  1. I agree. However I'm still waiting for people to pay attention to the issues that are relevant to a Presidential race.
  2. As of my posting, 27 people are dumber than they were earlier today. Send this to FOX. You have a future in the "new media".
  3. I have yet to come across a situation where less education is the solution.........except maybe when it comes to the recipe for chorizo.
  4. I agree with you but with one exception. I think that the pregnancy is worth mentioning ONLY because of it's commentary on the effectiveness of the "abstinence only" sex education model.
  5. What? Do my eyes deceive me or is John Rich now implying the virtues of accurate and balanced discourse, where terms such as "most", "many" and "some" are preferred over the binary "good", "evil", "all"? Or have I been away from SC long enough to not immediately recognize a fallacious argument?
  6. Man, I want to respond but there are so many tangents to go off on.....trickle down, SC justices, CEO pay, corporate bailouts.....etc. I don't have time. It's Friday afternoon, there's a four way competition at the DZ tomorrow, and I have to pack for a vacation. Oh well, I suppose I'll NEVER have another chance to debate those topics Have a good weekend (week).
  7. I'll have to disagree on the green energy aspect. I see alternatives as being necessary for our national security. Beyond any health, climate or economic debates the reality remains that if we weren't a petroleum based society then we wouldn't be meddling in the governmental affairs of oil rich regions, and as a consequence, we'd have fewer people wishing us harm. Our military would also be used more for protecting our country than it is "protecting our interests". Waste and inefficiency needs to be dealt with fairly and across the board.
  8. Good observations. At a local university you can even get a master's certificate in "government contracting". Oh joy!
  9. You've gotta read I don't like his short term proposals like windfall profits taxes and tapping the strategic reserves but the tire and tune up idea is a good one. If everyone inflated their tires to the proper pressure today then we would save 3.5 million gallons of gasoline by tomorrow. That's about the most simple, effective, short term solution that I can think of. What do you dislike about the rest of his proposals? Still lacking many specifics but, I know that is normal for all politions. What I do see here however supports my view that he wishes to move the US toward a Euro socialistic type government. No thanks "Trickle down" didn't work. It became "Throw up". This nation will fail unless we use our resources to invest in its people. That means we need a healthy and well educated population if we're going to lead the world in innovation, or even get by. Investing top down has led to the diversion of those resources to overseas bank accounts and foreign labor forces. That model works great for multinational corporate profits but it lends itself to the cultivation of a nation that is smart enough and wealthy enough to only work and shop at WalMart. Welfare is welfare, whether it's given to the wealthy or to the poor. People just have to decide where they want that money "invested". I personally think that taking the welfare away from those who don't need it is the first step. And I may be completely wacked in the head but I think that our nation would be better off if we quit throwing money out of the back of trucks in a war zone and quit maintaining a nuclear arsenal that has no peer in favor of educating and maintaining a healthy populace. Thank you. I relinquish the virtual soap box and my remaining bytes Mr. Moderator.
  10. Quite true. The cell phone factor shouldn't affect the trend unless it was the result of a gain or loss of a demographic, which seems unlikely.
  11. Ohhh....so sorry!! Wrong answer but thanks for playing (about a minute into it)
  12. I wonder how many long lost relatives Michael Phelps has this week

  14. He can indeed stand it. He's trying to drive the conversation to things HE thinks is important. As for dealing with internation(al) tensions, he'll do fine. Foreign leaders don't typically take their talking points from FOX. Maybe his ideas on health care, energy, taxes, government waste, foreign policy, education, veterans, immigration, civil rights, etc.
  15. I think the point he tries to make, and has been trying to make, is that the debate should be about Presidential issues. Radical thinking, I know. I mean who would want to know how a candidate would deal with the economy or health care or foreign policy when there are ears, clothing, and wives to talk about? And if you think that his tone has become more sharp recently you're probably right. He's responding to about a month's worth of negative ad jabbing from his opponent. McCain's supporters like negative ads. They used to complain that he was being too nice and wasn't hitting hard enough. Sadly, making up false, sensational claims and repeating them seems to work. Facts and honest dialog are apparently too boring for our electorate, or our media (not sure who to blame first for that one).
  16. 1) Everyone knows, including you, that the reason "H" is used is to imply an association with Islam. It plays with the Islamophobia propagation. Using "H" or "BHO" or "Hussein" during the political discussions is this season's version of the "Iraq" and "al Qaeda" and "9/11" juxtaposition. 2) "W" is a way to discern between Bush (41) and Bush (43). 3) "W" is not an insult. "Duh..bya" is and is intended to be.
  17. Is there a subject to this thread? I think Lawrocket started on one but that one post is about as far as it's gone. And on that issue Lawrocket, I heard a discussion about polls recently that I hadn't heard mentioned in a few months. It dealt with the fact that traditional phone polling techniques are having trouble with the younger demographic. Many folks in their 20's and early 30's don't have land lines. They only use cell phones and therefore are not readily reachable. I'd be curious as to whether or not that has a significant effect on the results of modern polls. Or, if that sort of discussion is unwanted in this thread then how about I play along. Hey! What's up with McCain? Can you get over that guy? I mean really, who can take him seriously? He must think voters are stupid or something. There, how was that
  18. Hey man, it's not like he drew a map on the ground showing her enemies where she was. Good thing Malkin didn't piss off Ann Coulter, her days would be numbered
  19. Look out SC! Marg has a golden lasso!!!
  20. Ok, I read the name of the author and quit. Then I decided that wasn't fair, even if she's just a hack. So I read the first sentence. Then I quit reading again because it was obviously going to be a hack piece written by a hack. Started again.....skim.....skim....skim.....blah blah blah...maybe there's something there worth reading but I'm obviously going to have to go to different source.....Ooo...McCain slam too. So her concern is over us getting fleeced by the government? Where was she when we were throwing $millions$ in cash out of the back of a truck?
  21. He apparently doesn't even read the threads that he posts to.
  22. Well, there IS precedent. I wouldn't worry about it too much, but if she starts up with "redrum.....REDRUM", let me know.
  23. I'm not about to say that they're doing a good job but let's take a reality break. They have a simple majority and they are ruling like they have a simple majority. Along with that, the R's are in record obstruction mode. The goal as explained by Trent Lott: "The strategy of being obstructionist can work or fail...and so far it's working for us. Democrats are taking the blame for not getting anything done." (R)Trent Lott, Roll Call, April 18, 2007 An example So my question is, should the Democrats continue to rule as a simple majority or should they follow the 109th's example and claim that a simple majority reflects the "will of the people" and do their best to excluded the minority from any input?
