I think we need to hear more stories like this.

Good article...wish everyone had moral standards like this. But such is life. -
King Fahd, Saudi Arabia's Ruler for 23 Years, Dies
ViperPilot replied to Alias's topic in Speakers Corner
Skyrad, I wasn't saying the Prince was the first one to support terrorism. He's just another cog in the wheel on that one I guess. However his dislike for America is a large reason as to why we're (the military) are leaving. So, now Saudi is more prone to increased terrorism support since the US will not be there (just my opinion of course). -
Real news, real discussion, and Big Macs.
ViperPilot replied to gmanpilot's topic in Speakers Corner
The majority of people just don't care about "real" news/debates. Sadly, more people would rather hear about the latest J Lo saga or Brad did this, blah blah blah. It's ridiculous, but it's the world we live in. -
You can either do 141 or not. If you do 141, it's much more structured, and can be good for some people. However, if you don't do it, then it's more at your own pace, using your instructor's discretion. This can be good if you're a "natural" and progress much faster then the average student. I think the national average for getting your license is somewhere around 70 hrs. Some people do it in 40, some in 50, some in 100. It just depends on the person. 141's probably a good way to go if you think you might be the guy towards 100, but if after flying w/ your friends and a few lessons you think you might be more like the 50-70 range guy, then I personally wouldn't do 141. For clarification, 141 = Flight School, 61 = Instructor's discretion (for the most part). As far as cost, just compare the schools in your area. Some clubs charge dues, some don't. However, the ones that don't charge dues may be appealing at first, but might have really high rental costs. Also, DO NOT rent anything "dry" if you can help it. "Wet" rental is much better and will save you money. Paying dues for a good club is worth it IMO if you fly enough. If you only fly once or twice a month, then it might be better to find a club w/o dues...even if their rates are a little higher. So, how much you fly is also a big factor.

King Fahd, Saudi Arabia's Ruler for 23 Years, Dies

Abdullah is not so friendly towards America; maybe he's ok directly, but not indirectly. He supports radical clerics who preach violence against America, and is kicking the US military out. This guy is not being cordial to America, that's certain. -
Dirty roommates.........god that pisses me off. I hear you on the whole kitchen being in the sink.

King Fahd, Saudi Arabia's Ruler for 23 Years, Dies
ViperPilot replied to Alias's topic in Speakers Corner
Although Al Qaeda did hate Saudi for its cooperation with America, the Prince has since severed the ties with America, and thus lessened Al Qaeda's feud with it. Saudi is becoming more liked by Al Qaeda every day. Does that mean Saudi will support terrorism? No. But it does mean that's one less country Al Qaeda has to worry about. -
DAMN JEWS!!!!!!!!!!! (Dane Cook anyone?)

King Fahd, Saudi Arabia's Ruler for 23 Years, Dies
ViperPilot replied to Alias's topic in Speakers Corner
Well now that Fahd is gone, the prince will act even more on his hatred of America. Even Fahd just being alive did provide some restraint...but now there's none. Pity. -
Good info Gravity, liked the post. And by the way Eagle, it's spelled Al Qaeda, not whatever that jumbled mess is. You might get just a little bit more respect from your peers if you at least learn to correcty spell your favorite group to talk about.

I have nothing against Islam...I HATE Islamic Extremist (aka Terrorists). Big difference.

Complete TROLL. Just another one of his posts claiming unproven accusations...and one of a few that are directly anti-semetic.

An even worse Saudi... -
They already do care. They could start a "war on terror." I was just arguing that the odds are against that. No it's not impossible, but I argue that there is a smaller chance of Chinese action. It could very well happen. Just because they say "now go away" does not mean we will. You mean the UN that has always been useless and in shambles? We don't just put up with "whatever" China does. We may have to let some things go, but we won't just sit here with our thumbs up our asses and do nothing.

Agreed. I'm only saying with the current way of doing things, it would make more sense to profile. I completely agree with you and think all the extra crap should be done for everyone, but if that's not the way it's being done, then for now, we should profile until the better system can be implemented. That's all. Bought a round trip ticket and showed my mil id at checkin too. It was random, I know. But at the time with the current system, it just made sense to "randomly" pick the other guys or at least all three of us.

British Police's Handling of the Situation
ViperPilot replied to ViperPilot's topic in Speakers Corner
Don't forget the fact that he spoke fluent English, thus completely understanding what the police were saying. Plus, I'm not so sure about this guy. He wears a thick coat and a backpack everyday. He's an electrician. Seems a bit convenient. He obviously had a very good reason to run from police if he chose to run from several of them. While the police have said he wasn't involved in the bombings, I'm not so sure this guy's as innocent as we think (maybe not linked to these bombings, but perhaps future ones). This is just speculation. Yes, he was innocent, this time. Just some points like the clothing, the backpack, his expertise, and his running from the cops like he had everything to lose. Those points cause some suspicion to arise. -
Well, what about the "extra" security check that you could "randomly" get at the airport. A bit inconvenient, but not terrible. What's wrong with sending the Arab guy through there and not the grandma? Infact, I personally had an experience where I was funneled through this "extra" check line IN UNIFORM. Are you kidding me? I have my mil ID, in uniform, I'm obviously not f*cking with them. But no, I get checked while two Arab guys behind me go through just fine. Now, not saying they're terrorists, but out of the three of us, it would make much more sense to suspect them and not me, thus putting them through the special screening if anybody goes. It sucks for them being innocent (I assume), but based on past lessons in history, it numerically makes sense to check them and not the guy in the military, or at least check all three of us.

R.I.P. 10,000 Indonesian Christians 1998-2003
ViperPilot replied to Sen.Blutarsky's topic in Speakers Corner
Just more evidence to support the number of violent Islamists in this world. Profiling's sure not a bad idea. And yes, Indonesia is an incredibly terrible part of the world. As far as press coverage, this just goes to show how the media has its agenda, i.e. destroying the Bush Administration. I'm not saying that's all they show, but they sure conveniently don't cover stories as well that don't support their vendetta against Bush. Indonesia doesn't help the media's case, so they won't cover it. Case closed. -
British Police's Handling of the Situation
ViperPilot replied to ViperPilot's topic in Speakers Corner
Found out today, the guy has spoken fluent English for a couple years. So, this guy walks into a station wearing a thick jacket and a backpack. Police then go after them, not just one, but several, and yell to stop...in a language he completely understands. Yet, he still runs from them and onto a train. His death is practically 100% his fault. It's still unfortunate, but he made all the odds against him, he chose to wear that stuff, and then on top of it, run from the police onto a train wearing a backpack. Sorry, but this guy screwed himself. The police SOPs worked perfectly, this guy's common sense did not. -
Eh, they can read my email, screen my calls. I really don't care. What's there to care if you don't have anything to hide? That's my take.
-
No, I didn't say all were, but a vast majority, yes. And now, we should not just soley concentrate on them and not bother women, white men, christians, etc. I agree mostly with you on this, I just think that when, for instance, you're on a flight and 8 young, Arab males get on, and all take suspcious turns going into the front lavatory...yeah, I'd be very suspicious, and that's racial profiling. I don't think it's racist, just a logical thought process based on past experiences. That's not saying I wouldn't be suspicious if a group of punk rockers did the same thing (example used earlier), but just that when a group of arabs do what I described in the scenario above, there's great reason to be concerned.

British Police's Handling of the Situation
ViperPilot replied to ViperPilot's topic in Speakers Corner
You made some good point which I do agree with. However... If you're scared of the cops killing you, which sure, I guess could be valid if you were running from them. That's the point, just don't mess with the cops/run from them and you're chances are a whole lot better. Of course the cops need to be careful of situations like this that happened, but nonetheless, given the info they had at the time, they followed their SOPs flawlessly. No SOP is perfect of course, but for now, it's the best they got and seems to work well enough...except for the case when an innocent guy runs from 20 cops even though they're yelling stop. In that case, I suppose the SOP doesn't work. But hey, that's not the cops' fault. By the way, not all of that directed at you tbrown, considering I agreed with a good amount of what you said. Just piggybacking off that last sentence -
Bill, what you're trying to argue is narrow profiling will screw us over. Yes, it can, but only if we relax on other groups. No one's suggesting that we relax security at all, just that we be a bit more warry of young, arab males. It sucks for all the innocent Arabs, especially the younger male population, but it needs to be done. They're the ones who have committed the majority of terrorism, that's why we need to watch them closer. That does not mean we let up on other groups. I agree, if we did that, we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot. That's why we don't let up, just keep a closer watch on certain groups.

British Police's Handling of the Situation
ViperPilot replied to ViperPilot's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, I'd imagine, although plain clothed, six police officers running in public with drawn guns does not exactly scream terrorists. This guy obviously lacked anything remotely close to common sense. That does not make his death right, but it does place his death mostly in his own hands. It's a tragedy, yes, but the police cannot be blamed for their actions, especially following the recent past. This man should have done the smart thing, stopped and raised his hands. That's all he needed to do. Instead he led police on an incredibly suspicious chase. Sorry, but his actions led to his own death. Tragic, but not by much fault of the police. -

All of your retorts, bill, are based singlehandly on hindsight. You argue only because you can using hindsight. Do you actually think the cops should have known all of this at the moment a frantic man ran from them straight for a tube, the very location several bombs had exploded over the last weeks.
