  1. OK, my turn to do the dumb blonde bit. Is "Paperlegs" now a Cooper suspect? Fits the nice profile we had figured out a good while ago :) (ref all the old posts on smokejumpers/CIA/air america etc)... someone most of us would assume would survive the jump. Anyone know if he was ever questioned by the FBI? Anything that might hint at some money coming in? Whereabouts at the time of the hijack? Exposure to 727 tests? ... some digging maybe... where's Bruce?! As 377 said a while ago - seem to be lots of people who fit the profle, just a matter of finding them! 2. Would definitely notice the accent i.e not American; but many Americans for some reason seem unable to distinguish between an (English) south african accent and a British accent (the latter of which, of course, there are very many). If the person had been an Afrikaans-speaker the accent might be more "noticeably" south african. I'd be surprised to be honest if there were any recces out in Asia, but will be very interested indeed to hear if you do find out anything like that! We sent soldiers to WW1 and WW2 of course, but I'm not aware (which is not to say it didn't happen) of anyone going to Asia. By the time of Vietnam, the then-government in SA was busy fighting its own wars and probably was not going to spare its most elite units to help other people fight different wars (even if they all claimed to have the same aim)... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Border_War As an aside, it's common cause that SA did have US/possibly CIA help back then. Remember Africa was also seen as a proxy Cold War battleground. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  3. Not sure why you are so smug about this one in particular, seeing as they think Duane is a wrong suspect too. Try go back and read your post objectively - pretty nasty, you seem to be enjoying the thought of someone else potentially being embarrassed with numerous laughs and smiles. Not exactly sweet little old lady stuff, more like vindictive little old lady stuff. Didn't I call it a ROAST! Have you ever been to a ROAST! It is all done in jest and in fun. These are done when the person has usually made some kind of major contribution to his cause or profession. I have had worst things said about me and not in jest or in a Roast. Dont you have to have the PERMISSION of the person in order to conduct a ROAST? What is a unilateral ROAST? Sure, like Ckret got "roasted" too I bet. Bet he thought that was really funny too. Just like the rest of us. Only one person on this forum is glad he's gone. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

  5. It's bad taste to call a crook a crook, and to call him unsuccessful when he keeps getting caught? There's a difference between a "crook" and a "con man"? I'm confused. I find no logic in these arguments at all. ...and yet you seem almost proud at the description of him as "smooth talking" .... and you have often described yourself as naive, so - again, logically - why is it difficult to believe you could have been taken in by the charm of a smooth talker? 6. Just how solid is your source Robert? I've heard rumors that Tina turned out just fine. You make her sound disabled. Are you sure that is accurate information? 377 There was a guy who posted here for a while - I cna't remember his "name" but I think he was the one who passed away - possibly either dbcoopercatcher or his partner. I seem to recall he got extremely agitated at one point about the effect that Cooper had had on the stews - talking about nightmares and other pysch problems (in fact, from his reaction I thought he might be a family member but it appears he wasn't.) So this isn't a first, and from what the guy had written (not sure if I have the energy to search) it sounded very much like he knew what he was talking about. Pity he like others got hounded out of here by A Certain Someone; because there certainly are enough other suspects at least as viable as someone who listed his occupation as "crook" and (rather hopefully?) stayed at "Treasure Island". 7. The faith is touching. How does this square with Christiansen then, him being a NWA employee? Edited to be pedantic: it's "vitae" Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  8. Of course one also needs to look at things in context. A lot of people worked for Boeing. Not necessarily very unusual that someone had met an employee, particularly around the WA area... On a related subject, you want a grudge? And the timing fits: More specifically ref timing (this extract refers to numbers in Seattle specifically): That last date is very interesting timing in light of the hijacking don't you think...? 9. Doesn't necessarily mean anything - I have two co-authored books (by Reinhart & Rogoff, signed by Rogoff; and Akerlof & Shiller, signed by Akerlof). Each of them only has one signature simply because only one of each pair of authors was around the day I had them signed. Perhaps the guy who originally had the book was in a similar situation? 10. The story about tumbling at 10,000 feet seems odd. If you can stay stable at 20,000 ft it shouldn't be a problem at 10,000 ft. Possibly hypoxic and only realised at 10K that she was tumbling? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  11. Newsflash: wanting to write books to make money isn't illegal! Hey, it isn't even unethical! (most of the time anyway - unauthorised tabloid type biographies possible exceptions) Jo seems to have a "thing" about authors. There was a stage when she would accuse every new poster who didn't buy her story of being an author ... as though it was some kind of dirty label. All rather confusing. Robert, I really don't think you need to waste your energy trying to deflect "accusations". Especially as Jo will never accept that anyone wants to find out "who Cooper really was" unless they think it was Duane. (Of course, if it could be proven conclusively that someone was Cooper, that would be the best way to actually make money out of a book ) Now talking of books and suspects... aren't we something like a year past the original expected date for Galen Cook's book? 12. cellphone already debunked My candidate for joke: A cop on night patrol stops a guy driving a bit suspiciously. "Where are you going?" he asks. The guy replies "To a lecture about the perils of living loosely and abusing drugs and alcohol". "Impressive," says the cop, "but who's giving a lecture on that at midnight?" "My wife." 13. Sorry...that was mucho el stupido of me. Hmm. Maybe you're actually just too ...nice for this forum?! Good taste in music btw
  14. Mr. Blevins: Have you spoke with the FBI agents? Do not accuse me of making a FALSE statement unless YOU can PROVE it! Um, Jo, that's a very ironic sentence coming from you. Anyway the point of this post was that when Carr was still posting here (and I know I am not the only one who really wishes he still was), he said that they would not even test KC's DNA because DNA tests are expensive/take time/better spent on current cases and they had already dismissed him based on physical characteristics - if i recall correctly this was after they either received or were offered the DNA sample. (I can go back and search for that post if I really have to.) Can anyone CONFIRM for sure that they changed their mind and actually did test the DNA? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  15. I tried!!! Not as eloquent as you perhaps
  16. Hmm. beginning to wonder if you are a posterchild for 'misleading names'. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  17. And yet, there were also plenty smart people who figured out he couldn't possibly be doing what he said he was. I can't remember all the details now, but I believe he was put forward as suspect a good few years before it all blew up. I've also seen at least one piece of research which was done before he was found out, in 2006, which essentially proved he couldn't possibly be doing what he said he was ...and indeed the closest they could come to replicating his returns was basing the model on another, known pyramid scheme... if anyone is interested, the details are here http://www.markovprocesses.com/download/mpi_Madoff_Fraud_Analysis_2008Q4.pdf. Indeed, they note When you talk about Madoff's tools, one of them is the lack of proper due diligence by investors. It's the same thing that led so many pension funds etc to invest in subprime MBS and CDOs. ...sorry all off topic i guess... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  18. No vested interests in any particular theory, but this was certainly not the impression I got about Blevins. Could he have conducted himself better? Sure. That's probably true of any poster on this thread. But he's certainly been more emphatic that it was a theory than trying to convince everyone blindly his theory is the only correct one... unlike some other posters we have had. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  19. Um, actually, this is an internet forum so it is not at all necessary to reveal actual names and identities. And I'm not at all sure this would count as "polite company" Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  20. Hm, and you didn't even mention Bananarama's two collaborations with the Fun Boy Three ... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  21. This is a perfectly valid point. Blevin's hypothesis - that it was meant to be found earlier - is also a reasonable one (in my opinion). Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  22. you make it sound like he had a choice in the matter and yes i know this is off track ... (although it is not the first time we have discussed the economic background) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  23. Now you see, I have to be pedantic about this
  24. Reason I ask is, 71 was just heading into big inflation and that had a massive impact on stock market returns. Depending on exactly when you pick your dates, the Dow went up about tenfold between late 1971 and the end of the 1990s, then a bit more up/sideways since. Turning 200K into 800K or so worth of assets would not have been hugely difficult, in fact it wouldn't have been a great performance at all compared to the market, and that's even before you take dividends into account. (Quite how all this would have escaped the IRS etc is another story.) Edit: see chart at link (log scale for obvious reasons). http://stockcharts.com/charts/historical/djia1900.html Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  25. being lazy, please remind me when he died? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
