  1. I'm getting the idea that common sense is considered "unpatriotic" by some.
  2. What's wrong with the concept of conservation? Have you tried it? I got an almost 10% increase by inflating to the upper limit. I also got another 10% by slowing down from 70-80 to 60-70.
  3. Windfall profits tax is a bad idea. But please tell me how massive subsidies to the petroleum industry, with yet again posting the largest profits of any industry EVER recorded, is considered free market economics.
  4. Ok, lets run with it and say that most reporters are "libs". I'm a "lib" but I would never run a story that was fictitious or deliberately misleading. And if I were an editor I would never allow a piece to run that was a partisan hack job. If I did then my paper/network would show a lack of journalistic integrity and lose credibility. IMO, that's the proper "lib" approach to journalism. So if I was a part of your poll, I'd be falling into the "lib" category but I wouldn't be tainting the news with my "bias". Now with your examples you're pointing to a "liberal" media that runs more and positive stories about Obama than it does McCain and calling that evidence of a bias. And maybe you have a point. But when people point out the bias from the "new" media the bias is not nearly that subtle (a vast understatement) and it usually gets explained off as "oh, that's meant to be entertainment". $0.02
  5. I make it out for a couple of jumps about every other weekend. Need to jump more but I prefer jumping in the winter. It gets too hot in the summer and that can take away from the fun. Then again there are more jumpers to play with in the summer so I guess it's a wash.
  6. Once again, you're equating income with intellect. And I never said you were stupid (although your sentence structure and spelling make it tempting), simply that your argument style has little to do with persuasive discourse and more to do with belligerent antagonism. But to answer your question, this "ignorant liberal" would like to talk about the subject of the thread. Let me know if your $uperior $ense of intellect ha$ brought you to $ome conclu$ion$ that you would like to $hare.
  7. I think Tyndall points out a relevant concept in the first article: "ANDREW TYNDALL: No, that's not their first and foremost obligation. The first and foremost obligation of a journalist is to reflect reality. And if the reality is that Obama is speaking to 200,000 people in Germany and John McCain is in an aisle in the supermarket, the 200,000 people are more newsworthy than Obama. And you wouldn't be reflecting reality accurately if you gave those two events equal weight. You'd lose all credibility in the eyes of your audience, because you'd be saying this spectacular phenomenon that's happening in Berlin is no more or less important than a photo-op in a supermarket." We all know that the press is most interested in selling advertising so following the bigger story makes sense. McCain also is a known quantity who has always been treated well by the press corp because he's always made himself available. Unfortunately he's not doing anything interesting or new. And unfortunately for him, when he does get coverage it's because he's made a serious misstatement or a policy shift or it has to do with his struggle to shore up a conservative base that doesn't particularly like him. As for Obama's trip to Europe, McCain pretty much challenged him to go over there. That obviously backfired as evidenced by the nature of McCain's last two ads. If he doesn't watch out he's going to start giving people the impression that he's desperate. And I thought that Obama's response was rather poignant when he said: ""You know, I don't pay attention to John McCain's ads," Obama said. "Although I do notice that he doesn't seem to have anything to say very positive about himself. He seems to only be talking about me. You need to ask John McCain what he's for, not just what he's against."
  8. I too would be interested in where this comes from. Thanks for asking. "The Advertising Project at the University of Wisconsin" according to NPR. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=93083563
  9. Ok, so what makes you say that the founding fathers were not influenced by English tradition? (Remember, also being influenced by a bunch of pontificating haggis munchers does not preclude this) Jakee. Shut up. (drops book bag and runs towards the playgound) Fight! Fight!!!
  10. Not really, no. You think the concert drew the crowd and you're entitled to your opinion. I think that you're looking for any possible justification to explain the turnout other than that people want to see/hear him. He gets record turnouts wherever he goes, inspired record turnouts during the primaries and is driving record turnout for new voter registration. Ok, so I guess I do have a comment. Agreed, because then we might be under an immediate threat that would justify the use of our military, as per the Constitution, which would be in direct contrast to the current region building exercise. Neither do I. But I want one that recognizes and respects those opinions. As Mike pointed out, we are not electing the President of the World, which means that you work with your foreign counterparts. You don't dictate their policies. If Bush's arrogant and aggressive policies would have resulted in something positive for the country then maybe there's an argument to be made supporting his actions, and imperialistic one but at least you could weigh the cost to the benefit. But that's not the case. He's leaving us a train wreck and we're going to have to pick up the tab for clean up.
  11. There are massive protests wherever he goes indeed. (Well there were, not so much any more. Lame duckedness has its advantages) And that was really my point. I only picked out the Brazilian protest because I could allude to the Bush "Brazillion" joke President Bush is meeting with his advisors concerning the war and its effect on our allies. One advisor picks up a sheet of paper and grimly reads, "Three Brazilian soldiers were killed outside Bagdad this morning. Bush cries out, "Oh, no!" and buries his head in his arms, all to the shock of those present. They had no idea he cared so deeply for the Brazilian presence. Suddenly Bush raises his head, and in a sheepish voice asks, "Wait. How many is a brazillion?"
  12. Wow, I really had to go backwards quite a few posts to get back to the subject of the thread. I agree with you 100% Lawrocket. I hope this sort of thing gets as much exposure as possible so that it won't happen again. The system only works if you play by the rules.
  13. You mean, how one comes online right after the other is banned? DeVoll posting history JohnDeere posting history It is funny, isn't it And they both use "buis" as an abbreviation for "business". They make similar grammatical errors too - it must be a Texas thing. It was most of those above, the aggressively misspelled militant conservative rants and the assertions that making lots of money means you know what you're talking about. Must have learned that at a Kevin Federline motivational conference.
  14. Why not challenge him to a dick measuring contest? - It's just as juvenile. Anyone ever notice that JohnDeere and DeVoll are never in the same room together
  15. Actually the NiMH battery technology was ready. Chevron currently holds the patent, which I believe expires in 2015.
  16. The HJC just grew a pair. They're holding Rove in contempt. 20 to 14.
  17. Would you agree that it's easier to work with your allies when they like you? We live in a globalized world: labor, markets, entertainment etc. is now global and that's not likely to change. We're falling behind in education, innovation and health. We have two significant powers over the rest of the world, the ability to consume and the ability to blow up anyone and everyone on the planet. Neither of those are particularly marketable. The next few Presidents are going to have to work WITH other countries, not against them. As recent history indicates, working against them is expensive and counter productive.
  18. We're in a global forum. That's not going to help change attitudes much.
  19. I based that conclusion on the huge protests every time Bush stepped foot in a different country (I have a pic of a brazillion Brazilians protesting if you'd like it) and then did some internet searches on world public opinion. Here's one addressing Bush. But fortunately things are starting to improve It's not so much a hatred of the US as it is of our imperialistic policies, for which #43 is the poster child. Most opinions that I've seen indicate that people like the US and its people but they don't care for us imposing our policies on them. They'd prefer that we be present and work WITH them to solve problems. But as a side note regarding Bush's popularity, even here in the US I don't recall ever having a President that required you to sign a loyalty oath to get into a venue where he was speaking.
  20. I think he's trying to say that the Europeans love us because they voted against the candidate who criticized Bush the most. After all, voters in other countries have absolutely nothing other to consider than US policy right? They secretly love our imperial policies. They vote "pro-Bush" and then just pretend to burn US flags and protest all of Bush's visits.
  21. I think it's more along the lines of "People hadn't left yet after the concerts"..... Whatever makes you feel good dude. Let's see, AC/DC in Donington drew about 65,000. And I think that Queen drew 250,000 in Rio. That's comparable. But looking at the pictures I'd say those two bands....(what were their names again?) sure draw a polite crowd. It was so very considerate of them to stick around and feign attentiveness and interest in Obama's speech. And if you look at the pics I promise you you'll find a McCain supporter if that helps.
  22. I'd love to see this develop into a pattern. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080729/ap_on_go_co/stevens_indictment_9 P.S. Yes Jeanne, I searched first.
  23. Thanks, and thanks Speedracer. I'll try to do better and keep up but I'm not going to search before every post. I won't do it and you can't make me
