I have been playing chess for quite some time. I love speed chess. Specifically, one minute games (1,0). IMO, the best learning tool is Chessmaster. Please understand that chess is not like most board games where there is a little skill and more a certain amount of luck to win (dominoes as an example). Chess is about acquiring a knowledge database of moves and strategies that can take years to develop. Please realize that every time you lose, you haven't lost, you've learned what not to do. It's this learning of what not to do that eventually changes (as your knowledge database grows) into what to do to prevent a bad move. Chess is not so much about who is better, as much as it is about who makes the first mistake. You can put two chessmasters at a table and someone HAS to lose (a draw/stalemate can be a lose depending on rules - both lose points from the overall score ranking). If one has the personality of needing to learn how to win in a few days or weeks, then they will not stick with chess. Some people have spent their whole lives learning chess. The key is to enjoy the intricacies of a good game, not the win.

Just some friendly advice... You have a degree in automotive, you're a mechanic and are sick of trucks. Are you sick of trucks or are you sick of being a mechanic? It's an important question cause mechanc'ing is mechanic'ing whether its on trucks or airplanes. Hate to see you spend "X" dollars to get your A & P only to find yourself sick of working on airplanes. Moving around ain't the same as going somewhere. Just some friendly advice from someone who's been there. Used to be in computers. Got tired of hardware. Thought I'd try software programming. Learned SQL. Spent two years programming. Got tired of it. Went back to hardware. Got tired of it quicker the second time.

Sounds like someone missed two of the first four points of contact. It's not feet, butt.

It has been tossed around more than once. THere are good and bad sides to that coin. I "think" HH is going to keep it as a blip on the radar scope, but not hit any buttons for awhile.

You can go to your local carpet store and get a remnant for free. Poke two holes for each shoulder and slip some twine thru the holes and WallAAHH! Instant packing mat. About thirty cents.

The world population doubled three times last century. I don't think there's going to be a slow down in folks making babies any time soon.

It's far better to be a dick and save a life, than shrug your shoulders and say, "Well, they're adults and it's their choice." While the freedom to choose is the freedom to choose unwisely, it does not mean that one has the right to choose poorly. When there are other folks in the sky with you that you may jeopardize or who will be emotionally impacted when they bounce, I choose being a dick. Course my nick is...

I was working at a DZ and divorced father showed up with his daughter, they read the waiver, he signed, she signed. The DZO introduced me as their Instructor. I asked the Dad, "Who has custody of her? "Her mother, but we're not going to tell her until afterwards and show her the video." Another time, a stepfather showed up with his stepdaughter and wanted to sign the waiver. I told him that he could not sign for her. His response was; "But, I'm the one supporting her." I will NOT train anyone in any instructional method until they reach the age of majority. In most states, a parent cannot sign for a minor agreeing to waive certain rights.
