  1. I wonder if some folks realize that there were round canopy Accuracy Gold Medalists? Course, you had to be good at spotting and canopy control.
  2. You have a choice in the matter?!??!? I think at this point, you're only choice "might" be depending on your medical coverage is which physical therapist you're going to see. I vote: Attempt a great PLF/R
  3. The only thng you need to learn is this: Surround yourself with really good NCO's, give them the objective; turn them loose; and stay the hell outta their way.
  4. 45th Company May 1980 Honor Graduate. Went thru with a bunch of Seals. When they barked, the Blackhats would get pissed and make us do more pushups. While in the front leaning rest, one of the Blackhats said, "I'm going to break you Seals of barking in my formation!" While my arms are burning, I'm thinking, "I really want to go into battle with you, genius."
  5. Well, we know you will work for less than minimum wage....
  6. aahhhh.... OK, I'm with you. Because there is controversy in the subject, he could fight for their right to marry. I see. Good point. I'm thinking, "Yeah, why not?" They're going to hire someone in that scenario.
  7. Why is it necessary to segment "marriage" in the field of law? Would you specialize in inter-racial, black, asian, or hispanic marriages? Instead of "branding" yourself in the phone book as specializing in gay marriage - Why wouldn't you open yourself to networking opportunities in the gay community and other multiple segments where your reputation is as a great family law attorney for "any marriage?"

    YAY....

You're going to decide who needs to be laid off before they lay you off.
  9. You have some good ratings and jump numbers. Please don't allow DZ nonsense to subrogate your own professionalism. As a professional, you would be welcome at most DZs. Moving on and remaining professional will say more about you than lashing out broad generalities in an open forum.
  10. May not pertain to you, but as an FYI in general - If less than 100 Tandems on another system, Strong requires the whole course.
  11. I stand corrected.....
  12. Dave, thank you for starting this thread, this is a great demonstration of this forum's intent. Since Safety Day is upon us; this is a good subject for review at the DZ this Saturday. Ask yourself what would you do if: DOOR CLOSED 1. If main, small A/C, and little experience... Then; 2. If main, small A/C, and experienced... Then; 3. If main, large A/C, and little experience... Then; 4. If main, large A/C, and experienced... Then; 5. If reserve, small A/C, Then; 6. If reserve, large A/C, Then; DOOR OPEN 1. If main, small A/C, little experience and a. pilot chute or material inside... b. Then; c. Pilot chute or material leaves d. Then; 2. If main, small A/C, experienced and a. Pilot chute or material inside… b. Then; c. Pilot chute or material leaves d. Then; 3. If main, large A/C, little experience and a. Pilot chute or material inside… b. Then; c. Pilot chute or material leaves d. Then; 4. If main, large A/C, experienced and a. Pilot chute or material inside… b. Then; c. Pilot chute or material leaves d. Then; 5. If reserve, small A/C, a. Pilot chute or material inside… b. Then; c. Pilot chute or material leaves d. Then; 6. If reserve, large A/C, a. Pilot chute or material inside… b. Then; c. Pilot chute or material leaves d. Then; My suggestion is not to necessarily respond to the thread, but to suggest that one might copy/paste into a separate document for consideration and discussion of what "you" might do in these situations. There are other variables to consider; like is the skydiver a student under the guidance of an Instructor, is the Instructor aware of the situation, etc. As Derek often says: "Think."
  13. That looks about right... One guy with a tractor and sixteen skydivers supervising... [edited to read as: giving their emotional support to those working hard]
  14. Any reason you couldn't carry a dual major in Marketing and Computer Science? One compliments the other greatly and as technology continues, the two will merge closer and closer.
  15. Tested it and got the same message. You may wish to report in the "Bugs" forum
  16. I voted, "Yes." Overall general health and well-being is far more important than 1) looking and feeling disproportionate, 2) can cause back pain and other issues, 3) can result in mild cases of scoliosis over time, 4) If one has the choice for enhancement, why should they not have the choice to to get a reduction.. I would support reduction far quicker than enhancement.
  17. Scott, I'd like to address this. Its not so much that what you said was inappropriate; as much as saying anything to a student is inappropriate. It is very difficult on a busy day to sort out; 1) what another skydiver "suggested" as BS, from one of credence, and 2) even the smallest kind gesture can cognitively result in a student lacking confidence in the Instructor or situation. Let me give you an example. I was taking a student on a static-line jump. During the training, I noticed the student had ignored the recommendation to wear sneakers. In talking with a "back-in-the-day" Airborne graduate (whom I did not know) about going on a jump was told not to wear sneakers; but to wear boots. And of course, the boots had hooks. While I'm off getting some duct tape, another skydiver starts off on the student about how they can't jump today because they have hooks on their boots. So, 1) they didn't do as recommedend - FUBAR number 1. Then I come back to "Well, so & so says I can't jump today because I wore boots with hooks." OK, now I have to undo that. After a day of undoing FUBARS the frustration meter pegs out and being human, you reach the point of thermonuclear. Ya know... being an instructor or staff is a difficult task. One can have all the waivers in place, but most of the instructors I know still have an overwhleming sense of personal responsibility to ensure that student has a safe skydive. Factor in the number of "undo's" and external variables that can reduce confidence in the Instructor and the result is; your communication style can change from nice guy to Drill Sergeant in about an eighth of a second. In the end, we always wind up apologizing. Not so much for the message, but for the tone. Wanna make an Instructor or staff love you? When approached by a student; no matter what the reason - tell the student, "Ya know, you have a guy/girl that has gone through a lot of training to get that rating and has been training skydivers for a long time. What ever they say - do that." Unless you, of course, see an immediate safety related issue and even then... if you have the opportunity - take the Instructor or Coach aside and point it out. Now - give us a break, an occasional hug and point the students back to us if approached. That's all we ask.
  18. I reviewed http://outlook.4team.biz/ and http://www.workgroupshare.com/ today. 4team is ~$39.95 & workgroupshare is ~$149.00.
  19. 1. After you've placed the rig on the ground to adjust the MLW, does it have you chewing on the chest strap on the very next jump, or does it appear to work its way up over a series of jumps? 2. Is the webbing on either side of the MLW adjustment (within the range of adjustment) considerably shinier or smoother than the rest of the webbing? 3. How old is this rig?
  20. The Impact of Beauty and Its Self-Fulfilling Nature by Mark Snyder, Elizabeth Decker Tanke, and Ellen Berscheid (1977). Experiment Cover Story Male participants were told that they were in an investigation of "how people become acquainted with each other" and each one of them had been assigned a female partner, with whom they were to get acquainted through phone conversations. But before talking, each male was given a photograph of his female partner. Experiment Control The truth is, the girl on the photograph viewed by the male participant was not his female partner in the experiment. For half of the male participants, the picture showed a very attractive woman; for the others, it showed a relatively unattractive woman. But it was the same woman they all later had a conversation. Procedure After the conversation, the male participants were asked to rate their female partner. Independent observers, who had never seen the photograph, were allowed to listen to a tape recording of only the woman's half of the conversation. Results 1. As predicted, the male participants who thought they were talking with an attractive partner rated her as more poised, humorous, and socially adept than did those who thought they were talking with a less attractive woman. 2. Surprisingly, the independent observer, who had no idea whether the woman was attractive or not, also rated her more positively, when her conversation partner was given a beautiful photograph of "hers". They rated her as more attractive, more confident, more animated, and warmer than the woman whose partner thought her to be less beautiful.
  21. It would be very difficult for anyone to give you advice without watching you land. It really takes someone to watch you land and take corrective action right there. Try to get an instructor, coach or S&TA to observe your landing.
  22. Hey!! You take your hands off him!!!! What happened to the love? I thought we had an understanding. We just talked about this the other day... He's mine!! hehe
  23. Man, we have got to increase the Ranger budget. That's how I got started too, bro. 50cc mini bike that I spray painted black.
