Who's doing the majority of terrorism? There's almost 200 islamic terrorist attacks listed here. These aren't all of them. Might want to add this info in before compiling a small list of non-muslim/Islamic terrorist acts and thusly declaring racial profiling ludicrous. With all these attacks listed above, how does racial profiling, while being very un-PC and downright incovenient for some people, make no sense? I agree it sucks for all the thousands of innocent Arab people out there. But, there's just no getting around it. Racial profiling makes sense, even if it's very un-pc.
  2. I should have added that in my post. I agree, you can't just overrun them using govt agencies, it's going to have to be a collective effort on the part of every citizen.
  3. From what I've seen in the news, not that I know anymore about this than the anyone else in the general public, it seems that Pakistan is a rather strong ally in the war on terror. Of course they don't have the means that we do, but they're trying hard. Several top Al Qaeda officials have been caputred by the Pakistanis. Not to mention it's helpful when we want someone interrogated, and we aren't allowed to do what we want to get the info, so we just hand the prisoner to the Pakistanis. They'll get the info real quick. These are just observations from what I've seen in the news. The Pakistani govt is not supporting terrorists (as far as we know), so therefore we should be their ally. That's my take.
  4. To tell you the truth, the Iraqi govt is obviously in it's infancy, and right along with that, they are not very good at tallying info like this. Much of it is based on hersey. I can safely say their numbers are incorrect, maybe not ludicrous, but definitely not ultra accurate, like everyone likes to think they are. I think Speedracer's post has some good info about this topic. But even the estimate of 25,000 is high. Not to mention the kid pointing an AK-47 at you is considered a civlian death and not an insurgent death. That type of situation helps a lot. So maybe it'd help to take a lot off that 25,000 number because several of those are really just people who tried to kill someone and got killed themselves. But then they are tallied as a civilian death. Not to mention it seems to be commonplace at times that we are just indiscriminately blamed for people's deaths that we did not cause. So yes, the numbers you read from the Iraqi govt are incorrect. I'm not saying it's an all-out lie, but they are incorrect. As far as the news thing. I never said CNN was some crazy, liberal propoganda. The point I was making about the news is that there is so much that is not shown. If they truly showed everything, then it'd be more like 200 positive articles, 20 negative articles. That's the point Bill. You can count 4 positive and 4 negative, but howbout CNN does us a favor and shows the entire truth, meaning 50 positive/10 negative for example. But of course they won't do that. That where I think the American media sucks. Not to mention other parts of the world are equally bad if not worse. See Zep's post for that one.
  5. Thanks for that one Zep. At least some people understand the dillema.
  6. Well that sucks. Lessoned learned, don't run from the cops. I feel for the man's family and friends, but nonetheless, I still feel the police acted appropriately at the time given the info they had. Hindsight is always 20/20.
  7. On another note, did anyone ever read that article from a few years ago titled, "Poor People Pretty Much Fucked?" As is normal for the Onion, it was pretty bad, but still really funny. I remember reading it on a bus and not being able to control my snickering/laughing. People were just staring at me...it was pretty funny.
  8. I agree with the US consumption part, no surprise. However, the colorful adjective is another question. I already suggested that, but yes, I agree. I argue that the majority of media chooses to leave out a lot of the good and only show the bad. Now, this has been standard news practice for decades. Becuause obviously no news sells like bad news. So, can't blame them for wanting good ratings. This practice is why I hate pretty much the ENTIRE media. I just wish they would have the moral stature to not screw us over by leaving good things out, thereby making people think everything is much worse than it is. Is Iraq shitty? Yeah. But, sometimes people thinks it's far worse than it is (not that I'm saying it's not bad, just that it's not AS BAD as some think). Compelete bullshit bill. But I've told you this a thousand times and you won't listen. So, go ahead and keep believing the bs press that can't find the tits on pamela anderson, but are self-prescribed experts on what's going on in battle. p.s. This is one of the biggest reasons I hate the media right now. We do have problems. Are they as serious as some people think, no. I think these numbers of misled people could do better to get the real facts, which means ALL the facts, not just the bad ones that sell. That's something the American media as a whole is terrible at. They pick and choose what they want. Go ahead and show all the bad stuff, but you need to show all the good stuff too. The media doesn't understand this moral obligation (or at least I think they are obligated).
  9. I say good on the House. At least it'll help somewhat.
  10. Dropoutdave has a point. What have I done!!!!!!!!!
  11. haha. I love the Onion. On that the media topic from that other thread...everyone just get your news from the Onion. It's better than anything else.
  12. American media is ridiculous for the most part. It's usually biased as hell, one way or the other. Why? Because each producer has their own take on things and thus puts their own spin on things. As a member of the military, I really do not like the media. Why? Well because they hardly ever show all the good we do or at least try to do. Some 1/2 hurricane hits texas and it's national news. Well how about Sgt Smith saving two small children from RPG attacks. No, you won't hear his story, but don't worry, you'll hear about how Mrs. Jones' cat got stuck in the tree. I believe some in the media hate Bush so much that they will do anything to destroy his reputation, which includes giving as much bad press as possible about the Iraq War. These guys could give a shit about us, they don't care about what we're doing, they just care about trying to ruin Bush's career. And then there are those on the other end who would defend any crazy, far-right idea, person, etc. It's always going to be biased. Best thing that can be done is get news from multiple sources, domestic and foreign, then decide for yourself.
  13. Some people are taking about reason to kill. I wasn't there, so I don't know for sure, but I would think the police already had some intel on this guy, and the fact that he was running away from them, scared (as in he's scared that they know about him/his plan, whatever it may be), and into a train station. That seems beyond reasonable doubt that something is wrong and this guy needs to be stopped, now. Better to stop him then to watch him just run into a train and kill a 100 people.
  14. On the 5 shot thing... I was just giving you English a bad time. But yeah, I'd put several rounds in this guy. The only true guy who takes one shot is the sniper. Anyone else, like me, I like a few more...just in case . Makes complete sense. Some guy starts acting suspicious on your flight (lets say), you're not just going to sit there and say, "ok, lets just see where he's going with this one." Next thing you know...well, you don't know...because you're non-existent as the plane's wreckage is falling to the earth. Yeah, I'd say the cops did the right thing.
  15. Why is it so crappy? I guess I was more aiming to seeing how people thought about the shooting. Because I can almost guarantee had a similar thing happened in America, this poll would be going the complete opposite way. Even Americans would denounce cops for doing this. Just wondering if the same would happen in Europe. The answer is no...at least for now.
  16. I was just giving them a hard time. Yeah, if I had a crappy little 9mm, I'd shoot a few times too. That's why atleast .40 is the way to go.
  17. This is the basis of terrorism. In Britain, Ireland, Iraq, Iran, and beyond, there are numerous fanatics who think they know what's best for their country, their "people," and the rest of the world. These people exist and have existed well before Blair, Bush, the Iraq War, the first Gulf War, etc. The only way to crush terrorism is to crush this type of thought, and to do that is incredibly hard.
  18. The IRA and the lot were/are just as big of shitbags as these Islamic terrorists. I see no difference. Who cares if the terrorist is Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Jew, Christian, etc. If you're a terrorist, you deserve to get the shit kicked out of you. The IRA has done some terrible things, they deserve punishment just as much as these train bombers and Zarqawi (sp?). I don't think terrorists should be called animals. Why? Because even animals wouldn't do the things to eachother that terrorists do to innocent people every day. Terrorists are below animals in my opinion.
  19. I guess we may never know, but the simple fact that they had beyond reasonable doubt that this guy might have a bomb, and given the last 2 weeks, I'd put a bullet in him too (now five...sounds like Brits can't shoot)
  20. I was wondering how you all felt about the British government's and police handling of this last attack and the 7 Jul one. Are their investigations, releasing photos to the public, etc. helping a lot, or barely helping at all? This morning they chased down a suspected bomber and shot him dead...I say good. What do you think? I'd be really interested to hear what all of you Brits out there think.
  21. Conspiracy theorist I see? Invevitible is a strong word. China has more than a lot to lose if they go to war with the US. I think the more correct terminology would be "possible, but not too likely." Don't worry, it's not impossible, but with as obsessed as the PRC is with China's positive future, they will back down and not risk international crisis, and hence the damnation of their country. This is the more likely scenario.
  22. I don't need to say much to this since several others did. However, the Saudi govt wanted us there. We were not an invading/occupying force. So, it'd be the same as saying, "hey China, we need you to station troops on Hawaii to help keep us and the region safe from Maui aggressors." So in that case, I'd be fine with them being there.

    Ha, you only wish!!
  24. As far as disproving, you could look at 9/11. It was a completely unprovoked terrorist attack based soley on hatred towards the West. So, the same thing could have easily happened in any Western European country, even if Iraq had not happened. Afterall, Iraq did not cause 9/11, extremists' hatred for the West did. That same hatred is easily directed at London or any other Western city regardless of Iraq. You could argue Iraq brings more hate, but it certainly did not START the hate.
  25. Man, I could quit too! That means I don't have to work, and I can still skydive. It's a win-win situation! Now, where's the guy who pulls in 250k/yr to pay for my skydiving. He owes me....
