If a president did that, it would quadruple my desire to vote him in a 2nd term But why even bother speaking to the press when waterboarding is so much more fun.
-
If they're smart they'll grab up the platform planks that the R's dropped and peed on. Smaller more efficient government, less intrusion into citizen's lives, balanced budget and fiscal responsibility, no-nation building...it's there for the taking, especially the fiscal responsibility part. If they can't grab that one and run with it then they ARE inept.

That vice-Nazi is already in power. If Dubya left office, and Cheney became prez, the only change would be that the presidential speeches wouldn't be as dumb. Yea, but the press conferences would be more interesting! Helen Thomas: "Mr. President. You said earlier that.." President Cheney: "Go fuck yourself. Next question!"

Yea, that was my mistake. Unfortunately the level of national discourse rivals SC at times....easy to get them confused! -

Ooops. Sorry, were we talking about SC or the national dialog? If SC......I'd call it a 49/51 split -

I was going to let this sort of nonsense from you and NC slide but I just can't. "Hate, vitriol, bitchin, whinin', moanin'" blah blah blah, has been the RNC platform for at least the last 15 years! To even pretend otherwise is not only ludicrous but it insults the intelligence of anyone who reads it. When Gingrich and that bunch moved in to Congress even Republican leaders were voluntarily leaving Congress because of the level to which the discourse had been lowered. The near decade long personal assault on the Clintons and anyone who didn't toe the line, the demonization and willful misrepresentation of all things left of the arbitrary line... and then to have people try to insinuate that the R's somehow have been the poor victims of hatred and personal attacks?!?!?!? I can almost taste the bile! Part of me wants the same crap thrown right back at the R's so that they can taste their own medicine. Let's have the Dems hide all of the committee meetings, let 'em gavel out anything that the R's want to talk about, let 'em drop everything so that we can investigate Bush's travel, wardrobe and hair cut expenditures, etc. etc. And I'll bet that the R's are pretty damn happy that they didn't do away with the filibuster! Oooo....wow....if memory of the righteous right's take on a similar situation serves me, the Dems have a "mandate" so I guess that the "people have spoken" and the R's are "losers" and should "shut up and go home" because they were voted out so "tough luck, too bad, you don't get to set the agenda", our 51% means that we don't have to even acknowledge your 49%! Then the other part of me says "I'd like to think that our government is better than the most recent example". Time will tell but I honestly don't think it could get any worse. -

First of all, when Beck does't wear a tie the foreskin pops up over his head. That said, hopefully with a new Congress they'll actually start to debate alternatives. The alternatives posed by the Democrats were never even discussed and were simply labeled "cut and run" by the White House and the Republicans and the media simply repeated the catch phrases. I expect that there will be some changes. Some will come from the input that the Democrats will present and some will come from the right and the Bushies. I really believe that they would have changed course after this election even if the R's had held the House. Senator Warner made his own "cut and run" speech as did Baker's Iraq study group. Bush abandoned "stay the course" and went with "evolving tactics" so change was coming anyway. What it's going to look like, I have no idea. But lets hope that they actually try to talk about the issues and not revive the policy of personal attacks that plagued the 90's. What I'd like to see personally is, not necessarily in this order: 1)Revisit campaign finance reform and shove the K street project up Norquist's ass. 2)Change the agenda so that we actually debate spending bills instead of things like Terri Schiavo. And in the process get the earmarks reduced from 15,800 to zero. 3)Get Pat Roberts to get off his ass and hold the hearings on part two of the 9/11 commission report. 4)Move the "war" on terror back into Afghanistan where it still is. 5) (my personal wish with no chance of realization) Tell Israel that the purse strings are in someone else's hands now and to quit with the crap or we're cutting them off cold. 6) Oh yea, a very public vote of "no confidence" for the Defense Secretary. -
Easy there Mel.

It's not as profitable.

That's a weird one. I've never heard of a button on the back of a voting machine that can be manipulated. Does't sound very effective either. It requires that a poll worker do something to every machine after every vote, and do it right in front their coworkers and voters.

Or Texas. It's apparently been a problem for a few days. http://www.kfdm.com/engine.pl?station=kfdm&id=17343&template=breakout_dayportvideo.shtml&dateformat=%M+%e%2C%Y

Yep. On the way to work. Well, actually I have no idea whether or not I voted, or who got my vote. I pushed some buttons on a touch screen machine and made it go "bing". Not that I can prove it other than the sticker that they gave me. Still got my receipt from lunch though.

The verdict and judgment on Saddam is in...

Why is it "pathetic"? They've done it numerous times before. By now it should be considered "business as usual". http://mediamatters.org/items/200610260010 -
Yea, so do we. But he's a "stop raising taxes but let's triple the spending" candidate running for CONservative Senator here. Sounds like "The Monster Raving Looney Party" has jumped the pond. We should be so lucky Sadly, these are the choices we're given..... http://www.tshirthell.com/store/product.php?productid=786

In the narrow definition posted above, no. Do you want me to send you Cheney's 2001 map of how the oil fields were going to be split up? Seriously. It's one of the few documents that made it out of the energy task force meeting.

Mideast Terror Leaders to U.S. :Vote Democrat
idrankwhat replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
That conclusion apparently came from the CIA. I guess the right is going to just call that more "bad intel". -
I'm familiar with what it takes to be a pilot. I also know that having connections makes a big difference in where you go. And the not serving part was more of a reference to the whole awol debate.....which I really don't want to get into. I've already fallen victim to this thread's intention which is to continue in the great election tradition of not talking about issues of any real substance. Right now we're deep into a discussion that was pointless when it actually did involve the candidates. I posted an (ok, strongly worded) article with lots of specific examples about how this do-nothing-congress that's up for re-election has just plain sucked at their job and how we're getting the shaft because of them. That thread went 15 replies, most of which had nothing to do with the article. Now look at this thread. How many replies so far? This is precisely what the folks on the Right want us doing right now. They don't want us to talk about them so they lure us with sordid candy. And we take a bite. And I'm just as guilty of falling victim. But I think I'm done.

You're right. The records irrefutably show that he once showed up on base to get his teeth cleaned. He also piloted a plane near that treacherous Canadian airspace. Lucky to pull that one off and live to tell the tale. He's my hero. GWB's service is far more patriotic and admirable. Kerry's was reckless. I mean, following orders and going into a warzone. And I know that the only reason that he let those Vietnamese shoot at him was so he could get a medal and a purple heart. Selfish egotistical bastard! Look, both of them were more priviledged than the average American. One of them showed up and served in a warzone and the other didn't even bother to show up. Personally I don't really care about the service of either one of them but I think it's pretty lousy to attack Kerry on his service and glorify GWB's.

Or the corporate owned media? Is TV "the reflector or the director?" That is a good point. I guess this is what you get when news media values their shareholders more than their audience.

Or more importantly...thorough and referenced.
