Well Iran certainly has benefitted from the removal of a couple of its enemies. Also, a truely democratic Iraq should in theroy lead to a Shiite majority so that helps them as well. That aside, I have a question. What would actually happen if Iran got nuclear weapons capability? The president postures like a madman but also appears to have the capacity for rational thought. The spiritual leader, Khameinei says that using nuclear weapons is right out, his fatwah forbids it. So where does that leave you? A cold war where the Arabs and Israeli's actually have to negotiate with each other? I know that the US doesn't want them to have them and of course they're going to say that it's because they don't want terrorists to get them and attack us. That's a bullshit reason and I say so because the US doesn't seem to be too concerned with the more likely source of a nuke weapon in the hands of terrorists, that being the missing nuke material from Russia. I see it more as a scare tactic to support a war that is actually based on the fact that the US doesn't want to have to deal with a nuclear armed owner of substantial energy resources. So what do you think the actual result of a nuclear armed Iran would be? Higher gas prices? Overthrow of Chavez? An actual move by the US towards alternative energy? Nuclear war started by the US in the middle east? Just thinking out loud today.

Not over here they don't. It's just the opposite. Actually, this conflict with Lebanon is notable becase it's the first time that I can remember where the media here in the US has spent any time at all talking about the damage that Israel has caused. They still spin in favor of Israel but not nearly as badly has they have in the past.

When you take out entire city blocks and using cluster bombs that seems like they're not trying to be too discriminate. Besides, the plan, as written down and presented by Israel was to make things so bad for the Lebanese that they would hopefully turn on Hezbollah. That was in the powerpoint presentation that they presented a year ago.

In case you haven't read all of my posts the reason that I criticize Israel is that there are WAY too many apologists for them over here who are too ready to put all of the blame on the the Arabs. Israel is just as guilty of propagating this conflict and I try to provide some balance to the debate. As for your article, I don't know what to think of it yet. There's not a lot of information. Hell, as far as I know my President dressed up a helicopter and sent it out there so that he can find a reason to go to war with Iran. I'm joking, but only just a little bit.

that's weak... especially when all of Lebanon was full of international media and reporters (often given orders by Hezbollah personnel on what to film). That's far from weak. I can't come up with any other reasonable explanation considering that there were phone calls from UNIFIL to the IDF all day long telling them to cut it out. It looks to me like it was pretty deliberate. And if not, if somehow it was an accident then that complete destroys the claim that I hear over here in America that the IDF strikes with surgical precision and was only taking out Hezbollah targets.

Previously I sent a link to the reports from that UN post that pointed out the number of times that Israel antagonized Lebanon with their military fighters. I should probably read the rest of it to see what else it contains. What would Israel have to gain by blowing up the UN post? Witnesses to a military incursion for which Israel was being heavily criticized.

This supposed email does nothing to address what happened on the day the post was destroyed. What's the source for this information? Last I read was that Annan was disappointed that the investigation was not going to be a joint investigation but soley the responsibility of Israel. But again, the email even if authentic says nothing about the deliberate targeting of the UN post on the day it was destroyed.

So is that the official line now? That Hizbollah was firing from the UN post? Am I to assume that the source is the same one that referred to the bulldozer that killed Rachel Corrie as "falling debris"?

that's one of the outcomes of UNIFIL being unable or unwanting to stop Hezbollah (Hezbollah using them as shields, that is), as described by the UMIFIL officer who was killed there. So basically you're saying that Israel can kill whoever it wants if they claim that Hezbollah, Hamas or even SUSPECTED Hezbollah or Hamas is in or has been in the area? It must be nice to make the human rights rules up as you go along and then not have to answer for your actions.

I'm using Win2k and Sony Vegas to capture and edit the video from my mini-DV. Capture via fire wire is fine, editing is fine but then I want to export the video to a Lite-On DVD/VHS combo unit via the firewire input on the front. I can export it to my camera with no problem but the program just doesn't seem to recognize the video unit, even though Windows does. All of the transport options are greyed out on the Vegas menu. If I pull the fire wire out of the lite-on unit and plug it into my camera then the menu clears and I can play/record to my camera. It just seems like the program doesn't recognize the unit as being something it can transport to. Unfortunately the computer is down at the moment and I can't give you more specific details. I'm not sure if this will make a difference but I'm considering putting XP pro on this computer. I need to wipe the drive and do a reinstall anyway because I want to dedicate this computer to editing and I want to get clear out all of the crap I don't need. I guess the best thing for me to do would be to do the reinstall with the newest drivers I can find and then try again and re-post my problems more specifically. Lite-on says that it shouldn't be a problem and Windows supposedly recognizes that there's something there so maybe it's a Vegas issue. I don't know. I'll come back to the forum with a report either way it goes. Thanks,

Also, while you're sitting at the negotiating table Israel could send people to clean up the mines and cluster bomblets that it's left behind. That aside, I'd be concerned about sending in troops when it's obvious that Israel is ignoring the ceasefire. What are those thousands of troops supposed to do if Israel launches another invasion? I don't really care what you consider Israel. I live here and I know how much we value peace. but we also value our right to live here. Where is "here"? It seems to me that Israel is quite content with the current conflict so long as it eventually leads to a larger "here". And as an aside, I simply can't get over that it is 2006 and the same piece of real estate is being fought over by people who are historically and genetically the same and whose religions are all based on Abraham. I'm not using a seperate card to convert. It's just fire wire out from the capture card to the DV input on the front of the DVD/VHS combo unit. I assumed that since I can plug my camera directly into the unit via that input that the converter was interanal and that I could do the same with the computer. Just out of curiousity, are you using Win2K or XP? I'm using Win2k, don't know if that makes a difference.

very true, and here is the reasons why... When you're the only non-Islamic country in the region, your existence is the result of what was essentially hostile take over and you consistently use strong arm aggressive tactics against your neighbors and insist that there will be peace ONLY under the circumstances that you choose...you're going to get a lot of attention. You complain about the 21 Arab countries in the UN but that there's only one Israeli country....well guess what! There's 21 of them and only one of you! In a DEMOCRATIC body that's how it works. I'm not saying that they have the right to nullify your existence but I would think that Israel would understand that they're the reason for the tension in the region and would actually try to show some interest in peace. And you need to consider the possibility that Israel get's the attention it does because of it's aggressive behavior, not simply because there are Arabs in the UN. Israel has the support from the most powerful nation on the planet and it can afford to take the high road in the conflict and not be the aggressor. Israel is not defending itself, it is constantly provoking and attacking. The right thing to do is to get off of other people's land, quit provoking them and enlist the support the international community. People seem to think that if Israel quits being on the offensive that it's neighbors will try to wipe it off the planet. Well guess, what. The US AND the UN won't let that happen. If a massive offensive were ever tried against Israel the US would absolutely crush the aggressors, and I'd have no problem with that. My advice to Israel, if you really want peace then act like it. Get off other people's land and take your mines, missiles and supersonic overflights with you and either release or charge the people you have in your political prisons. Until Israel makes an effort towards peace I'm going to consider them terrorists. Who ever heard of a blood thirsty victim?

Oh, please. Now you are really into a dumb rant. Please tell me a single country that was seeking Democracy until the US stepped in and prevented it? You mean like Iran in the late 1970's? Iran in the '50's. How about the Palestinians in 2006? Haiti? Chili? Guatemala? My money's on Venezuela for the next one. Those last few weren't "preventions" but more like interferences.

Thanks for listing some of the reasons why the U.N. is seen as a useless joke by most Americans. Until we need them to clean up our messes.

Anyone out there editing with Sony Vegas and exporting to a VHS/DVD combo unit? If so, talk to me.....please. I just wasted a beautiful day NOT jumping and screwing with this crap instead. Anyone doing this sort of transfer successfully?
