    I have no issue with either of your points ...they just aren't related to mine. My comments were concerning ...how such things can start. They start somewhere. With the possible exception of military coups, they don't spring, full blown, into the historical atrocities I referred to. They start by otherwise good people reacting instinctually to a problem (real or perceived) without the inclination or ability to look down the road and see the consequences. Regarding the US, I am most concerned with the progressively functional dissolution of the Bill of Rights and wonder if the knuckle draggers and club pounders will be able to look back and see what they contributed to. While I have opinions about our war in Iraq, I am far more concerned with what our government has done and is doing at home. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

    Hitler began his rise to power by blaming the labor unions for the nation's economic woes(blaming and killing Jews came only after the patriots entrenched his power.     my thoughts exactly. I had an Alzheimer's patient ex-Nazi. tell everyone about his experience. he said that the Nazi's came into his school and asked for volunteers. Those who didn't volunteer, weren't heard from again. So he volunteered.     I was referring to the etiology of national and curtural shifts. They don't just spring up out of the blue. In the beginning, at least, you have a strong leader and loyal patriots who love their country. These 'instinctual mind' types are easily swept up in nationalism ...jingoists, if you will. Then they start eroding national and personal freedoms ...in the name of national and personal freedoms. Once starting down that slippery slope, where does it go?     Last night, I watched 'James Cameron's Expedition'. It was a documentary and undersea exploration of the Bismark. Along with the film crew were several survivors of the Bismark. Here's what really struck me. One of the survivors stated that, at the time, they "were absolutely convinced it was the right thing to do" Hitler had captured their hearts and minds and they felt strong and proud. They felt they had a great leader with a clear vision of what needed to be done. They were patriots. Looking back, over 60 years later, they realize the insanity of it all and how they were led beyond morality and reason. I log onto this forum and re-read some comments by our resident jingoists concerning Bush and his vision, and I wonder ...what will their historical perspective be? ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".
