Maybe you could take an economics 101 course $200K in November 1971 is equivalent to just over a milliion dollars now - $1,059,594 to be precise. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Did you all see the video posted in the "WWII airborne" thread in this forum? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Hey Jerry - sorry about the ribs - hope you heal well! Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

"tease" mode? is that what you call it?? she should have listened to sluggo. to me it sounds more like padded cell mode Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Um, OK. Best you listen to the mouse. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

near certainty (probability above 99%) is 57, but more than 23 will give you a better than 50% chance - that may be what you are thinking of. i discover it now even has its own wiki page...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthday_problem georger must despair even more at the mathematical illiteracy of the masses, when it is all available to them over the internet!!! btw - did you guys know that there is a page on the MIT website that allows anyone to download lecture notes and sometimes videos of lectures, for free? I think that is really cool. I guess there are probably other top schools that do that too. edit: here is the MIT page http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/home/home/index.htm list of faculties down the left, i have only looked at the finance type stuff so far so cannot vouch for what is on the others Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Bless you Bruce. That is priceless. You really should read G's reference. It should make it clear that those lottery near misses were unremarkable and no better than random. On second thought maybe it won't convince you. 377 Even a smattering of understanding about probability theory goes a long way to helping understand things like that. But I'm sure this is why many people keep buying the tickets - because they "almost had it". (I'm not trying to sound elitist or arrogant ...as a certain erstwhile poster was wont to do ... i think most people are capable of stats 1??) My favourite statistical parlour game (nerd huh) is getting non-stats trained people to guess how many people you need in a room before you can be almost certain of two having their birthdays on the same day Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

No, based on the fact that nylon seems to burn extremely well and would have presumably increased the chances of being spotted. If Cooper didn't go up in flames with it. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
OK, so chances are he didn't burn the rig. I think 377 is right - it is still out there somewhere. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Precisely - in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, you have never faltered in your belief, so you have to resort to some way over the top conspiracy theory (anyone look back and see the hundred different angles of this. ranging from MLK to freemasons to smokejumpers) to justify it. Believing something, no matter how faithfully and sbsolutely, doesn't make it true. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

There are none so deaf as those who will not hear. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Vague definitions are . . . vague. Define "near future". Is that anything like "the end is near"? Jo's definitions of things like the "near future", "evidence" and "proof" seem to be very different from anyone else's. I'm still hoping to hear from Pete if he had heard about the 727 jumptests while he was in Asia... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Don't believe I've heard that before... very interesting. If they had been passed into circulation they would not have been picked up as Cooper money even if they did end up somewhere where they would be checked... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
How will it not get you to the ground?? just jumping out a plane will get you to the ground - you don't need any sort of parachute Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Speak for yourself in limiting what Pete talks about - I want to hear everything! Oh and off that subject something occurred to me the other nigh (though not worth a post on its own so tacked on here)... after Duane died you married someone else, right? And only much later started looking in earnest into the Cooper story as I recall? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
If Quade bans everyone else, and 377 keeps posting, then he will be the first post on p666. However he will have to make sure he keeps his 5 or so pages of posts fairly close to the Cooper subject! i actually thought we were generally managing to keep it pretty much on topic? (or is it just that the offtopic posts are the ones I tend to ignore?) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
maybe not really surprising , considering he was jumping and in nam at the relevant time? ...add the fact his interest in the case and probably looking for some of the guys? wanna bet someone like ... uh, earl cossey or ted mayfield probably knew a good number of the suspects too? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Bruce, thanks again for some interesting stuff. 377 is right of course pointing out there is "proof" civilians were also searching for DB... I guess we just can't discount that someone might have found him. I would also be very interested to know if Pete knew about the 727 tests in Asia... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

I see your clowns are labelled J, G, H and M. J for Jo, G for Georger .... who are H and M? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Hi Sheridan, welcome to the thread. it's great to have you around. Snow is right, a couple of us thought you were a great fit for a hypothetical profile
-
I have a link to the book. I don't have time to read it. The FBI lifted the DNA sample off the tie in 2001. I don't know when they did the first tests vs suspect DNA, but I'm sure they didn't just hang around for 6 years waiting to be hounded about Duane. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Georger didn't think Petey fitted the sketch. But then we have 377 etc telling us that culprits often don't look like their sketches. Why am I also calling him Petey? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Wouldn't be the first time someone has kept quiet about a crime they know about until they've been crossed/seek revenge...? re the brother - agree that it sounds like sour grapes. maybe started off scared, then envious that the older brother went off and did all sorts of "real man" stuff. (doesn't prove anything about the cooper case though) and yeah...i'd rather get evidence about when dna testing was done from the fbi, thanks very much. see, duane hasn't been the only person they ever tested (gasp). also, they must have thought something about petey was important - carr said before that, because of time/hassle etc vs priority of case - they only did dna tests in the cooper case if it seemed like a good suspect (except duane where they were hounded to by jo) - which is why they didn't bother with christiansesn. must be killing jo that she can't discredit petey on the basis of the dna because then her own argument about duane and the dna falls apart! and yes petey is SO much more ...fitted to the part than duane. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Yeah, in the Bible too. Maybe that prophecy was actually about Cooper... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

We knew the Wulfsohn family - I don't particularly remember Richard, but I think they were all related. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
