Mercury Rising: Photos of the new Tony Suit
unclecharlie95 replied to The111's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Let us imagine the primary zipper jams 1/3rd the way up your arm, then imagine trying to find the slider of the 2nd zipper which is now on top of the open sleeve in a hurry. You cannot memorize the position of the 2nd zipper. In this situation the 2nd zip will also not slide that well as the sleeve is partially open and it will follow a curved path. Both times that my zips jammed it happened just below the elbow. (long sleeve t-shirt) IMO a zip is not an adequate substitute to a "quick release" / wing cut away. I have also used my cut aways many times on "short" canopy rides. BASEstore.it -
WestCoast Wingsuits Weekend Oct 12th-14th 2007
unclecharlie95 replied to bodypilot1's topic in Wing Suit Flying
On my way back east I had a great time at Lodi. Thank you to Ed & Michelle, Lodi DZ and all the participants; Reg, Tony, Scott, Wes, Sean, Ira, Chris, Xavier, Rob, Pete, Dave, Dingo, Timmy, Avery and anyone else whose name i have forgotten. We made 11 flocks during Sat/ Sun, the largest being a 16 way. The skill level was good and the west coast proved they flock hard with nice forward speed and fall rates in the 60s (and even the 50s). Some people had to leave early on Sunday so we took the chance to do some smaller multi point flocks. If you get the chance to attend a Westcoast Wingsuit Weekend - do it. You won't be disappointed, good people, good dz, good flocks and good wine -
It was the first version of the Shadow, which we based on the Acro platform. Espen has already posted about the 2nd version. BASEstore.it

Mercury Rising: Photos of the new Tony Suit
unclecharlie95 replied to The111's topic in Wing Suit Flying
The photos i saw showed Patricks system as using closing cloops passing inside the body through grommets (similar to the current S-Fly design but not on the sleeve). An earlier version also used a 3 ring system at the base of the arm wing, which on one occasion jammed and made a nasty situation for Patricks wing /cameraman. Do you have the photos you are refering too? The tab/ cable (or piano key) design is essentially a door hinge so not a revolution but a new application. J BASEstore.it -

This is why that Croatian guy came up with the cable / tab design and has used it on all his designs (apart from the Prodigy). The cable / tab design has some obvious drawbacks: - time consuming and more expensive to produce - takes longer to attach But in a situation when you need your arms free in a hurry it is worth the effort. There must be other solutions that can also provide a fast reliable cut away system. J BASEstore.it -

First off: GRAZIE Marco, Claudio, Francesca, Chiller and everyone at Skydive Tortuga for organizing the wingsuit event! Marco and the team put in a huge amount of preparation and worked tirelessly through the event to make it a success. The competition was divided in to 3 events; distance, time and speed, measured using GPS and Paralog software. There were some problems with the GPS data during the event, leading to the distance segment of the competition being decided by "head to head" races, with ground judging. Congratulations to the winners: Italian National Competition: 1st: Giovanni (V2) 2nd: David (S-Fly) 3rd: Roberto (V1) International Competition: 1st: Robert (V2) 2nd: Tristan (SM1) 3rd: James (Phantom) The International competition was a tight run race with Tristan and Robert posting very similar scores for the time and speed events. The final ranking being decided by the "head to head" race. I don't have the exact numbers for the Time and Speed events but I'm sure Marco will post the complete results once he has chance to sleep and recover from a loooong weekend! After the awards ceremony we had a Formula One style champagne celebration

yup, i was the freefall cameraman, the other flyers are Jean-Noel Itzstein, Yves Burry, Robert Pecnik and Alistair Marsh. The "story" is a little bit off the wall (you need to see the orginal to appreciate it) but we had a lot of fun during the filming. BASEstore.it

Robert Jones and I arrived at Summerfest, we flew in to Chicago late last night so took it easy making couple of warm up jumps today. Not so many WS around at the moment, Scott had a few guys and Jeff & Nick were also jumping with a small group. More people due for the weekend though, will post some photos as I take 'em
