Question: what do you suppose the chances are of an air traffic controller in SE Asia knowing about the drop tests? ... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

From the INFO Tab... Contact Info .Email:larrycarr@fbi.gov... From what I can gather, Carr set the page up initially, as part of his trying to gather info when he was looking at it. He doesn't seem to have done anything on it for ages though. So far the theory is no more outlandish than some of the stuff we get subjected to here. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Well, ignoring the Knoss rants ..interesting we get a photo of a tie clip

Which indicates it was highly likely the proceeds of crime, which given what we know about Duane is hardly surprising. However, it indicates nothing at all about the hijack. And Blevins has a good point. Can you prove, Jo, when those cars and trailer etc were bought? All after Thanksgiving 1971? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

I would just like to point out the obvious: the fact that we still debate the flight path now, means it must be blindingly obvious that Cooper could not have relied in advance on one. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

No. The original statement assumes a "normal" flight is taking the same route, with the same wind and ATC vectors as the highjacked aircraft. That it's also flying at the same airspeed. A normal flight gets shoved around a bit (vectored) by air traffic control to keep it out of the path of other airplanes. That means that just in the departure from the airport an extra minute or two might be added to the flight and a passenger would have no way of knowing. Contrast that with the highjacked flight where although ATC would have given it carte blanche in terms of route, there's know way DB Cooper could possibly know if the route wasn't being slightly fudged or being flown as directly as possible. Wind plays a significant part in how far an airplane travels over the ground at a certain airspeed. For instance, add in a 30 knot head wind and over the course of two minutes of flight time you've lost a mile compared to no wind and two miles compared to a 30 knot tail wind. Airplanes on "normal" flights aren't restricted in how fast they're supposed to fly by a highjacker that has demanded the aircraft fly at a certain altitude and airspeed. No. Simply flying on a "normal" flight along that same route would have been a pretty horrible way to estimate where the highjacked flight was. Especially when you consider DB Cooper had no real way of knowing precisely what course the airplane was on or what the wind speeds aloft were. Might a person with no flight or jumping experience try to do that to "plan" the highjack? Maybe. But he'd almost certainly be woefully wrong in his estimation. Almost certainly well outside any vague area associated with his intended landing zone. Certainly not accurate enough to land near a waiting vehicle to pick him up. That's simply a ludicrous concept using this "theory." No experienced person would ever plan their jump that way with any expectation of landing on target. All that, plus the altitude difference vs a normal flight. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

The bombing aspect aside, I know Kaczynski was not exactly "mainstream" but I also guess he wasn't the only person out there who wanted to become a recluse in a remote cabin. (particularly in that era?) The wiki article also mentions he needed a way to fund his lifestyle till he became self-sustainable (apparently relying on family handouts for a while) Again not saying he was Cooper, but ... say a similar guy. Smart, knows stuff, can plan something like this. Wants to fund the lifestyle and just needs one big sum to get him started. Loses some dollars in the jump, goes in. No-one misses him because he was a recluse anyway .... (doesn't explain why an airplane hijacking of course... but might explain why cooper was not missed and most of the money not found and there maybe is a body somewhere at the bottom of the columbia) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Actually, this is where the Unabomber case has an interesting relevance (maybe). The FBI started out with the right direction in the profile, refined it to a near perfect match.... and then changed their minds. We know more than one Cooper profile has been suggested... Don't underestimate profiling. I saw a documentary on this serial killer recently - they called in a profiler, who gave an extremely accurate fit, and apparently it was the first case where a criminal profile was used to get a search warrant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Hansen Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Apparently not for lack of trying though: And there are a number of aspects in one simple sentence here that dovetail nicely with what we know about Cooper!! note the: 1971 remote cabin Montana survival skills (I daresay if these applied to certain other candidates they would be offered as proof! And no I am not arguing for him. Seems to have been a very bright guy though...) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

And you can say this until you're blue in the face, and it won't sink in. There are so many holes in the "night clerk" story, but he says what she wants to hear, so she believes him. As she said herself - all she has is emotions and personal involvement. Just like Sluggo, bless his heart, tries and tries and still gets nowhere with trying to make her see where she is going wrong. And now the Orange1 sceptism: instead of the imminent revelation we were promised, we apparently will see the FBI "destroy" the proof. (Which wasn't supposed to reside with them in the first instance.) Very convenient isn't it? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Well in that case Sluggo - GO JUMP!!! Post pics/video when you're done

I have been to Seattle, years ago, and loved it but other than the Puget Sound national park (is that the right name?) and ...um... Sea-Tac airport, haven't been anywhere else in the area. Ah, wish I had the time to go everywhere I wanted to!!! Oh btw I was in Seattle for 3-4 days and for almost all of it there was no rain!! I was told this was very unusual. Amazon, I would love to. But do you have any idea how FAR Seattle is from where I am - it is probably literally close to halfway round the world ie the furthest trip I could make Edited for clarification: The circumference of the Earth in kilometers is 40075 km, and the circumference of the Earth in miles is 24901. Distance from Cape Town to Seattle: Distance is 16424 kilometers or 10206 miles OK so not quite halfway but still... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Re the 3 points: 1. Confuses me too. It seems odd that there would be demand for English in such a remote and inaccessible place. English language tuition is usually required by people who either interact for business or, as many Chinese do and I am sure you know, go on to undergrad or grad school in the US. In other words, while I know there are remote places, there are also nearly half a billion internet users in China and demand for English tuition is most likely to come from them. 2. Re the same name. Wow, no there is no such thing as coincidence. It must have been all preplanned. 3. I'm not sure what your "many times" comment is really trying to say, but you really seemed to be trying to score points against Blevins and seemed inordinately pleased with the story that your 'source' fed you. (Much as you might get criticised on your thinking and arguments here, Jo, I don't think anyone has ever expressed pleasure or schadenfreude at something that may have been a negative for you.) From a tour company: So again I am very interested in this story about needing to go back to the US for "surgery". Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
[ You do forget that the NIGHT CLERK actually walked into the Portland FBI office with a written statement and that CARR did eventually call him, but never went to inteview him while he was in the states for surgery. What riled me was the fact I had given the FBI the Night Clerks Contact information after he contacted me as a result of a story in the Oregonian. They had that information for 7 yrs or more and DID not talk to him until he walked into their office. Nice try! Pick on some of the FBI's other most recent mistakes and poor judgement. Time they start redeeming rather than demeaning themselves. Sorry, let me rephrase that. A man exists who claims he was a night clerk. He is conveniently inaccessible in remote China yet somehow manages to communicate with you, and for some reason feels a need to go all the way to the US for surgery (what surgery was it, Jo?) that he for some reason cannot get in Beijing or Shanghai? If he's lived in remote China for so long language surely isn't a barrier to that. And what, I'm meant to get upset that Carr was too busy chasing bank robbers - you know, actual criminals here and now that might hurt people - than run after some guy with a wild story? Or get upset that the FBI did not contact him when you claim he is so inaccessible in China?????? Some LOGIC would be nice here, Jo. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

He is in China and I talked to his ex-wife (they are good friends). She said he is well and still teaching there, but well ingrained in the China culture. He was in a remote area of China - and the internet excessibility just did not exist. How convenient. And how does she keep in touch with him? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Blevins - did you not post this? In another post you even told us what hat you would be wearing? So Jo why are you going on and on at Blevins about this? I mean, I realise it's a lot easier than more trying to connect non-existent dots to Duane, but still. As for your night clerk... well, Blevins may not have been at Ariel but at least we know he actually exists Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Well, from everything we know about Duane, Occam's Razor implies #3. I don't often disagree with you 377, but I do disagree with you re it being a "pity" if Cooper lost the money. It wasn't his to start off with. Should a criminal be more "entitled' to his ill-gotten proceeds because of his means of getting them? If Duane jumped out a plane with someone else's coat would that be better than just swiping it out a restaurant? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
I agree. That's why I find it odd that someone basically calls another poster an alcoholic yet gets no censure. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Ditto to what 377 said (in particular that just because no-one answers doesn't mean it is ignored), but also bear in mind: 1) like Sluggo said, this is a dysfunctional family. Posting pics etc does help to lighten the mood and bring a smile to the face. I for one don't have a problem with it 2) The Amboy chute had a lot of discussion at the time - perhaps no-one felt the need to add anything now. I realise how difficult it is for new posters to go back and read everything, so you may not have been aware of the then-current discussion on it. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Jo your lists mean nothing. Blevins's list is at least as convincing as yours (yes I know you don't accept this but you don't accept anything that doesn't back up your story. And your claims of being "nice" are very easily undermined by many of you own posts). Actually I'm somewhat confused as to why Georger got a 1-month ban and you didn't, considering some of your very off-base comments (recent and not so recent). How many years now that we have been promised 'imminent' revelations? The British have a saying - put up or shut up. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Jo re Carr People here are not as stupid or ignorant as you seem to think they are. Your protestations notwithstanding, 377 was spot on, on ALL his points. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

You left out the MLK connection, and the Freemasons. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

We've speculated before that a possible reason for the money never being found was that someone had taken it somewhere (Asia, possibly even Africa) where dollars were widely used in circulation. Many of these might never have found their way back to the US. On that subject, an interesting anecdote from a colleague just back from a visit to Zimbabwe, where the Zim dollar has been abandoned and SA rands and US dollars are the currencies most used. He said some of the dollar bills he saw were so used, so dirty, that you actually could not see at first glance what denominations they were! I still think it's entirely possible that the Cooper bills ended up like this. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
