  1. i disagree with the premise of your post for two reasons. 1. if war breaks out and you try to join to fight in it, you'll be too late(generally). two instances, desert storm and enduring freedom. 2. my opinion is that everyone should serve in the military to gain discipline, and gain understanding of the way to function in society. the new generation of american youth have no clue how to behave, and grew up with no sense of discipline. of course, there are exceptions and compulsory service is not for everyone, however, it is generally a good idea. as for the whining about going to war when you're in the military: get over it, you're soldiers. deal with it, just like i did(twice) along with every veteran who came before and after me. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  2. my experiences with christians are similar to yours. i am not an athiest, but a pagan, and i think(i may be wrong) that people like me are treated a little worse than athiests. kinda like the fact that i am extremely spiritual, and they find that offending to their beliefs, whereas athiests are not as much of a threat to their beliefs. i did have an interesting discussionwith a couple of jehovahs witnesses about string theory and how i can use scienc to tie in all the theories i have about nature based religions to actual observations that can be witnessed by all. i had jsut gotten high(i have since quit smoking) and we talked for over an hour. the one girl got really antsy, but the other was very open minded and knowlegable. if we had talked much longer, i would have converted her. i thought that was very funny. and enlightening to me as well, i worked out some things for myself. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  3. Two men were sitting next to each other at a bar. After a while, one guy looks at the other and says, "I can't help but think, from listening to you, that you're from Ireland." The other guys responds proudly, "Yes, that I am." The first guy says, "So am I. And where about from Ireland might you be?" The other guy answers, "I'm from Dublin, I am." The first guy responds, "Sure and begora, and so am I. And what street did you live on in Dublin?" The other guys says, " A lovely little area it was, I lived on McCleary Street in the old central part of town." The first guy says, "Faith and it's a small world, so did I! And to what school would you have been going?" The other guy answers, "Well now, I went to St. Mary's of course." The first guy gets really excited and say! s, :And so did I. Tell me, what year did you graduate?" The other guy answers, "Well now, let's see, I graduated in 1964." The first guy exclaims, "The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us! I can hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the same bar tonight. Can you believe it, I graduated from St. Mary's in 1964 too." About this time a woman walks in to the bar, sits down and orders a drink. The bartender walks over to her shaking his head and muttering, "It's going to be a long night tonight." The woman asks, "Why do you say that?" The bartender replies, "The Murphy twins are drunk again." i liked this one...hope you enjoy _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  4. i recall very clearly that day...i was heading to our ng state hq and as i got to the front door, a colonel i knew asked me if my bags were packed. me, having listened to a cd the whole trip and being a good sf soldier, replied "i'm always ready to go, sir". i glanced at the tv in the lobby, and my heart went up to my throat. i spent about ten minutes in there, forgot what i was doing in the first place and returned to my unit, an hour's drive away. when i got there, they had the arms room open passing out weapons and ammo(we're not allowed to store ammo there, but we were sf, we did what we wanted). we had 2 snipers on the roof, and if i remember correctly, put security at the civilian airport a couple of hundred yards away. all of this was very surreal, as if it weren't happening. i got choked up recalling it all. in about three hours, we had about 50% of the unit call in to ask if they needed to report for duty. the next day we called the rest to do an alert roster check. that's the only time in history a guard unit got a 100% notification on the phone. i don't recall seeing jumpers, but heard about it. last week, i saw a documentary called "loose change" 2d edition. everyone should see it. about 3 weeks after the attacks, i had formed my own opinions thinking that the govt knew about it, even thought they staged it. now i'm convinced. it's available on infowars.com if anyone's interested. i'm not going to push the idea or argue the facts, people label you a conspiracy theorist and call you a nut, etc. but it's not the first ime the govt has done some stupid shit to get what they want, which is an erosion of civil liberties and one step closer to total control. in the words of a great american, earl pitts, "wake up, america" _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  5. if yo assume the equation that i like to use: power=control=money, for govt then i agree with your statement. if you asked a cop weather he would rather raid a home with a bunch of potheads high, or drunks, he'll always choose the potheads. this country is going way too far with it's suppression of our rights and it's time we did something about it. i have a 2 point plan to take care of the whole problem, but since it is a little radical, will only pm it to anyone who asks. an interesting tidbit: it does not involve a revolution. although that would probably be a little easier to get started. remember washington, jefferson, and the rest were considered criminals and outlaws until they won. we need to remember what it was they were rebelling from and return to the spirit of their will for the nation. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  6. point is we didn't have to bet our lives on it. since when is our duty to protect isreal? if corporations weren't running this country, we'd be free from oil now and laughing at the fact that the mid east had all this oil and coudn't sell it, so their economies would collapse and they'd be threats to noone. the main 2 reasons for this war (actually 1) is w's daddy was embarrassed by saddamin desert storm, and then he was no longer controllable by us and the cia. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  7. gawain, you'll be ok. i never met ya, but if you're in the 101st, you're a fighter for sure. speedy recovery to ya. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  8. it's all about rights here. people are allowed to smoke cigarrettes, drink alcohol, and have sex. it's a fact. also a fact is that all three can kill you, especially the first two. also a fact is that all three can also kill other people. i believe rights should not be abridged for people equally, as long as they harm nobody else while exercising these rights. my line of thinking says it's ok to smoke pot, or any ofthe other things i mentioned until you hurt someone else. dui and you kill someone? perp gets shot behind the car at the scene, no need for a jury, the cop just pulled the guy from the car. a couple of reports like that and you will see far less news of innocent people getting killed by idiots who can't control themselves. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  9. not kidding at all. i have been thinking that pretty much since the week after it happened, it took that long for the shock to wear off. i have recently seen a movie which spells it out with documents, newscasts live from that day, interviews, scientific facts, and no opinions. it is called loose change, 2d edition. kinda like a documentary, like i said it has no opinions, and makes no acusations, just presents facts. while i understand that anyone can put together so-called facts to refute just about any claim, i saw the movie and it hit very close to home. some of the so-called facts i have seen with my own eyes and some of the things presented in this movie i had suspected on my own. the thing that i hate about trying to talk about this is that people just blindly accept the the "truth" that the govt tells them they don't think that our govt is capable of these things, but they have a very short memory and no access to any highly classified information. if people knew what kind of plans were proposed and even put into action, they would be scared shitless. hollywood has nothing on real life in this case. the only classified info i had access to was during oef in '01-02, was labled secret, and probably has no value anymore, however i still refuse to disclose any of it, due to my honor and integrity. besides, it's illegal until it's declassified, and since i am no longer in the military i have no way of knowing. edited to add: i was thinking about my post and realized it sounded a little misleading. i need to go on the record to say that none of the aforementioned documents that i personally saw wich were secret in no way had anything to do with the sept. 11th tragedy. the documents i was privy to were oporders, plans, and contingincies referring to the oef campaign. i merely mentioned them here because the details of an sf operation can get pretty scary, if you're on the receiving end. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  10. that's because the govt engineered these attacks in order to start a war and make a lot of changes that are only possible in wartime. that being acheived, there is no longer any point of future "terrorist" attacks. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  11. i was really close to ghandi and the dahli lama(sp). actually economic l/r: -6.75 social l/a: -4.05 you wouldn't think i made a good soldier, but in an sf unit, they like you to think outside the box. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  12. man, when the bush people scan the title of this thread, they're gonna send in a couple of a-teams to get you for the wmd's you're hiding. if i were you, i'd quit my job, leave the family and run to some foreign shore where they hate americans. shouldn't be too hard to choose one, and considering what i learned today, i don't blame them. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  13. i totally misinterpreted your meaning. upon reflection, i suppoe that the policies to which you're referring are due to the fact that gays don't have the option of a legal marriage or civil union. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  14. i am a member of the carpenters union in wv and we get a pay raise every year. this year it was $0.75 an hour. then they told us that the health insurance went up $0.72. we pay $675 a month for health insurance without dental or eye care. the only way to fix the present system is to set a limit on what doctors can charge, or hospitals. we had an issue recently that some doctors were pissed about not getting their on call pay. 7 of them went on strike because they didn't get their $3000 per shift for just being on call for a shift. it's bullshit like this that push up the cost of medical attention in this country. if doctors say they need it to pay malpractice insurance, you can safely call bullshit. if it's to pay for the medical degree, then they should fix the cost of the colleges, upwards of $100,000 for a degree is totally ridiculous. i say that it's time to fix this crap, socialize health care, subsidize insurance instead of big industry who only need it to make more money, something. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  15. i am strongly opposed to any type of discrimination against anyone in this country(actually anywhere), so i say gay marriage should be a no brainer. i have several gay friends, and they should be allowed all the same advantages as straight married people. period. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  16. can ya actually say you're a jew if you weren't raised as one? granted, i don't know you, but it kinda sounds like you weren't versed in the religion, just born of jewish parents. does it work that way? of course, religion is all about belief anyway, so don't let me bust your bubble. if you wanna be a jew, go for it, i say. good for you. one more thing: is calling someone a jew an insult? i don't want to insult you, so if it is, please don't take it as one, just an ignorant comment. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  17. i have been reading this and would like to say that the voice on the tape is probably a terp talking to the crowd. as far as the greater talk of the invasion not being justified, it wasn't. not even in 91 when i went there the first time. if we want to stick our noses into anyone's business, then we should start looking into africa for some serious civil rights violations and atrocities being committed. hussein looks like an angel compared to the actions of some of these guys. where is the real agenda here? it lies in the fact that hussein was once a us puppet that got out of control and had to be taught a lesson. and this isn't the first time it has happened. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  18. i'm a pagan and i stick my finger in my mouth anytime it bleeds, i'm a carpenter, so it happens frequently. sometimes i use it to energize the runes that i keep on all my tools as identifying marks. i suppose that actually either definition might fit if you stretch it.... _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  19. tell her form me, a veteran of two wars, that she has my gratitude for respecting the flag, and properly observing flag ettiquitte. i see a lot of people flying flags that need to be retired(faded, in several peices, etc), and flying at night unlighted(there are only three places that this is permitted). for an 11 yo girl to know how to properly treat the flag restores a little faith in the country. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  20. where is the first post on this? i found this one and found it all too applicable in the world we live in. it looks like the same picture cropped two times. like they could be walking next to each other. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  21. the really tragic part of this whole mess is the fact that bush(i'm not bashing him, just stating an opinion) pushed the country into a war with no clear exit strategy, even 2.5 years after starting it. there were scenarios for all types of different tracks that a war can take, including nuclear strikes. the whole thing was, and continues to be, a disgrace to our country. if there were ties to the attacks on our country(i refuse to use the 911 terminology in reference to a fact of life in the rest of the world), then so be it. but as one reply to this thread mentions, the government is simply too practiced in the art of weaving tales that fit the circumstances and i, for one, will not beleive any figment of anyone's imagination spewing forth from the mouths of any politician. i place all of the so-called facts on the level with facts issued from anyone in the media: sometimes entertaining, sometimes scary, maybe containing a stray fact or two, but generally indistinguishable from drivel. believe what you want, but regardless of what the current administration says, we are not the world's police. who cares if iran has nuclear power? it's time to put our help where it's needed: but wait, there is no oil in central africa, no use for us to stop the genocide. there just ain't enough payback. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  22. so what if the bartender sells drinks to a guy who's drunk? it is clearly not nis responsibility to to find the guy a ride...this is just one more example of the real problem in this country, nobody needs to be held accountable for their own actions. blame someone else, then sue them....it's not your fault you got blitzed then went out for a pack of smokes, the bartender should have known you were gonna kill someone, the gas station attendant should have known you were the driver, not his drunk friend paying for the gas, it's ok, not your fault.....sorry, this just really pisses me off. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  23. my wife will be on 911 with the boy in the bedroom, while i'm out hunting in the house with a 9mm and a shotgun....bring it on, i haven't locked my door in 3 years.....the dog'll let me know when to get up...... _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  24. looks like they're going to get a bunch of people beating up homeless people again.... WASHINGTON - Asking for increased vigilance in the wake of the London bombings, the government is warning that terrorists may pose as vagrants to conduct surveillance of buildings and mass transit stations to plot future attacks. "In light of the recent bombings in London, it is crucial that police, fire and emergency medical personnel take notice of their surroundings, and be aware of 'vagrants' who seem out of place or unfamiliar," said the message, distributed via e-mail to some federal employees in Washington by the U.S. Attorney's office. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050822/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/terror_threat_homeless _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  25. i went thru benning in '00. we were in the last class to use bdu's for pt, now they wear the pt uniform. and no more woodchips, it's all pea gravels. but man they dropped me from the slt maybe 100 times, i couldn't keep my feet and knees together. i was bleeding from the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, chin and neck when i got done. my first jump, i was in the door checking out the scenery, thinking "this is low!" and when i went out, i started looking around and hit the ground before i got a slip. i was used to a good canopy ride! a blackhat came up to me and told me he knew i was a skydiver, said that if he saw me crossing my feet again, he'd send me home. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
