Getting video off you mini DV?
idrankwhat replied to Mostly_Harmless's topic in Photography and Video
If you've got a few days and you don't want to spend too much money this is the best fire wire solution that I've found. $12 for the four port fire wire capture card, 6' cable and free shipping. I'm willing to bet you'll have a hard time even getting the cable locally for that price. http://www.acortech.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/569 Blue skies or great GPS spots, -
I've got about 40 jumps on my Pilot 168 and I still couldn't be happier with my purchase. It was brand new when I bought it, right off of student status. The color coded tabs are almost like cheating when it comes to packing but the payback comes when you try to put that brand new zero P into the bag! As for the flying, I just can't say enough good things about it. My wing loading is almost 1.2:1 and the openings are smooth, and predictable, and the toggle response is fantastic but very forgiving. Front riser turns smooth but a little heavy on the control input. I attribute that to the size of the canopy and expect that to change when I downsize. Rear riser turns are very responsive, good for dealing with a long spot and are even great if you want to shorten an already very short recovery arc. As for stalls, I really have to flare deeeeeeep and hold it if I want to do a toggle stall and when it finally does go, just returning the toggles back to my chest gives me a nice, smooth recovery. Rear riser stalls are a blast, rock solid and dropping straight down like an elevator. On landing the whole sequence is a pleasure. The turns are responsive whether in or out of brakes and even a low timer like me can get short swoop if I want to due to the predictability of the canopy and the absolutely limitless flare! The only issue that I have with the canopy is the location of the ID label. It's right in the center of the tail, right next to the obvious centerline tab so it gets handled a lot when I roll the tail. Most of the lettering has been worn off by my hands. But that's it, that's my complaint so don't let that deter you from buying one of these fantastic canopies. I'd highly recommend it for newbies and intermediates, maybe even advanced intermediates at higher wing loadings. I'll let you know when I get there because I plan on sticking with the Pilot for my next canopy.

Personally, I had no problem with the large hole. I just drilled a 5/8" (I think) hole, cleaned up the edges and popped the cameye through. The rubber ring gave a great seal, I didn't need to use any adhesive. It looks great and it's probably easier to find when the time comes to turn on the camera. I just put the liner back in the helmet and it was ready to go. Except for the led. I had to put a 3" piece of copper wire on the end to give it some rigidity. Shrink tubing around that worked great. $0.02

Agreed, good news for Iraq. Now if we could just get a good voter turn out here in America we wouldn't have to look for it over there and we wouldn't have the leadership that we now. Maybe their democracy will work out better than ours. As for bin Laden sure, he's a jerk but let's save that for a relevant separate thread, where it should be.

Ok, just to follow up on this. Parasport has done a great job of taking care of my concerns so now I can change the mad/frustrated emoticon to the happy one

I have an opinion on the GFX if anyone is interested. Drop me an email if you want it. I'm holding back my forum post until after Parasport replies to my concerns.

I need help with getting video to pc?
idrankwhat replied to skyflyingbecca's topic in Photography and Video
Speaking of prices, I just wanted to pass this one along. I needed a firewire capture card for my desktop. Went to Pricewatch.com and found this. http://www.acortech.com/.sc/ms/dd/1081989155763388/9/nc/Controller%20Cards--Firewire%20Card/569/4%20Ports%20IEEE%201394%20Card%20Firewire%20PCI%20CARD $12 total for the capture card with 4 ports, 4 pin to 6 pin cable, free shipping and some sort of video software that I haven't opened yet. Took about a week to get it. I couldn't even buy the cable alone for that price at Circuit City or Best buy! -
We've got a fucking new PAC750XL for the weekend so this fucking fucked up weather that's fucking heading our fucking way can fuck the fuck off!

Thanks for the idea! I drilled a 5/8" hole with a paddle bit (spade bit, whatever it's called), sanded out the edges of the hole and popped the cameye button through from the inside out. The fit is so perfect that I didn't bother with the glue. I have an NvertigoX helmet and I placed it in the upper left corner of the dual audible port cut out. That should hopefully give it good protection from the right riser. Now, if the clouds will just clear out I can take it for a test dive today. Matt QuoteIf you want the neatest install it takes some commitment but you can take a hole saw or drill bit and drill a hole in your helmet and mount the cam eye body inside the helmet under the liner. This will give you an almost perfectly flush button on the outside of the helmet and looks really pro! Make sure you drill the hole about 1mm smaller than the smaller round protrusion of the switch because it is made of rubber and you can push it into the hole. Use some heat glue on the inside to glue the body of to the helmet shell (this type of glue is easily removable if necessary.

I'm too new to tell anyone else what to use, but I moved from a PD 260 down to a PD190 during training, then to a PD170 shortly afterwards so that I'd be ready for the Aerodyne Pilot 168 that I ordered. And IMHO the Pilot absolutely rules!! So, as for my progression opinion: PDwhatever till you get through training, Pilot 168 add weights Pilot 135 add weights then buy a Mamba (unless it turns out that it sucks)

There's plenty out there on the net on pro-packing your main. This is a link from the Aerodyne research site that might help you out. One thing, try to get your technique down on an older chute before someone throws a brand new zero-p at you! http://www.aerodyne-int.com/download/Aerodyne_maincanopies_manual_A4.pdf Have fun, Matt
