  1. It is a metal rod with a mini cam on the end. The mini cam connects to the analogue input of the video camera. Quality is ok with good light conditions. BASEstore.it
  2. some people have voiced their doubts via PM... so I think it is worth the effort... BASEstore.it
  3. .. found the tape, lots of memories are flooding back... PILE ON!? BASEstore.it
  4. hmmm, it maybe time to dig out that miniDV tape I haven't watched it yet... BASEstore.it
  5. Lets do it Hopefully it will work better than our wingsuit /wingsuit rodeo attempt last year If we get good footage we won't show it to Macca. He is ignorant in such matters btw. Pimms is out, Ricard is in! BASEstore.it

  7. The roller pigeon round of the 2006 Stupino event was judged this way - simple and effective

  9. Here are a few more photos. Special mentions to: - Jack on his 300th jump - Charlie on her 500th jump - Mike on passing the PFI course Special thanks to Liz Ashley for organizing the event and also to Robin and everyone at Nethers for making me feel so welcome. Until the next time
  10. I forgot to take the Neptune out of my helmet the other week, it made lots of annoying noises during the flight but out of curiosity I downloaded the data. The Neptune seemed to log the jump ok, screen shot is attached. Obviously the freefall time is not really interesting in BASE (the days of the minute men and 2 minutes men are passed) but it is still interesting to see the fall rate changes on exit to steady flight and at deployment. Has anyone else got experience using Neptunes in BASE? I'll jump with mine again but next time I'll turn the alarms off!! J BASEstore.it
  11. Hi Scott, you raise some good questions. The Phantom, 'Phacro' and Acro are not going anywhere, don't worry (my affection for the Phantom & Acro is obvious! ) We have seen that as people get more experienced they are looking for suits that offer more performance, with more wing surface area and whilst still allowing comfortable flocking and back flying. The design sketches for the future Vampire derivatives are moving further away from this current market trend. We intend to introduce features to maximize performance that will reduce the suits low speed flying characteristics and also its suitability for back flying. This new suit is aimed to sit above the Phantom but below the Vampire series. For people focused on performance there will always be the Vampire, for experienced pilots who want an all round suit there will be the new "flocking suit". J BASEstore.it
  12. Tandem BASE jumps have been done on a few ocassions, Ted Strong at BD back in the 80s and the late Thor Alex from an E in Norway (see 1st BASE) and probably others. But from the walls of the cheesy valley, with a newbie, I doubt it! They do fly skydive and paraglider tandems into the valley though.. BASEstore.it
  13. I think it is important to make a distinction between "learning to fly a wingsuit" and "wingsuit progression". I doubt anyone would argue that being dropped 3 miles from the DZ and told to fly back on their first ws jump is a good idea Boris is talking about progression after you have learnt your wingsuit survival skills. I agree with Boris' ideas for progression and regret I wasn't more informed when I started jumping WS. When I started there were rarely other people around to jump with and I made about 150 'fun' solos in my first 200 ws jumps. It wasn't until I started ws BASE that I realised that I still didn't know how to fly my wingsuit! (as early video of my jumps shows) I could do a 2m+ freefall with a classic but I was barely flying a 1:1 glide ratio. I'm not saying you need to do ws BASE to learn to fly for distance, following Boris' description is better (and much safer!) BASEstore.it
  14. Balance of wing area around centre of mass, wing shape & profile and a few other things.. In a word, yes, you can't have a suit that does everything. That said this new suit still flies well. The Vampire is still the weapon of choice for speed & distance. Yes* (As long as things go smoothly putting the suit into production). J BASEstore.it

  16. Well the suit still hasn't been named so maybe we can get a CB or Peanuts reference in there
  17. Come to Z-Flock to see the suit in the flesh and maybe take it for a test flight! (there will be working prototype in L and XL available by then) The suit is aimed at pilots who want a high performance suit for flocking, back flying and all round fun flying. The suit has been designed to have good slow speed characteristics, by that we mean a low fall rate even with low horizontal speed. But still to have lots of range at the high end as well for when you want to fly fast and flat. Air locked back vents ensure excellent back flying performance and an eye catching color panel design will mean even Purple Mike will be left out of frame ;) The suit is in the final stages of testing and should go into pre-production (scaling and template fabrication) shortly after Z3. I could post a small photo... (bring on the 'pop' jokes! ) BASEstore.it
  18. Every seam on a PF suit is double stitched for strength and durability. Older BM suits use some double stitching but also lots of single stitching (e.g. on wing ribs etc). I didn't look at the Blade that closely in the UK so maybe this has changed now? BASEstore.it
  19. My original post was made with three intentions: 1. To try and understand "pop up" in terms of what is happening to the suit aerodynamics, rather than describing a simple movement in the vertical axis. 2. To generate discussion about the language we use to describe and compare wingsuit flight performance. 3. It also seemed like a suitable thread discuss how we are using about 50% of our available performance whilst flocking. I am not saying we should rename flocking to stall flying, nor I am saying that flocking is subordinate to any other discipline or type of flying. If you think that you are WAY off track. Flocking is fun and flocking is demanding! (flying within 1m of your slot for the whole dive is hard work!!) I have spent a great deal of time flocking during recent years (my second WS jump was a 5way ). Flocking can also get better and that is what we all want
  20. Not that much but it will be included in a short video that should be online tomorrow. Will post the link when it is ready.. BASEstore.it
  21. Self made by a rigger, contact Jurgen of the bbc http://www.berlin-base.com/ for more details. BASEstore.it
  22. Agreed, you can get a 39 mph average out of a Phantom. BASEstore.it
