Did you forget to quote the part talking about private citizens needing them for home defense? All I saw in the parts you quoted was providing weapons for Law Enforcement? The DHS doesn't say that at all - rushmc is being disingenuous (go figure). The author of the piece says that. The DHS is purely trying to procure a weapon for its LEO's to use. The rights and wrongs of gun control aside, I'm not sure I agree with the author about an AR being a good home defense weapon anyway - if only from a portability point of view. This. UKIP is quickly becoming the third party at the moment and Cameron's mocking comments about them will only take him so far. Never try to eat more than you can lift

Ah - but see Bill that would be no good because it would only be a COPY of the video. The original video definitely has him swearing on the Koran. Never try to eat more than you can lift

Three? Luxury! When I got into an argument at the DZ I was facing a platoon of infantry, five tanks, two helicopter gunships and had an aircraft carrier dropped on my head. And I bet they made you live in a shoebox at the bottom of a lake, and eat gravel. You got gravel to eat? Wow, we only got that if we were extra good. Tell that to kids today, and they won't believe you. Never try to eat more than you can lift

Fortunately, IRL, crackpot conspiracy theorists generally get ignored for what they are. Funny how they get more of a voice on the internet. Come on guys, stop feeding the troll. Rational discussion is wasted here. Never try to eat more than you can lift

Enough with the gun talk...lets talk about violence.

You know what they say about assumptions. Shows how little you know about me. For the record: I like guns, I'm actually a reasonable shot (used to shoot 7.62 on 500 and 600m ranges, and .22 in the winter.) I don't mind people having access to guns either. Given that the second amendment is one of the cornerstones of theUS, If people want to have them in their home, given the right precautions, background checks, etc , then I have ZERO problem with that. if I lived in the US, I would probably have one for target use and so on, just because I could! HOWEVER That doesn't mean that there shouldn't be gun CONTROL. (I spend a lot of time in the US, and a number of other countries so this does interest me.) Never try to eat more than you can lift -
I guess you are a better man than me - I can't give him credit for this. I think he has only done it because he thinks it might advantage him in some way. I couldn't see any real evidence of remorse or genuine apology from him, it all seemed far too calculated. Never try to eat more than you can lift

Its often said, but it's just about never true. Thats BS - I guess you probably havent travelled too much. People in the US, yes, even those states that are heavily in favor of guns, are just as rude and confrontational as anywhere else, and much worse than some. Never try to eat more than you can lift

Sorry - you make some good points but invalidate your argument by saying things like this. Its simply not true, these countries do not have freedom of universal gun use. "Both Israel and Switzerland put the onus on would-be gun owners to explain why they need these weapons. Israel limits gun ownership to security workers, people who transport valuables or explosives, residents of the West Bank, and hunters. People who don't fall into one of those categories cannot obtain a firearm permit. Moreover, Israel rejects 40 percent of firearm permit applicants, the highest rejection rate in the Western world. Both Switzerland and Israel require yearly (or more frequent) permit renewals to insure that the reasons are still applicable. New Jersey is one of few U.S. states that requires a reason for buying a handgun. Far from being a gun paradise, Switzerland is one of only six countries in the world that requires comprehensive details of the firearm, owner, and all firearm transfers to be reported to the federal government. It also requires two levels of firearm permits: one for acquisition and one for possession." (that was just the first of many articles when I searched israeli gun laws) This gets raised all the time and its bunkum. Please actually do some research before trotting out the hysteria from the NRA (Source : http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2012/12/18/a_league_of_our_own?page=full) Never try to eat more than you can lift -

Great. Another one that can't read. Right on! That's all that needs to be said. Never try to eat more than you can lift -
Its often said, but it's just about never true. That's a pretty absolute, unqualified sweeping statement. How do you back it up. Sources? Both statements are unqualified and sweeping, but given that the US is an armed society, people are just as rude and often ruder than where I live, which isn't. No - that is YOUR implication not hers. Sorry but any racial implication here is coming from you. 20% of the people she is talking about are white by your figures. So what? Its likely more a socioeconomic distinction than a racial one. Never try to eat more than you can lift

Which is more important -- my rights, or your safety?
Stumpy replied to wmw999's topic in Speakers Corner
I haven't seen any pathway open up. All I know is that an american, being of sound mind, has the right to own an AR15. And that right doesn't infringe on your safety. until they leave it lying around and their son/daughter/cousin/neighbour pinches it and shoots up a school or a thief breaks in and steals it Or they are cleaning it and have an ND etc. They still have the right to own it. suck it up. You want to enforce that they have mandatory safety courses along with the mandatory background checks, that's something you can do, but it is a right to own it. Just because australians decided to give up that right doesn't mean anyone else has to. And from what I've seen, a lot of australians aren;t too happy about having had to give up their arms either. The majority of Australians couldn't give a flying fuck. I was commenting on the fact that you said that "that right doesn't infringe on your safety". I gave you several examples where it did, and you changed the subject. Never try to eat more than you can lift -

How many of the recent 3 mass murders happened with a weapon that was bought around the proper channels? Your going to save lives by 1. Requiring a good background check on all purchases that include criminal and mental illness history that would preclude you from safely owning one. 2. More firearms education and awareness so people treat and use them correctly, and are not simply scared to even hear the word GUN! 3. People securing their firearms when not under their direct control to prevent thieves or mental ill from accessing them. 4. Changing the music and movie scene to stop glorifying guns. Can you even name a handful of hit movies this year that did not include a gun somewhere(not including animated films). 5. Active shooter training and response awareness for EVERYONE 6. Getting illegal guns off the street 7. Enforce the laws on the book to the full extent for people who use guns in crimes, and not let them off easy to get back in "the game". 1. Totally agree 2. Agree. 3. Agree 4. The movie scene caters to the market. When people stop going to action movies then the movie scene will stop glorifying guns. Outside of that, it becomes a first amendment problem. I would suggest the bigger problem glorifying guns is the NRA. I also dont know if I agree that it would make a difference to change movies/computer games - is there anything proven that says that this causes these problems? (genuine question) 5. Its a good idea I suppose. Treat it like natural disaster training, earthquake and the like. Key is it needs to be short, and very simple. 6.Yes 7. Absolutely. Never try to eat more than you can lift

Fact or racist, can it be both? I don't see any references to colour in there. She is making some causation/correlation logical jumps - but its you who brought colour into it? The same correlations are likely in predominantly white neighbourhoods of a certain demographic. Never try to eat more than you can lift

I think you should have to pass a test and have a license in order to be able to own one, and then it should have to be registered. Oh wait..... There's no problem with that when every one over 16 with acceptable vision can take the simple test, the license has a negligible cost, they can own any vehicle they can afford, and the license + registration are only required to use the vehicles in public in populated areas (off-highway vehicles like race cars and dune buggies are exempt from both requirements). So you have no issue with mandatory registration for any gun you will have in a public place, and having to sit a test to allow that? Awesome. Many posters here would turn blue and their heads would explode if that was proposed. Never try to eat more than you can lift
