that one. If it WASN'T for a ridiculous system, I'd think about just injuring someone to subdue them. However, because of our great justice system, if put in the situation, I WILL kill the perp and not think twice. Dead men don't talk, remember that.
  20. Well, I didn't realize that. Thanks for the info. Either way, those things are more prone to crash get shot down than a human pilot is. You can argue that we'll go to war with China and they'll shoot SAMs at us. But if that's the case, then UAVs are going to get shot down constantly. So losing 50 UAVS is still more expensive than losing 10 pilots.
  21. At Tyndall a while ago, ONE Raptor killed something like 4 Vipers and 3 Eagles 3x each before any of them got a shot off. You're telling me some chinese UAV is going to defeat that? Not a chance in hell.
  22. Try telling "close combat is being removed more and more" to all the Marines and soldiers in Iraq/Afgahnistan. That statement is relatively wrong at this point in time (now I'm not speaking for 20 yrs down the road). Sure striking from a further distance is good, but there will still be humans physically doing that job, not just 100% predators doing that job.
  23. Hey now, I never said remote operatiosn aren't effective. In fact, they are as effective for CERTAIN missions. Recon...I think they're as effective, if not more so for certain situations. My argument is that UAVs will not take over 100% of the jobs b/c they're limited in the sense that a computer is not capable of emmulating the human brain. I don't think that will ever be possible, some people think so; I guess we'll see. I understand that. I'm just arguing that UAVs won't be as effective as a human at ALL missions. THey are and will be at some, but not all. That's what I'm saying. I never said war deaths have lessened over time with techonolgical advances, I was saying that there won't be a time where no human life is lost in a war (and that applies to military personnel as well).
  24. We wouldn't be considered inferior if we still beat them...which we would. I can guarantee Chinese UAVs aren't going to defeat the AF. Plenty of reason...fighting a war w/ some cameras on a UAV is much different than looking through a canopy in the center of the battle. It will never be as effective...sure they can get close, but close isn't perfect. That statement was directed at more millitary personnel, since the thread is, or at least was, directed more about the Predator and UAVs. So yes, I don't know a single military member, especially a pilot, who would rather sit in a trailer than fly. Losing men in battle has always happened and will happen till the day the world ends. Nothing is going to change that. Sure machines may do some jobs that were once done by humans, thus saving lives...but in the overall scheme, there will always be men on the battlefield, and there will always be human death in war.
