"No one tried to be a Hero..." Be one darn it!!!

Some lay down and do nothing, others later pound their chests and rant in discussion groups from the safety of their homes...not much difference really. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -
Why I believe that our rights are worth the risk

Nope. Neither you nor I have sufficient information to make a call on this case. All I know is what I read in the article. Was she a manipulative bitch or someone who made a mistake and blurted out the only defense that seemed possible in a moment of panic ...I don't know. My comments were more general concerning the status of women in Texas (and apparently Arkansas ) where a man killing another man (after the fact) for violating his property (my point about how women are viewed in Texas) is pretty much free from repurcussions while some characterize the woman (on no more information than the brief article) as being spineless and manipulative and subject to criminal charges while the man pulling the trigger is viewed as a hero led astray. The soon to be deceased was in his truck and driving away. Neither the man, his wife, nor his other property were reported in any danger. I can't see the blame being solely one or the other. From the Handbook of Texas Online: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/SS/jss1.html The most significant residuum of Spanish law is in the area of family relationships ... This adoption of Hispano-Mexican principle has spread from Texas with varying degrees of liberality to other states. Texas law also followed the Hispanic model of allowing the husband to protect the home by giving him the right to kill his wife's paramour without punishment. OK, Texas and Arkansas. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

Women are 'protected' in Texas ...meaning that they are not allowed the full rights, privledges and respect that men receive. Texas is not a place where a woman should do anything outside what other Texans consider appropriate without fear of severe repurcussions. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

Dude! The have been above the law for seven years now. They've trashed the Bill of Rights till the only things left are guns, religion and the right not to house British troops. It's a sad time for America. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This March 24, 2007: Neo cons are encouraging their supporters, who can write, to get on American web sites and pretend to be friends or family members of American soldiers or marines. The "media patriots" are instructed to tell stories in line with Americans not supporting American troops. Things like soldiers being called "baby killers" and 'murderers". The media patriots are instructed to make it sound like they are simply passing on what they have heard passed on from returning soldiers or read in the media. They are also instructed to keep messages simple, so as not to betray the are semi-illiterate dolts blindly following their leaders. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

BBC reports that Pessimism 'growing among Iraqis'
jenfly00 replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
After years of watching our military mired down, no realistic goals in sight, and taking more and more casualities, just about all the left and most of the middle ...and about goddamned time too! The right had their shot ...they blew it. You just don't get it............ I will try again. Why is our military held back? What happens it they go in full force and there is colateral damage? Who or, what side keeps their yaps flapping with full support of a lapdog media that condems what always happens in a war? Give an honest answer to this question and you will get it. Kill em all. Let Allah sort em out. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -

Dude, you are the guy that was pumping up a minor statistical decrease of American deaths in Iraq yet continue to oppose the majority of the world's scientists on global warming?? Your agreement or disagreement seems to depend on political alliance. And you follow the bs montra as highlighted above and twist details to suit your position. I only posted the info. But I understant that the left has to avoid a win Iraq at all costs. Why? One only need look where they have hung their political hat to understand that. Want to try again?? Well, speaking for "the left", I would love to see a 'win' in Iraq. Pissing me off as much as going there to begin with was fucking it up when we got there. If we were going to go to war then let's, by god, go to war and kick ass! I suspect many on "the left" would have been more supportive if we handn't, once again, demonstrated our incompetence. History will perhaps remember Bush less for bad decisions and dishonesty and more for being a loser. American hates losers. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -

MSNBC Says Wounded Veterans Living in Filth
jenfly00 replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Here's one basis, http://www.itv.com/news/wounded_51a899b7b687f160bac57d92bcdfbc81.html. Also, I've greeted, spoken to, and/or seen visitors who come to WRAMC to see how to improve their own facilities. These visitors have come from emerging to well developed nations, including UK, ROK, Russia, Pakistan to name a few. Plus, WRAMC sends its staff (mostly GS employees) to other countries to provide care or treatment that isn't available otherwise. One recent example is my prosthetist went to Germany to make equipment for amputee NATO soldiers injured in Afghanistan (soldiers from Romania, and one other eastern European country I can't recall). The US is the only country with a dedicated Veterans arm in the government, with dedicated Veterans treatment facilities. The article in the OP points out some problems that I will say do exist, and need improvement. Does that mean WRAMC is not living up to its promise? No. Thanks for the response. I had interpreted your first response as comparing VA medical care to US civilian hospitals. In Miami, the VAH is staffed primarily by interns (from Jackson Memorial Hospital, across the street) attempting to learn the basics of medical care. Bright and motivated, they just don't know much about medicine. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -

Re: [LouDiamond] I'm not disputing your statements, but I'm curious ...how do you know this? I've been a patient (wounded) and recovering there for nearly a year. As I said, I'm glad you are getting good treatment. That doesn't explain the basis for your comparative statements. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -

Alcohol and cocaine can both be used in moderation, but they both have the potential to be addictive. The main difference is that one is a legal depressant and the other is an illegal stimulant. They are both mood-altering drugs, different effects but similar potencies. Saying that cocaine is to alcohol as nuclear weapons are to handguns doesn't seem like a very accurate analogy to me. I don't have much personal experience with either drug. Over the years, I've seen lives ruined by both. With alcohol, however, I've observed most users to live seemingly good lives with a few developing problems. With coke, it's just the opposite. The vast majority experienced significant problems with money, relationships, employment and emotional stability. With crack or freebasing, it's 100%. I won't use coke and don't want to be around anyone who does. Alcohol? I don't drink but don't mind being around those who use moderately. I have, however, heard just about every thing drunks have to say and don't care much for more of the same. Pot? Smoke em if you got em.
