Allright, I went back and re-read your post. It's better than most so I apologize for jumping to the conclusion that you were referring to more than just the extremists. Too many times in SC I've seen people readily substitute "Islam" for "radical Islamists". What I was really taking a shot at was the HannityRushBeck reference. So on behalf of the couple of hours sleep that my 4 mo old let me have last night, sorry about the Islam mix up but I'm sticking to the "courage of my convictions" with regard to disinformation radio.

I feel that way when I hear Tom Petty sing "Freefallin' " Or "I was skaaaaaahhhhhhdahviiiinnnnn, rocky mou...." ...oh, god...

How did you know that I'd rather masturbate with a cheese grater?
-
And you wonder why I didn't respond?

Because basically I'm kinda busy today and I don't feel like discussing the issue, that being what basically turns out to be Islamophobia that's fueled by ignorance peddlers who are only interested in hearing themselves talk. That said, I'll state that right now we are not in a battle with "Islam". However, if we don't educate ourselves about other cultures, be honest about our culpability, change our foreign policy and stop the US's social de-evolution, we may very well start that war.
-
They're ignorance peddlers who are in the business for the money and their egos, and they do you a disservice. Just because they say things that agree with your predisposition doesn't mean that they're accurate. You have just proven you do not listen to any of them. Bzzzzzt. Wrong.

I had to turn it off shortly after he made his comments regarding earmarks. I'm trying to figure that one out. Did he make those statements because he didn't want the Democratic leadership to appear to take the lead on fiscal responsibility, trying to steal their thunder so to speak? Because he actually wants to be fiscally responsible and now sees the error of his ways? He's worried about his legacy and wants to muddy the historical waters? Or because he doesn't give a crap about earmarks if they're written by R's but is not about to put up with D's raiding the Treasury? I vote for "most of the above".

My Opinions on the State of the Union Address
idrankwhat replied to unformed's topic in Speakers Corner
Unformed, that was outstanding! I swear I could hear music in the background while I read it. -
Hopefully they will. I think it's a great idea and the only thing that would ruin it would be for the chairman to stand up in front of the group at the hospital and give a speech supporting Bush's war plan. Hope that doesn't happen. Of course there's the distinct possibility that many of them may just graduate, and get elected so that they can then propose multiple $70 million off budget spending requests FOR THE TROOPS....which acutally provide $15 million for the troops and $55 million for the multinational contractors working through K street. Yea, I'm cynical....but they make it soooooooo easy.
-
Nope, just pointing out the subject of the article and the fact that the troops are being used, again. Your original post illustrated it perfectly. Bitch about the chickenhawks plea for war support and somehow that translates a pitiful lack of support for the wounded soldiers.
-
Interesting. That's for pointing this out because I might have missed it. 238 words in the article, 189 of which are calling for people to back Bush's plan for Iraq. There's the reason for the letter. Then you have the 49 words calling on people to visit the soldiers. So it looks to me that the group is using the wounded soldiers to help rally for their agenda. Very sad indeed.

Maybe "corrupted" is not the right word. "Compromised" fits better. And the problem stems from the fact that if he, or anyone else is going to make a serious run at the WH then they're going to have to raise at least a couple hundred million dollars. Take the money out of our politics and we might actually have "seasoned statesmen" in office one day. Until that happens we're stuck with the best (and worst) politicians money can buy. Are you saying that ALL Politicians become corrupt eventually? If so, I'd have to disagree. I think people with character flaws and low morality are the ones who become corrupt. Ive always liked what JC Watts once said: "Character is doing the right thing, even when nobody is watching". I'm a scientist. I never say "all"....or never That being said, I'll say what I said. I think "corrupted" is the wrong word (most of the time). I think politicians are forced to compromise themselves due to the fact that they can't get elected in this system without accepting bribe money. And forget what I said about "never" and "all". All campaign money is bribery.

I think the was the whole point of the post was to avoid the "NOT" comments. One thing I've learned in the last six years is to go ahead and state the obvious because there's a good chance that it's not so obvious to the folks in charge. Besides, it doesn't matter how good the plan to secure Iraq is if we go to war with Iran. The point would be what a cow thinks.
-
That's a tough question, there's a lot to consider. But while I was hammering out a solution my first step would be to NOT start a war with Iran and Syria and to threaten economic sanctions on any country who does.
-
Yea, you get someone who can pronounce "nuclear"

That's right, that's what it was about which is why I don't understand how anyone can compare Clinton's mistakes to Bush's mistakes. Clinton's dealt with potentially non-consensual, questionably legal sexual relations with one person. Bush's deal with non-consensual, questionably legal relations with numerous countries. Sadly, only one of these scenarios apparently warrants investigation. Hopefully that will change very soon.
-
It's a reasonable strategy. The R's have been kissing Bush's ass for six years, to simply call them enablers would be an understatement. They deserve to be associated with him in the next election regardless of how they try to distance themselves over the next year and a half. Sadly, I really don't think it matters who wins the next election. The hangover from this administration will kill 'em regardless of whether they're R's or D's. I predict a one term.
-
Pro tax cuts and grand poobah of notion of "churchnstate". Other than that, the only thing that resembles the ideology of the "right" is (R) after his name and the fact that the party he says he represents kissed his ass for six years because they stood to profit from it. And personally, I think Bush should change that (R) to an (F). I'm going to be interested to see how the history books deal with this dark age that this administration has brought on. I'm willing to bet that Woodward has some story about Cheney going to Bush in the late 90's saying "C'mon boy, let's go profiteering" but Bush interpreting that as "C'mon boy, let's go propheteering"

It was. I guess someone decided that they needed more data for whatever reason. http://itpolicy.princeton.edu/voting/

That's pretty good! You summarized Bush's Iraq policy in one single sentence

Aside from Dubya's mother, you are the only person on the PLANET who believes he's either a great leader or worthy of a comparison to Winston Churchill. My God. Then I am in great company. "They think I'm crazy, but I know better. It is not I who am crazy, it is I who am MAD! Can't you hear them? Can't you see the crowds? Oh, my beloved ice cream bar. How I love to lick your creamy center! And your oh-so-nutty chocolate covering! You're not like the others, you like the same things I do! Wax paper, boiled football leather- DOG BREATH! We're not hitch-hiking anymore! We're riding!... Oh no! I know what you want! You've coveted my ice cream bar! No you don't! You can't take it from me now! I've had it ever since I was a child. Everywhere I go, people always try to take it from me! Why won't they leave.. me.. ALOOONNNNNE!!!
