  1. And quite appropriate for this thread, a real exercise in fear and loathing
  2. No. Not even close. If I were to attack Bush in the manner that Clinton was attacked I'd be going on about his past drug habits, his business failures, his eyes, his inability to make a coherent statement, his wife murdering her ex-boyfriend, his VP's defrauding of the taxpayer (actually that's a valid one so scratch that)....and then I'd start making stuff up. Bush's list of f ups has serious consequences to both the US and to the rest of world. Too bad it took so long for 1/2 of his supporters to realize that his presidency was a mistake.
  3. Yup...all those FBI files Laura has stashed in her office, right? Man, your Clinton fetish is in full bloom today! What's up? Saving "travel gate" for when we start a war with Iran and Syria Actually, I shouldn't make too much fun of this. I really do miss the days when Congress demanded accountability of the executive branch. Too bad we had to swing from one extreme (over 1000 subpeonas) to the other (zero).
  4. Sounds good to me. Make them pay the royalties that they're supposed to pay for drilling on Fed land, charge 'em the conservation fee too. Makes sense. People are already used to paying over $2/gal, higher prices are beginning to move the alternative energy development wheels into high gear, and thanks to global warming there's a significantly less demand for heating oil What's crazy has been this notion that we should exempt them from paying royalties while simultaneously giving them $billions/yr in taxpayer funded subsidies.
  5. I had another thought on the matter, but unfortunately it involves Congress. I suggest that we immediately implement a war tax to pay for this fiasco. The amount should be easy enough to figure considering that Bush has kept most of it off budget using "emergency" supplemental requests. Secondly, and this is an old idea, we take the DoD off budget and fund it like we do Social Security. I'd like the expense to show up on our pay stubs. Maybe then people will start holding government accountable for the money we give them and for their propensity to wage "wars" of choice.
  6. I hope this is real. And I hope she watches television. There's a commercial based on this exact scenario that does a pretty good job of making the kid look like a spoiled, worthless brat. I have no idea what the product is so I guess it wasn't that effective a commercial. If there's any justice in this world this is a few years old and her daddy was an executive at Enron. The bitch needs to spend some quality time wearing a paper hat and driving a deep fryer.
  7. Well, what do they normally do here in the US with inept executives who miserably fail their company? The give them the boot along with a huge golden parachute. I suggest we do the same thing, only over Iraq....with an actual golden parachute.
  8. Or when they unite against the US. The problem isn't Islam, it's the Islamic extremists. Unfortunately our administration is doing everything in its power to appear to add validity to bin Laden's claims. There may be an "Islamic reformation" but I think it may look more like mainstream Islam migrating towards the fringe. 2008 can't come soon enough. We desperately need a diplomat. Anyone else catch this latest asswhoopin' that Olberman dealt out? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16583889/
  9. I love "Scrubs". And I'll even admit publically that I like "my name is Earl"! But since we're on this honesty kick....I didn't actually watch the speech. I'm still going through the James Bond box set that I got for Christmas.
  10. Seems like he's only interested in reinforcing the fact that he doesn't like taking advice that runs contrary to his previously stated position, even if it has broad military and public support. I think he sees it as a sign of weakness. Hell, he even completely ignored his own (biological) father's advice. It looked to me like that the ISG's suggestions came out and he said "I can't do that, I have to stay the course and appear as a strong leader, regardless of what my Generals tell me. They can be replaced by people who will publically state that they agree with me. I'll find a yes man even if I have to hire Col Sanders to run the show. Besides, my career's looking pretty lousy. Maybe I can make the Democrats look bad by forcing them to threaten the purse strings. Turdblossom will be able to work with that in 2008".
  11. I think that Congress saw Saddam as a pest and of course, would like to have seen him gone. I think they also knew that the new administration had wanted to go after him for years and now that the Vulcans were in power that the call for war was only a matter of time. I think they also were aware of the unique relationship between the VP's office and the intelligence community. They allowed themselves to be sold the bill of goods, some more actively ignorant than others but all with the notion that "if the official pitch is good enough for us to dump the authority and responsibility in the lap of a President who desperately wanted it, and still keep our jobs, and still keep our jobs, and still keep our jobs, then......ok". I don't want to exclude the media's role either in helping them abdicate their responsibility. It was best described as complicity through complacency". The Washington Post even apologized for it, I believe it was printed on page C419....right between the ad for an escort service and an announcement of a public rezoning hearing.
  12. Ever heard of a case where an innocent defendant was declared guilty? Of course not, that could NEVER happen
  13. I think that part of the argument is that the 16th was never properly ratified by the required 3/4 yet Philander Knox declared it as such. I haven't read up on this in a while but I do know some folks who dug pretty deeply into it. I think they've given up due to frustration with their interaction with the government agencies, not because they ever found anything to dispute the "We the People" claim. Interestingly, I heard an interview on NPR between Diane Rehm and an IRS representative a few years ago. Apparently a caller got through and told them both about the $50K and that he had not had to pay his taxes in about five years. The he asked the IRS dude why he didn't simply clear up the mystery and claim the money for himself. They cut off the caller and Diane said that he should probably look into paying those back taxes. I thought the non response was interesting.
  14. Ain't that the truth? http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/energy/2007-01-03-global-warming_x.htm?csp=34
  15. From what I've read Daddy's original plan was to have Jeb go for the White House first and then maybe the boy George after that. Jeb losing his first FL gubernatorial election and George beating the odds and winning TX changed things around. Now, it looks like the dynasty will die nasty. Hopefully all that remains are two humbling years of lame duckedness. Throw Cheney and Rummy in there and we've got "Lame Turducken".
  16. I don't think that people should be jailed for expressing an opinion. In a free society you should be able to say whatever you want. Now if you say "I'm going to kill so and so" or "fire" then you're just asking for problems because there are potentially real consequences associated with the outburst. But I don't think that you should be thrown in jail for questioning history. I mean, should I be thrown in prison for saying "nawwww.....we weren't that mean to the Native American people. It wasn't as bad as all that"?
  17. Source? Who knew? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvin_Bush
  18. I agree. People need to be open minded when dealing with information that's being provided to them. Why, if people don't thoroughly analyze the the claims and cross reference with them with evidence they run the risk of reacting in an emotional knee jerk fashion which could get them into all sorts of undesirable situations, you know.....like a land war in Asia
  19. fixed it for you. I know you are better than those kids But only said the he "wanted to fuck them up". So I say "go ahead and want to fuck them up but don't, for two reasons. First you should let law enforcement handle it and secondly, don't do it because you can't afford as effective a lawyer as those well heeled hoodlums and they're probably going to counter sue you for some violation of civil rights or the like". Best just to wait for them to get drunk again and then shame the crap out of them and post it on youtube and make sure that their potential employers get the link
  20. It's possible, but it's more likely that the "chimneys" were simply allowing the warmer, partially combusted smoke to rise. Probably wouldn't take much to give you a lung full of crap. If the fire did burn long enough then the "chimneys" would warm up themselves actually increasing the draw of fresh air into the lower combustion chamber (just like a woodstove), you'd have more complete combustion and you wouldn't have as much thick black smoke. But honestly, even with complete combustion I have no idea how hot a jet-a fire would burn. I suppose I could look that up. Maybe after lunch.
  21. Just for argument's sake because I haven't watched the film, but I'm guessing that the cigarette you're referring to was probably measured in an open environment with some force drawing air through it. I guessing that the point the film makes probably has something to do with insufficient ventilation to allow for thorough combustion. Put that cigarette under a glass and see how hot and long it burns.
  22. High school students who didn't know how many cards are in a deck? That's just fucking stupid!!! Actually, it may not be that they're stupid, but more of a sign of the times. A high school senior was born when, 1988? How many young people play cards these days? How many have trouble with an analog clock face? How many know the significance of 33&1/3 How many know how to diagram a sentence?
  23. Personally I don't think that our side "took down" the towers but I can't say that I would completely dismiss the notion that they allowed it happen through deliberate inaction. I haven't looked into it too much but the conspiracy theory part of my mind keeps recalling the PNAC's letter on their desire to transform our military: Their quote: "the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event -- like a new Pearl Harbor." Just a little fuel for this fire so to speak
  24. Personally, I miss being called a "honkey"
