  6. American Apparently Tortured Before Death By BUSHRA JUHI, Associated Press Writer 49 minutes ago BAGHDAD, Iraq - An American aid worker taken hostage with three other peace activists was apparently tortured before he was shot in the head and chest and his body dumped near a railroad line in Baghdad, Iraqi police said Saturday. Tom Fox, a 54-year-old member of Christian Peacemaker Teams from Clear Brook, Va., was the fifth American hostage killed in Iraq. There was no immediate word on his fellow captives, a Briton and two Canadians. The U.S. command in Baghdad confirmed that Fox's body was picked up by American forces on Thursday evening, although it provided no information on the condition. Interior Ministry Lt. Col. Falah al-Mohammedawi said Fox was found with his hands tied and gunshot wounds to his head and chest. There were cuts on his body and bruises on his head, indicating torture, he said. The corpse was dressed in Iraqi-made clothing. Fox's body was found near a railway line in Dawoudi, a mixed Sunni-Shiite area that has been largely shielded from violence. Shocked local residents on Saturday condemned Fox's abduction and killing. "These acts are terrorist ones and will hinder the political process and distort the reputation of Iraq," said Dhamir al-Samaraie, who had come to see where Fox was found. The previously unknown Swords of Righteousness Brigades claimed responsibility for kidnapping the four Christian Peacemaker Teams members, who disappeared Nov. 26. Three of them _ Canadians James Loney, 41, and Harmeet Singh Sooden, 32; and Briton Norman Kember, 74 _ were seen in a video dated Feb. 28 that was broadcast Tuesday on Al-Jazeera television. Fox did not appear in the brief, silent videotape. In the West Bank, many Palestinians expressed sorrow over the killing of Fox, who had traveled there to protest for their cause before he was taken hostage in Iraq. "I'm calling for the kidnappers to release the other hostages," said Hisham Sharabati, a human rights activist who met Fox. "This killing harmed the Palestinian and Iraqi causes because the hostages were working for peace." At least 250 foreigners have been kidnapped in the nearly three years since U.S.-led forces invaded Iraq, and at least 40 have been killed. "We mourn the loss of Tom Fox, who combined a lightness of spirit, a firm opposition to all oppression, and the recognition of God in everyone," Doug Pritchard and Carol Rose, co-directors of Chicago-based Christian Peacemaker Teams, said in a statement. Americans killed were Ronald Schulz, 40, an industrial electrician from Anchorage, Alaska; Jack Hensley, 48, a civil engineer from Marietta, Ga.; Eugene "Jack" Armstrong, 52, formerly of Hillsdale, Mich.; and Nicholas Berg, 26, a businessman from West Chester, Pa. 8. 100,000 March in Favor of Immigrant Rights By KAREN HAWKINS, Associated Press Writer 2 hours ago CHICAGO - Hoisting American flags into the air, tens of thousands of immigrants from the Chicago area marched downtown in a display of support for immigrant rights as a bill to stiffen border enforcement awaits action in the U.S. Senate. Many took up enthusiastic chants like "Si, se puede (Yes, it can be done)" and "La raza unida nunca sera vencida (A people united will never be defeated)." The mostly Latino marchers Friday descended upon the plaza across from the federal courthouse, where they listened to speeches backing pro-immigrant legislation. "Raise those American flags!" shouted U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, a Democrat. "This is our country, and this is where we will stay." Police estimated that more than 100,000 marchers came from all over the Chicago area, many carrying _ or wearing _ Mexican and American flags. The protest was spirited, but peaceful, and there were no reported arrests or incidents. The legislation, already passed by the U.S. House, is billed as a border protection, anti-terrorism and illegal immigration control act. It includes such measures as enlisting military and local law enforcement help in stopping illegal entrants and authorizes the building of a fence along parts of the U.S.-Mexico border. Gov. Rod Blagojevich addressed the crowd in Spanish, telling them he is the son of immigrant parents and understands their issues. The Democrat's proclamation that "ustedes no son criminales. Ustedes son trabajadores" ("You are not criminals. You are workers") brought loud cheers. Abigail Marquez, 35, said she came to the rally with her husband and teenage son to express her support for Latino issues. The native of Guadalajara, Mexico said she did not expect so many people to participate in the march, organized by dozens of activist groups. "I had no idea. There are just so many people here," she said in Spanish. "I feel very happy because it shows that we are all united." The march began at noon at a park several miles west of the downtown Loop business district. Hours later, marchers still thronged the Loop, clogging streets and tying up traffic. By early evening, traffic had returned to near-normal levels, police said. Abel Nunez, associate director of a social service agency that was one of many organizations spearheading the event, said the goal was "to demonstrate to people that immigrants are here and we contribute to this country." The Illinois Minuteman Project, affiliated with a national volunteer civilian border patrol group, held a news conference before the march began. State director Rosanna Pulido said she does not want to see Chicago become a "sanctuary city" for illegal immigrants. Nationally, the illegal immigrant population has grown from about 8.4 million in 2000 to nearly 12 million, according to a new report. "There are 14 million underemployed Americans," she said. "Don't they have the right to have a better life and support their families? Let's give them an opportunity because this is their country." ___ Associated Press Writer Nathaniel Hernandez contributed to this report. Quote Well what do you think should be done?....let's hear it
  9. were they truly Albanians?...were they Albanian citizens?...or were they Muslim seperatists that wanted to take awya part of a soveriegn nation?... I can see both sides easily I also know that after the Kosovo operation led by the UN that the "ethnic albanians" went on an unchecked ethnic clensing of their own just as they had done in the past to claim Kosovo a Serbian state as their own. The Serbians went way, way over the line The "Ethnic Albanians were wrong to start with" what can be learned from all this?... Violence is wrong and illegal immigrants should never try and take away a sovereign nations land it's nearly as if Arizona was taken over by illegal immigrants, who then went on a murder spree and tried to take Arizona as their own country. Then the US Troops tried to evict them. Vigilantes went on an ethnic cleansing spree, and then NATO forces bombed the US for trying to take their own state back. Fucked up all the way around huh?

  19. George Bush has ordered the ice fields to be diminished by 18% globally...grrrrrrr those damn right wingers!!! and all their damn Margaritas! actually couldn't an ice density study be dome via IR wavelength scans since the ice is over an ocean of consititent temperatures over a given time period? also the density of the ice itself is a factor, the more dense ice (blue ice) will occupy less volume than softer ice mass...correct?
