  1. Would that be the Nancy Pelosi, in charge of Congress, who now has the lowest approval rating ever in the history of the country, at just 9%? That Nancy Pelosi? Talk about turd blossoms... Mighty quick redirect there shooter. That's fodder for another thread. Besides, if you have a problem with the nasty nomer then take it up with "The Deciderer".
  2. I think I threw up in my mouth just a little. Please don't give #43 credit for successful bribery by the telecom industry during an election year. We've got the best government money can buy.
  3. None, other than Darius' argument that holding Iran accountable for violating UNSC resolutions and not doing the same with Israel is hypocritical. It's that double standard that repeatedly gets us in trouble in the region. But regarding legality, I've been looking around a bit this morning and I haven't found much from the UN that states that their program is illegal. The IAEA's report in February stated that Iran's program looked ok and that all but one issue has been dealt with satisfactorily. That one issue is based on some questionable intelligence about the alleged "green salt project". I'm not sure what to say about that one because from what I've seen, the info is supposedly from a smuggled laptop in the CIA's possession. The CIA won't turn it over to the IAEA for inspection. On that issue the IAEA board of Governors states: In light of the above, the Agency is not yet in a position to determine the full nature of Iran’s nuclear programme. However, it should be noted that the Agency has not detected the use of nuclear material in connection with the alleged studies, nor does it have credible information in this regard.. So basically, I'm still not sure whether or not Iran's program is illegal. A civilian program is legal under the NPT. I know that our government doesn't like it but that doesn't make it illegal. And I don't know about any of you folks but I don't want to go to war again over bad intelligence, hyped threats, and itchy trigger fingers in Washington and Israel.
  4. By the way, I wanted to thank you for looking at the bigger picture. Many think that the majority of the Iranian people are in lock-step agreement with their Blowhard in Chief or that they're neanderthals in need of a little "liberatin'".
  5. Probably a reasonable assumption given our historical record of providing targeting assistance.
  6. To be fair, the argument presented was that Iran was violating UN resolutions. Responding that Israel also violates UN resolutions is a reasonable addition to the discussion. If UN violations are the standard, then apply them equally. Might makes right? Iran is indeed probably interested in pursuing nukes for self defense. If you were them, wouldn't you? When you have nukes you get respect/preferred trading/foreign relations status. Or it could be a reaction to the months of sabre rattling by folks like Cheney, the comment from Israel that they're prepared to nuke Iran because time is running out that coincided with their huge military exercise last month that most believe was intended as a message to Iran. Missed the thread on that one.
  7. Easy to figure out.... just go to the Lush Rimjob Show and to the EIB website......an you will know what they are thinking on any given week. You know, "Facts".
  8. Not sure that I understand that one. McCain has repeatedly had problems specifically remembering who we're fighting. He's been busted repeatedly on blatant misstatements (some would argue that "lie" was a better word) regarding the level of security in Iraq. He is viewed as a hawkish continuation of a very unpopular Bush foreign policy. And, as of yesterday, his policy with regard to withdrawal from Iraq is in direct opposition to the wishes of the Iraqi government. The fact that he served in the military doesn't trump those negatives.
  9. Yea, I knew about it but Sesame Street had the Snuffelupagus on. Did I miss anything besides Bush greeting the assembly with a cordial "Whassup Bitches?" (I heard that Harper tried to pants him after that one)
  10. Thanks dude, I needed the laugh But I didn't need the coffee on the keyboard
  11. "Eighteen percent of Americans think the sun revolves around the earth, one poll has found." Looks like this trend should be bottoming out soon
  12. I don't know dude, I have an easier time believing the McChurian candidate story. You know, I heard that Obama kicked Chuck Norris' ass, and he did it all with his mind......from space!
  13. So, your link would have us believe that oceanic tectonic activity is new (I'm trying to think of an ocean basin which lacks it) and that this particular (nine year old) eruption is responsible for the thinning ice? That's reaching just a bit don't cha think? Actually, the oceanic crust in that region is unusually thin and the overall hydrothermal venting in the surrounding area is (and has been) very active. That's one reason that the Gakkel ridge spreads at a much much slower pace than most oceanic ridges. As as side note, the hydrothermal vents there apparently have a good chance of harboring some interesting forms of life, possibly even new species. They believe the basin was formed about 65 million years ago and it apparently doesn't share any deep water connections with neighboring oceans.
  14. "Although Bush and President Bill Clinton each dismissed nearly all U.S. attorneys upon taking office, legal experts and former prosecutors say the firing of a large number of prosecutors in the middle of a term appears to be unprecedented and threatens the independence of prosecutors."
  15. You could have said that instead of leading us to believe that you were simply "Baracknophobic". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_49MgiTUA8
  16. Sure, I will fully resist any attempt for a foreign element to come into our country and overthrow our government. But even more than that, I flat out will not stand for anyone who insists that our women cover themselves. THAT's where I draw the line Related thought: should we really be encouraging the export of our lifestyle? There are 195 countries in the world. How many of them can use 1/4 of the world's resources?
  17. Did you get this off of FOX and Friends this morning And don't worry. The only thing on the list that applies to Obama is that he's male.
  18. 1) Quit occupying their land and manipulating their governments in order to insure that their oil is readily available to us at a favorable price. You're a big proponent of free market forces, why not let a free and open market sort that one out instead of our military? 2) Hold Israel accountable for their breech of agreements. We need to publicly recognize Israel's shortcomings as voraciously as we do those of the Palestinians. 3) Understand that because a culture doesn't want a McDonald's and Walmart that doesn't mean that they're backwards assed heathens who need "liberating".
  19. I'm glad I read the rest of the thread before I responded to your original reply. I can see that you're beginning to admit to the bigger picture. To do any less is to be dishonest with yourself and everyone else. And I'd appreciate it if you would not put words into my mouth. Recognizing a very legitimate grievance and condoning reprehensible behavior are two completely different things. And I'll leave it at that. I don't respond well to chest thumping, fear mongering, "with us or against us" bullshit.
  20. So, over 3000 moms and dads died in my country on 11-Sep-2001, and we're the instigator? ....... Have you ever read up on why they said they attacked us? We were not just "walking along minding our own business" when we were attacked. To ignore our own culpability will do nothing but insure that the conflict continues. The above quote attributed to an al-Pistoff spokesman .
  21. The difference is in magnitude. It is true that stealing a cookie and stealing the whole jar are both stealing. But c'mon dude, taking the cookie jar, the kitchen and hauling off the baker to an undisclosed location....well that's just going too far.
  22. And how much has our govt stuck their nose into those markets? A whoooooole bunch! Subsidies and tariffs have completely destroyed any semblance of free market interaction. US cotton doesn't make a dime on sales, it's all from subsidies. We buy milk with taxpayer money in order to keep the price from crashing, which in turn is an incentive to produce more milk, which subsequently gets shipped off or stored in caves using taxpayer money. When you get a chance you should do some research on our Government's intervention in the sugar market. That "cartel" got their mitts on our legislators even before big oil did. Actually I think sugar is why we snagged Hawaii but that discussion is probably worthy of another thread. edited to add: I don't think "snagged" is the correct term. I believe that "liberated" is what all the hipsters using these days.
  23. We're also surrounded by dis-functioning markets e.g., sugar, oil, corn, milk, beef, lumber, etc. It's what has made our society what it is today.
  24. 1) "US oil" is oil from the US that is released through private organizations into the global oil market. Global market, not US market. In short, drilling in ANWR doesn't do more than to increase the global supply by a minimal amount, and one that is easily compensated for by supply reduction by another supplier. 2) Drilling in ANWR to find out how much oil is there makes as much sense as firing off some of the rounds in your clip to see if you have enough bullets for the battle.
