  1. Actually, Tamerlan ran out of ammo and got gang tackled by police who had gotten handcuffs on him while holding him down on the street when the younger brother hit the gas and headed straight for them. The officers dived out of the way and Tamerlan got run over, not only that, but also dragged for a block. That was the second story to be told. The other one was the first version. The two versions are widely divergent. The second one allows the govt to charge T-2 with T-1's murder. Just sayin'. You got a point. I'd like to see what the younger brother says about it, but I'm not going to hold my breath over it. Given that he just about shot his tongue off, something like "mm mmmm mm mmmm mmm mmm mmmm mmmm" I would guess. Never try to eat more than you can lift
  2. Of course if it had been published in the SUN then ... Sun is just as bad as the Mirror, but the Star takes it to a whole new level. Never try to eat more than you can lift
  3. Good in this case. Although the advocates of CISPA are doing their best to make a mess of the 4th. Never try to eat more than you can lift
  4. There is even less merit in the anecdotal viewpoint of one person moving in relatively tiny circles. The polls say most PEOPLE are in favor of more gun control, but not reduced rights. You can do both. Everyone gets a vote, not just the gun owners. You move in circles of people who likely think similarly to you (as do we all) which makes your "evidence" as close to irrelevant as it gets. Actually I don't. you can believe what you like, however saying that very few people are for gun control is pitifully and demonstrably wrong. Of course you do, you probably helped to pay the bribes. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/apr/18/pro-gun-groups-donated-senators Never try to eat more than you can lift
  5. So you would rather believe your own anecdotal evidence than numerous polls from both side of the fence that disagree with you. Got it. Logical reasoning clearly not your strong point. Never try to eat more than you can lift

  8. you know what - actually I'm not entirely sure! I think it had a couple of prior readings that got voted down because they wanted some amendments, like not forcing religious ministers to perform same sex marriages if it was against their beliefs, things like that. 11. Yes and no. I don't believe Austerity is necessarily the answer, however Europe and Australia are two economies with entirely different constraints and pressures. Its disingenuous to compare them directly. Never try to eat more than you can lift

  14. A universal background check does not stop you buying the gun. It just ensures that said citizen IS law abiding. So you should have no problem with it. Come on folks, its really not that hard. Never try to eat more than you can lift
  15. Well, considering that Cho, Loughner and Holmes all went through the background check, and Lanza's mom did too, I find it hard to believe that any law requiring background checks on any private sales would have made any difference. I understand some objections to registration - it creates a database for potential confiscation, and it potentially criminalizes law-abiding citizens. But realize that your argument still uses flawed logic. You only cited the examples where it didn't work, which (obviously) made the news. There are many people denied gun purchases because the background checks were done and worked; those generally don't make the news. IOW, if I were a debate coach, I'd urge you to ditch this argument, because it's pretty vulnerable. Yet again, Andy hits the nail on the head. The fact that some people find this hard to understand amazes me. Never try to eat more than you can lift
  16. Universal background checks would make it harder for those people to obtain weapons. Glad you understand. Never try to eat more than you can lift

  21. I actually think the idea of the queen getting paid is quite an odd one, I have never seen her down the shops in Windsor. As the article says, this is money that is used for her to "carry out her duties." This covers a multitude of things including official engagements, etc. I suspect she brings an awful lot more tourism money and more to the UK economy than she spends. Also, she needs jump money after the olympics. Besides - its all about tradition and culture which you wouldn't understand because there isn't any in the US. Never try to eat more than you can lift
  22. OH YES you can. I have read a LOT of Koontz, he's my "go to" author when i want to read something predictable and formulaic. Currently reading the ODD series, Some classic SciFi, try Ursula LeGuin, "The Word for World is Forrest" Also anything by Greg Bear, or William Gibson It boggles my mind there is *still* no "Neuromancer" movie. Just finished Neuromancer - had some parallels in the Matrix, but not too close. Was good though, interesting writing style, good story - Not one of my favourites so far but well worth the read!
