I didn't hear much whining from Republicans in 2000. I heard a bit of whining in 2004. I think the playing field was about equal for that one. IMO, we should have 100% public financing. If third parties want to run ads then they need to be held to some sort of standard. If they lie or deliberately mislead in their ads then they pay a huge fine and are prohibited from running any more ads. I'm thinking that outlets that use the term "news" in their name also need to be held to the same standard. I can dream can't I?

It's indeed a sign of the times when Republicans cry out against one candidate having larger war chest than the other. Just an observation.

I think this sums up most people's views on the subject.

What's to defend? Most of what he stated comes down to "the Bush administration has left this country in terrible mess. And the fallout from this failed Presidency has yet to fully materialize. The next year or two are going to be tough to get through. We are going to need your steadfast help and I'm asking you to support us through the recovery." He also mentioned that our enemies may try to push a few buttons with Obama to see how he deals with the pressure, and that Biden has a lot of foreign policy experience to offer. Clear enough?

Again, what is your point? /Marg It's a minor symptom of greater illness called the "Black Knight Syndrome". After being bested through traditional means e.g., logical debate, verifiable evidence, etc., those afflicted with BKS may resort to "face saving" tactics such as the conscious effort to claim a stalemate, hoping to allow the issue to quietly wane, as opposed to the more appropriate response of surrender and capitulation. Those severely afflicted with BKS may not consciously be capable of the realization that their deductive argumentation was based on a false premise. With the absence of an evidential sequence ending in what they have predetermined to be "the" logical conclusion the BKS afflicted cerebral pugilist will often attempt to conclude the contest with an appeal to some sort of unquantifiable or unverifiable mind altering power, typically manifested by vocal outbursts such as "God wills it" or in this case "keep drinking the kool aid". Many believed that the onset of the "information age" would cure the BKS afflicted. However the unforeseen emergence of a concurrent "misinformation age" has nullified that effect.

No. I think Obama's been pretty thoroughly vetted. I HAVE noticed that Joe the Plumber has given more interviews than Palin though
-
Hey! Great job on pointing out Obama's broad spectrum of appeal Is that supposed to be a bad thing?

The Mahoney thing is a story because of the irony, considering the seat he replaced. Politicians having heterosexual, consensual affairs is not really news. Being a jerk about it and having it recorded, yea...that will probably get you in the news. Also, it's difficult to equate a heterosexual affair and man/boy trolling, especially when it involves the party that claims to be some sort of moral model. But right now the election and an economic meltdown that affects the entire world and is forcing the nationalization of the banking community are much bigger stories. Thankfully. -
Right. But ignore the ones who admitted to their crimes cause it fits your agenda I'm ignoring both and concentrating on who they associate with today. Kinda mavericky doncha think

would you like to see a super-majority in the senate?

I want to agree with you but there's the vindictive side of me that wants to see the D's get to 60 and for Obama to give a speech thanking the previous administration and enabling Congressmen for the supreme executive powers of opaqueness and unaccountability that they've bestowed upon his office. Then I wake up and get a bit worried. -
Probably not, but she would stand a greater chance of making the move than I'm willing to accept. Attached is my vision of a Palin cabinet.

What would it take to get you to change your vote?

This just hit me as ironic. You and I are voting for different candidates for similar reasons. You= fewer abortions. Me= fewer wars. -

"Driving that train, high on cocaine, Casey Jones you better watch your speed..." Thank you! I needed something to get that damned Fifth Dimension tune out of my head This is a (painful) game that I used to play with my climbing buddies. Plant the seed in the morning, hear them humming it and then cursing you few hours later. I don't normally take joy in the suffering of others but............ -
They have nothing else. The don't like their candidate. His numbers don't add up. His ideas rhyme with a very unpopular lame duck. There's nothing left but to break out the crocodile tears. They're looking for their whitewater.

Actually, the current congress should be called the "filibuster congress". The next one may be the "filibuster proof congress". That however, is not necessarily a good thing.

Darkness falls across the land The midnite hour is close at hand Creatures crawl in search of blood To terrorize your neighbourhood And whosoever shall be found Without the soul for getting down Must stand and face the hounds of hell And rot inside a corpses shell The foulest stench is in the air The funk of forty thousand years And grizzy ghouls from every tomb Are closing in to seal your doom And though you fight to stay alive Your body starts to shiver For no mere mortal can resist The evil of the thriller -
My take was that it was pretty even up to the 41 minute mark, the point at which Obama dispatched the Ayers issue. That one seemed to jerk the rug out from under McCain and it was unbalanced after that. Considering that the negative attacks seem to be backfiring, I'll be curious to see what happens over the next couple of weeks.
-
Keating, not so much. That was just a reaction to the Ayers BS. Gramm, Leach, Bliley? I'd say that one's a biggie.

She offered her spot in the race to Obama because she wanted to pursue a different one. She lost and so she wanted Obama to drop out and give her back her job. He legally challenged her petition and won. Hard ball? You betcha He's smart, determined, a fast learner, effective and successful. The White House could use some of that.
